Following a long drawn out disagreement with The Wooden Floor Store, they offered to pay for an impartial report by an independent company to establish the cause of the problem. They agreed with the report, but only in part, pointing out that the product was not faulty. However, they disagreed with the recommendation regarding floor expansion joint requirements, and that it had been incorrectly fitted. Begs the question why instruct an independent report only to pick and choose which parts of the report you are willing to accept.
Direct quotes from the report as follows.
“This type of flooring should not be run through doorways into adjacent rooms without expansion breaks”.
“I therefore submit this report for your consideration and confirm that the creaking between the lounge and hall is due to the flooring being installed contrary to the manufacturer’s specifications and not due to manufacturing defects”.
When I challenged them re the incorrect fitting of the product, they welcomed involvement of the Ombusman – probably because they are not a member of any Ombusman scheme or a member of any organisation associated with the Ombusman scheme. Seems unprofessional to not sign up to the scheme. They have continually inferred that the problem lay with the sub floor in our new build home. Not really sure how they would know this and they do not seem to understand how their own product should be fitted in the first place.
In sheer frustration I have now reported the Wooden Floor Store Trading Standards.
The irony is that they could have fixed our flooring problem with the money they wasted on the independent report, and had a happy customer. But clearly, they are not interested in maintaining any kind of good customer relations, after sales service or accepting any responsibility for their actions.
They have at least now admitted in an email that they do in fact recommend fitters- but they do not however accept any responsibility for these recommendations. Quote:”while we do recommend installers to customers, we do not employ them, we do not arrange fitting on behalf of the customer, and we do not accept responsibility or payment for installation”. “It is the customers responsibility to ensure they are satisfied with their chosen installers capability, as no two projects are the same”. So if you are considering giving The Wooden Floor Store your hard earned cash- be warned.
I was surprised and believe their threat of legal action against us was unrequired and excessive considering we have only ever stated facts. We have therefore been careful to tell truths and quote them directly.
They are full of contradictions as they have kindly offered to recommend a fitter to fix the floor, albeit at our expense. Not sure how they propose to do this as the last fitter blamed lack of adhesive and the independent report recommended expansion joints while they themselves are blaming my sub floor. Also, how can we use a fitter they are recommending when from what they have previously stated, they cannot guarantee the workmanship of any recommendations they make!
I would suggest to anyone who is intending to invest thousands of pounds on wooden flooring, they should choose a business more carefully than I did and certainly one that has a moral compass.

If a store expects customers to buy their flooring, they should have samples available in store, and free! Not to have to order and pay for samples, that by the way, have not been delivered.
Not impressed, went elsewhere.

Terrible experience with this company. The communication (or lack thereof) and customer service was awful.
Ordered several boxes of tiles months in advance. One type was discovered to be missing by our plumber and only delivered in time as our plumber pulled some strings with the courier.
Then another type of tile was found to be missing. Told it would be delivered several times but wasnt. We were on a deadline with the tiler so eventually were told a staff member would deliver it personally after work and that didn’t happen/we weren’t told they wern’t coming.
Assured would be delivered first thing Monday morning. Morning came and went with no delivery. Husband ended up having to collect them himself. No apologies given at all.
Staff could do with customer service training.
