Rated 4 out of 5 stars

The components are good quality, the art is excellent and much like Free League's Year Zero engine, the system is simple but smooth with great scope for more complexity as the RPG grows. Within context of what a Starter Set adventure should set out to do, I'd say this is the best Starter Set adventure I've experienced to date - pacey, a nice balance between narrative / roleplay / exploration and combat opportunities. The one drawback is the system needs A LOT of 6 sided dice to facilitate smooth play, and this set doesn't remotely pack enough of them inside the box - understandable but an extra cost to consider if you're not a dice goblin. It's also nowhere near as brutal as call of Cthulhu or the Arkham Horror board / Card Games - Character death is a rare occurrence, so this isn't for GM's and Players looking for that 'purist' Cthulhu RP experience. But if you're looking for something super pulpy or maybe even a good gateway for new players coming from boardgames and D&D, this is a very strong start for the Arkham RPG.
