I have had multiple experiences with The Literary Studio, using both their manuscript review services as well as their full editing services. With their assistance, we worked closely on improving fictional writing that I have been working on.

Despite having some difficulties borne out of medical and family emergencies on both my side and theirs, they have remained courteous, attentive and exceptionally professional throughout. Writing a novel for the first time, with zero experience sure is a journey. I have finally managed to get mine to a place where I am genuinely proud of it, and almost can’t believe the difference from the first draft. It was this first (very amateur) draft that I worked on with Miles Hawksley, who supported me with a full Manuscript assessment and substantive editing, and in doing so, helped me take a giant leap in the process of writing a novel. It's challenging to see the issues in your own work, and yet it's a leap of faith to pay someone else to tell you what they are. I'm very glad I engaged the Literary Studio to do so.
I received a very comprehensive and insightful review. I found it both encouraging and yet also necessarily critical. I have a much better idea what I need to do to improve it and the main obstacles to overcome to help find representation.

I requested developmental editing for my novel, and the result was a comprehensive report that examined every aspect of the story, along with useful comments in the margins. The turnaround was quick—nearly two weeks—and very satisfying. The editor thoroughly read and analysed the novel, providing clear guidance on how to change and improve the story.

What made this process particularly helpful was the editor's precision, honesty, and kindness. The tips felt like friendly advice from someone who eagerly wanted to see the work improve, which was encouraging. I guess the biggest takeaway from this experience was that, through the perceptive eyes of the editor, I saw my story clearly from all angles for the first time and gained insight into how it could impact the reader.

While the process was meant to be more interactive, with clients having access to a portal to track the editing progress, technical issues prevented this feature. Despite that, I was so satisfied with the outcome that I overlooked this issue. I'm sure resolving it would make the process more engaging and exciting for writers.
