Bareboat Charter with Dream Yacht Charter - Antigua

We have been on flotilla and charter holidays for over 20 years. 2 monohulls were chartered with Dream Yacht Charter through GlobeSailor. Neither boat was prepared/cleaned nor fit for purpose: in fact, both were potentially dangerous. One was replaced on day 3 but the replacement boat also had a number of issues.
A claim was made, via GlobeSailor, to DYC who apologised but were only prepared to offer a small time-limited voucher against a future booking. As we had lost total confidence in them, any such voucher was of no value to us as it would remain unused.
Following a prolonged negotiation, a 10% refund on the basic price of one yacht was paid, which failed to adequately recompense us for the problems we had had on our holiday. DYC is registered in Mauritius and there was clearly no point in entering into a legal battle.
GlobeSailor were excellent at finding DYC but were not as supportive as I expected when problems arose. The contract was with DYC and I hope that, as a result of our experience, GlobeSailor will not be so keen to recommend DYC who clearly did not fulfil our expectations.

not what they sell you, stay away...

1) BOAT was at least 5-10 years old, showing signs of wear and tear everywhere rather than a recent model year 2022 or 2023 that appeared in searches on your website at the time of booking…I asked you in July of there were better models and I didn’t get any option at a comparable price; seta cushions were moldy , flattened like cardboard and dirty, outdoor fridge didn’t refrigerate, ice was always a challenge to get, leak from the cabin headboard hatch ( pic. attached) cheap & uncomfortable plastic stools for outside teak table…we were not provided with 2 sets of sheets as in description of services included in price, only one for the week…There was no BBQ on the boat -unlike almost every other catamaran around us at the marina- which led the cook to panfry (with cheap oil ) everything in the cabin, which stunk up the entire boat (esp. fish) for hours and made for really unhealthy diet the entire week…!
2) FOOD: The cook was a nice young guy but his cuisine was mediocre, unhealthy and mainly made from cheapest ingredients that he would buy likely at lowest price (potatoes , cabbage and rice all the time, no green salads or veggies, the meats were rubbery and not fresh , the only fish we ate was catch of the day by the back of the boat during sailing, the lobster that we ordered as a supplement at a VERY expensive premium (35 euros per half pound) came out dry, small and barely edible…all of us guests requested several times a simple ceviche with coconuts & lime, abundantly available in these islands at every market, only got it served once in the week. The only high point was fresh fruit platter for breakfast and even that was pathetic, fruits like mangos or papaya were not ripe, pancakes made only once in a week and only ONE bread product which was white toast and, like everything, served at the table cold and dried out (the chef was cooking hours in advance and would leave food uncovered in the open cabin on the table for flies to taste ! Most of the serving plates and glassware were limited, often dirty as were water pitchers, fridges , sugar bowl ( see pic) and even napkins ran out after 3 days.

Neither the base team nor the skipper reported any issues during your cruise, nor did we receive similar feedback from other passengers onboard.
We understand the weather during your trip was challenging and may have added to your frustration.

While we’re pleased to hear your appreciation for the chef’s demeanor, we regret that the cuisine did not meet your expectations. The cruise operator has shared the following feedback with us after consulting with the base manager, captain, and cook:

• Boat: The boat was a 2021 Lagoon 46, 3 years old. When reserving a cabin cruise, the operator has the right to change the boat, if necessary, which we informed you of on the 17th of October. You were upgraded from the 2018 Leopard 45 to the 2021 Lagoon 46 that you sailed on.

o The cushions are being washed every week and aired out in the sun. Unfortunately, the weather was quite bad during this charter with lots of rain so the cushions became wet repeatedly. The skipper tried to dry out the cushions while guests were on an excursion.

o The leak from the cabin headboard hatch: The client did not close the hatch properly, so rainwater entered. The hatch has no leakage if closed properly.

o Bed linen/towels; we provided per cabin: 1 bed sheet, 2 bed covers, 2 bath towels, 2 beach towels, and 2 hand towels. If clients had asked for extra towels we would have happily accommodated.

• BBQ: our cooks decide whether to take a grill for the cruise or not. Seeing the bad weather conditions it was not taken on this charter.

• Fresh fish was caught during the charter; however, we cannot have fresh meat during a one-week cruise. Please note that Seychelles imports beef products from South Africa and other countries, so it will arrive frozen. Chicken is being bought fresh but will be stored in the freezer.
Fish caught on route and not being consumed immediately will also be stored in the freezer.

• Lobster: The clients requested lobster, and the crew made it happen. We are not in lobster season, so it is forbidden at the moment to catch or sell. Clients insisted that they wanted lobster, and the crew arranged with a local fisherman to get some for them. The cost is SCR 500.00 for a lobster which is the normal price you will get in any frozen shop on Mahe, Praslin & La Digue.

• Ceviche with coconuts & lime: This was a one-time proposal from the crew for our guests to taste local coconut and it was not the idea to change the menu for the whole week so to have this dish every day.

• Breakfast: The base manager purchases fresh fruit every Saturday morning from the bazaar. We try to vary breakfast items, so we do not serve pancakes every day. One day it will be pancakes, one day bacon, one day sausages, not all at once, and at the same time to ensure the food does not go to waste. According to our experience continental but not heavy breakfast works best at sea.

• Service items: We do not have a shortage of serving plates and glassware, but the number of each item is limited to 12. As for napkins we are very well stocked – a pack of 100 should last 2 days and the base manager personally bought 4 packs for this charter. In addition, we provide kitchen tissue rolls.

As a goodwill gesture, we proposed a voucher to make amends for your experience, but we understand that you declined it. We remain available by phone or email to address any further concerns or inquiries you may have.

Very polite and friendly people at both…

Very polite and friendly people at both Preveza and Lefkas offices of Istion, very helpful and responsive, provided us with all info we needed. Check in was smooth and efficient, with only few papers to sign and we were ready to go. Same was when we returned the boat, again polite fast and efficient service.
We had fantastic time on board.

Also booking process was clear and easy and all info we needed was provided swiftly and correctly.
