Fantastic app! I recommend it to everyone. It’s great that you can take the carbon quiz to find out your emissions and then the amount or trees that will help to offset it.

Very easy to use and well designed

Very easy to use and well designed. Lovely to be able to see the projects you’re contributing to. Fantastic cause and good to see transparency around the work - though I did go to the company’s website for this rather than on the app (looked at their impact report online).

Good, but these are the things I would like to know

I love the idea of this app. I liked that the first ads were of eco-conscious products, a shame there were only 3 or 4, I wish there were more of that. I just really hope that this is 100% genuine. I would love to see more information of how they actually work, how often they plant the trees, up to date videos and pictures of the places they are working in, and share their finances like Ecosia does in their blog.

I love Treeapp

I love Treeapp! Everyday you can plant a new tree by watching an add, some are even recycling or environmentally friendly companies! You unlock new countries, get to see pictures from the area and get a brief overview of what causes the trees are needed for from farmers, wildlife or habitat restoration.

Love the app!

Love the app but I wish they took more photos of trees they planted and you got bonus trees for more activities such as small missions and such. It is a wonderful experience and super fun seeing if you can plant more trees than your friends!

Awesome app

Awesome app. Easy to navigate and understand. You not only support trees planting but also can see the progress (there are pictures and vidoes). You watch one advert and support planting 1 tree. It doesn't sound much but more people doing it makes big difference. Every even small step counts. You also can choose country where you want tree to be planted on a map.
Nature and all of us needs more projects like this. You are doing realy good job guys. Thank you so much!

Simple but great

Treeapp is a simple but great app that lets you do something good for the environment in an easy way. By watching a short ad each day, a tree gets planted at no cost to you. Clear, easy to use, and a nice way to make a positive impact.

TreeApp is just wonderful.

TreeApp is just wonderful.
I use this daily. You create a free TreeApp account and select where on the global map you'd like to plant a tree. You watch a short advert which funds the tree planting.
For approx 20-30 seconds a day, you help fund 1 tree planting. So that's 365 free trees for the planet annually. I feel this helps to contribute towards reducing our carbon footprints and helps with environmental projects abroad. :)
There are also short educational videos on the app which highlight the important work that they do.
I use Free TreeApp, together with free browser ECOSIA, daily, which gets more than 700 free trees planted by me annually for the Planet.
I can do it, so can you. It's FREE. We can all work towards making our planet greener and safer. Enjoy, thanks to the inspiration TreeApp! Breathe.

It is amazing

It is amazing! I think this app should be just as popular as for example ecosia, because you literally just have to watch a single short ad (literally just 20-40) seconds and boom! Funds for tree planting. It’s amazing, and definitely recommended. Wish they got more attention on tiktok! Also the people who complain about “not reaching the goal of absorbing carbon emissions without paying” seriously cant be real. It isn’t a game, it’s just something you do to help the planet. It also depends on your carbon footprint. I have a lower one and I am very close to reaching it for this month already. You also get a bonus tree like every 7 days if you keep the streak!

As simple as it sounds

As simple as it sounds, watch an ad plant a tree! We all know you've wasted time watching an ad before to no societal benefit, well now you can just that time to benefit everyone. No excuses, just doing good.

Where did it go wrong?

Feel like they've been slowly making the app worse for a while, and now they've just given up. You can't reach 100% trees anymore unless you pay, and the adverts are now terrible. At first I used to get a mix of sustainable ads and random game ads, but now it's all game ads and has been for a long time. And a lot of them are buggy and open up multiple versions of the play store so you have to close like 3 things when you're done. I keep getting French ads as well (I'm not in France!). I used to love the idea of this app and I've even bought multiple products from the old adverts they used to have so it's pretty sad how far they've fallen. I saw them post a blog link when other people complained about similar things and it's the most tragic corporate babblespeak I've ever seen. I don't know if they're just out-of-touch and lost sight of who they used to be, or some new hire has come in from a gambling background who "knows" how to manipulate users, but it's no longer the app I used to love. I hope they were genuine about the trees I planted but I've uninstalled now.

Hi Lyra,

Thank you for taking the time to write your feedback.

We have indeed moved to a new ad model in order to safeguard the funds needed for our operations, given the rising costs of tree planting and monitoring, and fluctuating revenue from sponsored advertisements.

This allows us to ensure that each tree is planted and taken care of without cutting corners, while also allowing users across the world to participate in our efforts for free. These ads should, however, not be buggy and open other tabs. We'll be happy to have a closer look at it.

Regarding getting ads in French, would you perhaps use a VPN? If not, could you please reach out to us at hello@thetreeapp.org so that we can have a closer look at both this as well as the ad issues?

Best regards,
Dimitris

This used to be such an amazing app…

This used to be such an amazing app with sustainable product adverts. Unfortunately it has changed to watching gaming adverts which I feel is the complete opposite of what their users want. Plus it is now impossible to reach 100% every month without buying more trees which is messed up as my carbon footprint has actually reduced on what it was… Once again another great app has made changes for the worse.

Hi Charlotte,

Thank you for your feedback.

Regarding your first point, we have indeed integrated third-party ads into our app for multiple reasons. Firstly, our mission is to allow anyone, anywhere to contribute to the reforestation of our planet and have a positive impact. As we continue to scale to additional countries, we need to find more ways to continue making sure it’s possible, all while remaining free for you.

This allows us to safeguard revenue for our operations, regardless of the demand for advertisement per country, through our platform, and ensure that all trees planted will receive the care they need in order to fully grow. We understand that some of these ads might not be the most interesting, but we're doing everything possible to improve your experience.

As for your second point, we completely understand why seeing a change in your carbon absorption figures could be worrying. At the start of this year, we made a small update to how contributions from ads are calculated. This was done to better reflect the real, on-the-ground cost of planting trees responsibly, including fair wages, long-term maintenance, and planting in remote locations where restoration is most needed.

We’ve written a blog that explains this in more detail and shares why these changes are important for keeping tree planting free and sustainable in the long term. Feel free to visit our blog article below for more information:

Dimitris

Ruined by recent changes

Recent changes have ruined the app, and in general the aim of what they wanted to do. You no longer get interesting sponsored adverts from ethical organisations, they've been completely binned in favour of generic mobile game adverts. Would be nice if these still counted the same, but they don't. The tree "count" does not refer to actual trees, but rather an imaginary amount of trees you "may" be "contributing" towards. Plus as of 2026 they've now made the 100% planting goal completely impossible to achieve just by watching ads. The goal is now around 3x the amount you can gain just from ads, so they want you to make up the rest by purchasing more trees or paying for their subscription. Feels like a predatory way to guilt-trip people into taking the subscription, rather than just offering it to people who simply wanted to do more. Now you're being made to feel like it's inadequate unless you do it. Greedy, and shameless tactics that feels more like mobile shovelware than actually being an ethical company. After 1600+ trees "planted", I'll be uninstalling this now sadly as it's simply nothing like what it used to be.

Edit: Their response is 100% copy/pasted from where they also plonk it on other places like the app store. They didn't make a "slight change" to how the carbon footprint is calculated, they purposefully made it impossible to achieve without one-off payments or taking out a subscription. They didn't just add third-party ads, they completely removed the original sponsored ads which was half the point of the app. They're making the app worse, whilst now also engineering it to guilt people into spending more money at the same time. Nothing about that comes across as an ethical and honest company. There's clearly been some change in tactic, and it's ruined the purpose of the whole thing.

While some users might not be able to reach 100% carbon absorption through free planting, each user has the opportunity to participate in global efforts and empower local communities, as the benefits of tree planting are not only reduced to individual carbon absorption.
