Written by the company

The Tag Prospector provides personalized western big game draw odds reports for hunters applying in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. Our reports cover deer, elk, and pronghorn, personalized to your specific state, species, residency status, and current preference point total, and delivered as a PDF straight to your inbox. Most hunters plan their draw applications from statewide averages buried in state agency PDFs. Those numbers don't tell you what your specific point total is worth on the units you're actually targeting, which hunt codes are within reach this season versus three years from now, or whether the floor on a hunt you've been building toward has been moving in your favor. That's the problem we built The Tag Prospector to solve. The Tag Report ($9.99) is our core product. A single-purchase draw odds report personalized to your state, species, residency, and preference point level. No subscription, no login, no recurring charges. You get draw odds at your specific point level, historical point floor trends, harvest success rates, and point creep analysis across the drawable hunts within reach and those just beyond it. So you know not just where you stand today, but what one more year of points is worth. The Prospector's Playbook is our multi-state strategy guide for hunters managing preference point portfolios across multiple western states. It takes your point balances across up to 15 state and species combinations and maps out a personalized 5-year plan, where to burn points, where to keep building, and where the odds have shifted enough to change the calculus. The Scout Report ($6.99) is a hunt-specific cost and timing report. Enter a target unit and your current points and it projects your draw year against the point creep trajectory for that hunt, then calculates your total cost of ownership through draw day, application fees, tag costs, and preference point fees stacked year by year. All of our analysis is powered by the Hunt Quality Score (HQS), a proprietary composite scoring model that evaluates whether a hunt is worth drawing for — not just whether you can draw it. HQS incorporates draw odds, harvest success rates, herd health indicators, point trajectory, and other factors that state draw reports publish but don't connect for you. We also offer two free resources: The Zero to One Report, a curated list of confirmed draw opportunities accessible at zero and one points across all five states, and The 5-State Strategy Leader, a data-driven guide to insights new hunters miss when reading state draw reports. The Tag Prospector is operated by Inclivity LLC, a Wyoming LLC founded and run by Jereme Nielsen, an active western big game hunter and draw data analyst based in Utah.

Powerful tool for the serious western big game hunter

For many years now, I’ve been building points in Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming for multiple big game species. I’m now at the stage where I want to start drawing some great tags in the coming years. Unfortunately, it’s a daunting task to figure out how to best utilize my points to get the maximum value for all that time and money invested.

After some research I came across the Prospector Playbook and quickly discovered it’s built to do the heavy lifting and provides a strategy that I can easily follow. It was really eye-opening and made me think about what my draw strategy really is. To see that I was building on some hunts that didn’t completely make sense was shocking. No doubt the playbook is enabling me to use those hard earned points in the most efficient way.

This playbook is a powerful tool for any western hunter and I highly recommend it to anyone who is building or has a lot of points in western states.

Dan, it's great to hear that the Prospectors Playbook gave you additional insights on refining your draw strategy. The Hunt Quality Score (HQS) helps to drive those decisions. We understand how subjective it can be from one hunter to the next to give them a "5-Year Roadmap". If it only helps you reposition a few hunts and where they properly fit in your points portfolio, you could be years ahead of the game vs. guessing what's working and what's not. Best of luck on positioning and drawing those hunts in the coming years. Trends shows that WY has units that are really coming around in both odds and quality improvements. Keep your eye on those. - The Tag Prospector Team.

Using The Tag Prospector

Using The Tag Prospector, I was able to draw a great quality hunt with zero points. The information and insights in their reports were incredibly valuable, and I'll definitely be purchasing more reports from them in the future!

So happy to hear that things worked out. The Tag Reports are a big time saver and from time-to-time expose some real gems that you might not find without the reports. Best of luck on filling that tag.

Finally stopped guessing with my tags

I’ve been lucky enough to draw elk and deer in Utah recently (I even managed to get a bull elk with only 1 point!), but I always felt like I was just gambling every time I hit "submit" on my applications. I just moved to AZ, so I’m trying to figure out a new system here, and that's when I got these reports.

Honestly, it was kind of a wake up call. I bought the Scout report and I was shocked to see the "Total Cost of Ownership" and realize that for some of the hunts I wanted, I might not actually draw for DECADES. It’s way better to know that now than to waste years wondering why I'm not getting a tag and spending thousands on it.

I also had never seen anything like the "Hunt Quality Score". I usually have a few "dream" areas, but if I can draw a high-quality tag somewhere else, I'm going to take it. The reports show me exactly which hunts I’m basically guaranteed to draw for right now, and the HQS makes it easy to pick the best one out of the bunch. If you're tired of just "applying and praying", these are definitely worth it. I will be back next year!

Glad to hear it hit the spot. We've worked hard to bring some innovation to the "hunting odds" space. It's not enough to simply provide odds reports and use the states data. We're positioning to be a leader in the space through analytics, TCO, long-term planning and bringing an element of quality to each hunt through the HQS ranking system. Best of luck in AZ. There are some good mule deer hunts in the state that you can draw with very few points that don't get pulled in the bonus pass part of the draw. Keep a look out for those.

Seeing the numbers influenced my choice of hunt and got me a limited entry tag with 0 points

I stumbled upon The tag prospector while doing research for this upcoming years big game draws. I hunt in the state of Utah and wanted to see my odds for the areas that I wanted to put in. I ended up at the website and bought the tag report. One for general deer and one for limited entry antelope. I didn't expect much from either this year (due to the fact I had 0 points for both) and was planning on buying an over the counter elk tag but I saw in the report an area that had a great chance at drawing. I was in an odd spot because this year was the last year of my wait period for putting in for a Limited entry bull elk tag so I really wanted a chance to draw a limited entry tag with 0 points ( which is something I really didn't believe was possible, especially now with how much of a cash grab hunting now is). You can coin it up to luck or just a mere coincidence but I ended up drawing a limited entry antelope tag and actually get the privilege to scout this summer for a nice buck and elk hunt! If I never got the chance to see the actual state numbers I would have never gotten this chance. The tag prospector is real and if you can look at some pretty gnarly state numbers I believe that anyone can draw premium tags in various states yearly. I hope to be able to update this with a picture of an antelope in fall. I highly recommend getting a report just to see the numbers and see if you can get a solid tag yearly. I look forward to using this product for years to come.

Were excited to hear that the The Tag Report data worked out for you. If anything it's a huge time saver having all the data in front of you vs. having to comb through hundreds of pages and multiple reports provided by the state. The Hunt Quality Score (HQS) also gives you a nice snapshot of the quality level of the hunts/units you're reviewing. Best of luck filling your tag this year. The Tag Prospector Team.
