Hopeless

Hopeless. They accepted a booking from us four weeks ago for the end of September which was five months away and sent us confirmation, which was all great, as we'd stayed there once before. Basically they had a contract with us which they decided, weeks after acceptance to bin. We were hoping to stay there for a family occasion. First we were told it was a 'technical glitch', then that they had accepted another block booking. Terribly disappointed about this utterly useless management. Incredible that they think it is ok to do this to returning guests who booked in good faith.

A totally unacceptable disappointing Sunday Lunch

We went for a Sunday Lunch to "The partridge" at Stretton Warrington, wish we hadn't bothered. The waiting staff that looked young enough to still be at school (saves on the wages bill) didn't seem to know where to seat us, so we were placed right next to an unlit open fire with ash and partially burnt newspaper in the grate, also a freezing cold draught blowing down the chimney onto our legs and feet. I requested that we be moved and was promptly directed to a small table with two chairs near to the entrance and the two swing doors, which allowed blasts of freezing cold air to waft over us and our food, as people left even though there were other empty tables in a more comfortable area.

After reading the menu I couldn't believe the extortionate prices for rather mundane food and drinks, how about £2.45 for a small bottle of tonic water add a single gin to that and we are talking £5.30.
This was hard to swallow in more ways than one, £6.00 for a bowl of soup, yes £6.00. Next on this menu of comedy is £13.00 for a hamburger,go to Burger King get a large "Whopper", fries and a drink for around £8.00.
Best of all was our Sunday roast, for £14.00 you can get a massive choice of meats, either beef of pork, (whatever happened to slices of Gammon or turkey breast ?) also you are given copious amounts of shredded cabbage (cheap and bulky) 4 thinly cut slices of pork draped over this pile of cabbage accompanied by a small piece of nearly raw broccoli, a few small and I mean small carrots, and wait for it, a small potato cut in half and roasted, a drizzle of gravy and thats £14.00, not once did any member of staff come to our table to ask "is everything to your satisfaction?" they did however come to the table on repeated occasions to ask if we wanted more drinks.

I am sure that I read somewhere that "Robin Hood" was dead, no he resides at the Partridge.
This so called "gastro pub is on par with many others that give you little and charge much for the privilege of sitting inside their premises.

This is not fine dining unless you are on some sort of medication,

Looking for fine dining in elegant surroundings, try the "Grill on the Square" Warrington, You may even get invited to the "Chef's Table" at least the Grill on the Square has Chefs, quite an honour so I am informed, but you will probably have to book in advance, it is very popular, I tried to book a table 2 weeks before Valentines Day, they were fully booked, now that speaks volumes to me.
