Amazing experience

Visited the Mere on 8/10/21 for a Serenity Spa day which included use of the spa facilities. Afternoon tea and treatments. What can I say a of the Team from Reception and the bar area were amazing, Annabelle who took are orders for afternoon tea was attentive and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Both Janna and Kirsty who provided the treatments gave plenty of information about the products used and knew how to make this a relaxing experience. Lastly James who's knowledge of the mere and spa services was brilliant. Will be visiting again.

WARNING!! DON’T JOIN MERE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB

I was a member of the Mere golf club for a week until another member there stole my Gold Rolex watch worth tens of thousands of pounds from the changing rooms. The manager there a chap called Gary who dealt with the issue is the worst manger that I’ve ever come across in the whole of my career in business management! His judgement and professionalism is way below average for his position. How this guy has got that position at Mere, I will never know? He refused to call the police or revoke the Guys membership who stole my watch, even after it was proven that the guy had my watch in his locker and after the one of the staff who found it in the locker signed the incident report stating that the watch was stolen! The perpetrator was even given a chance by the staff, which was planned and asked if he had seen the watch, to which he replied “ A what a watch, no mate” Gary the manger then said to me that based on the facts presented and on a business level, Quote; “I have decided not to revoke the persons membership based on these two factors” So letting two members go at £2k per annum and letting a thief stay at £1k per annum is a good executive business decision is it? Gary’s business management skills are 2/10 and does not have the ability to run a cafeteria never mind an establishment like Mere golf club.

Think twice before joining this club, especially whilst this guy Gary is in charge! It’s definitely gone down hill since he has been managing it as you can see by other peoples reviews! Plus your goods and valuables are not safe there!

Bad management and poor decision making, not to mention insulting. I’m the victim and I have been treated worse than the thief. He even had the audacity to ask me to leave the club and said to staff to call security! The reason for this is very clear! It was because I pointed out his management skills and contradictions and definitely because he was embarrassed at his own decisions in front of his staff! You don’t ask the victim to crime to leave??? I’m taking this matter to the board of directors anyway people, because this chap has no clue how to run a bath never mind, Mere Golf club and the people at the top deserve to know who they have running the place. At least his staff know now how poor of a manger he is and will be silently laughing about his, Quote “ it’s business” remark. Just to let you know Gary 3-2 =1so that’s a £2k loss buddy and the thief stays on at £1k per annum?

Stay somewhere else and don’t join here, there are lots more country clubs to join people, don’t give these your money. it’s not safe and not run by professionals!

WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE EVER

I stayed here on the 5th of October to celebrate my partners birthday, I paid a lot of money for a junior suite to make it an extra special experience. I had paid for the room upfront back in August so as far as I was aware everything was ready for our arrival.

Prior to arriving, I called the concierge desk to pay for some balloon bundles and champagne for the room, they advised me that it was £10 per 3 balloons for premium helium balloons and Moet champagne for two bundles of balloons and one bottle of champagne for this the cost was £85 - I was happy with this as I thought we would be receiving top quality item. The concierge desk attempted to take payment from my card over the phone three times, each time it declined and they did not know why. I knew it wasnt the funds in my account as I had checked this prior and I had plenty to cover this charge. After the third attempt I advised I would pay for them upon check out instead.

We arrived to the resort on the 5th and was "greeted" by staff behind the front desk whom where on there phone and chatting away (very professional) I had to ask to be served. The woman on the desk said, can I help? I said we have a reservation she said ok put your card in the machine. Unbeknown to me she was taking a deposit of £250 which I later found out by checking my bank balance.

She gave us the key and sent us on our way, we arrived to the room and I entered before my partner as I wanted to check that the balloons and champagne had been put into the room ready. I entered the room and was disgusted to find that there was dirty mud by the bathtub in the room, a questionable stain on the bed throw and the balloons I had paid £10 each for where tiny and deflating... The Moet champagne I was promised was a cheap champagne I had never heard of before and taste utterly vile (we didn't even finish a quarter of the bottle). I was very angry but decided not to ruin the surprise for my partner and that I would address it when I arrived home by contacting customer service.

We had booked into the hotels restaurant for tea (after being practically forced into booking at reception) we headed there at 7pm. We where promised a fine dining experience and quality food. We arrived and where seated in the front area of the restaurant, myself and partner both ordered the steak and a cocktail each. The lady who seated us apologised that the table was wobbly and insisted on rocking it back and forth to show us that it was not sturdy. She said I will shove something underneath the leg so it is a little better...(fine dining my a**) instead of moving us, she proceeded to shove a napkin table coaster underneath the leg t balance the table. We placed our order with another waiter, the drinks arrived after a long wait and he spilt half of my cocktail over the table and myself, he apologised after spilling almost half of the drink and walked away...he did not replace the drink so I paid £9.00 for half a cocktail and a nice shower of alcohol.

The steak arrived, it was hardly edible- very chewy and I left the majority of it. I advised the waitress when she came to collect our plates and she said oh sorry I will tell the chef next time...(great thanks).

I paid over £100 for this dreadful meal, but again I did not want to ruin my partners special birthday so I thought I would save it all for the complaint which was brewing for the mere.

The next day upon checkout, I was asked again to insert my card (again I had no idea what for) and then was told everything had been completed and I could leave.

We headed home, and I was concerned at the amount of times my card had been requested due to the fact everything except the cost of balloons and champagne was paid for so I checked my online banking. I was shocked to find over 5 transactions one of £200 another of £235 another of £100 another of £85 and another of £5! I I immediately contacted the mere to advise them of this. I was told someone would call me back.

I waited three days and still no call, I contacted them by email and waited another day for a response. I was told this was being looked into and someone would call me AGAIN no one called me. I emailed the customer service department again. Eventually Catherine had someone look into this in their accounts department. I later found out that one of the charges was a holding fee (deposit) which was never outlined to me and the rest was for the champagne, balloons, room charge, and room rate. I was advised that the deposit would go back into my bank and isnt actually taken. Had this been outlined prior as it should always be, there would have been no issue.

I also contacted them about the disgusting meal, room, service and additional items I had paid for, I was told this should have been reported during my stay and something might have been done about it, but because I didnt want to ruin my partners birthday and waited a day to report the issues there was nothing they could do.

I escalated the case to Gary Corbett and Gary Johnson MD and Resort manager, We discussed back and forth my complaint which is still unresolved from the 5th of October. After a while the team including Sami Amore have failed to respond to my communications, they have now blocked me on facebook so it does not allow me to message them and I am still waiting for some sort of compensation for this horrible stay.

They have ignored my communications via email since the 17th of October too, I have now involved trading standards and alerted the bank as I feel I was mis sold a service nearly £500 was spent on one nights stay at a measly 2* hotel at best.

I would NEVER stay at this hotel again and I would advise EVERYONE who is thinking of staying here NOT TO. AVOID IT!!!

Birthday treat from my husband

Birthday treat from my husband.
We spent the weekend and from check in to check out the experience was smooth, enjoyable and thoroughly memorable.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was truly delicious and I could happily have eaten it all over again.
My full body massage was great and the Spa and all its facilities was spacious, clean and a very large swimming pool.
The staff were pleasant and helpful throughout and they also arranged flowers for me at my husband's request.
Thank you for my most memorable weekend.

We have been working with The Mere for just over a year now and have always found the venue and staff to be of the highest quality. With our second golf day fast approaching we know the service from Joe Gates and his team will be first class this time round.
