Discovering that some members of Thorntons' conveyancing team are dual qualified made the move i was contemplating - relocating back to Scotland from England - seem so much more doable.

Steven Drake responded promptly to my initial enquiry, providing clear and comprehensive information, including an estimate of fees based on my asking price and likely purchase price. He subsequently dealt with all aspects of my sale and purchase efficiently, kept me well informed at all times and provided invaluable advice, including for other properties I considered. Further, when he was on leave during part of the sale process Steven arranged for another dual-qualified colleague to deputise. Finally, the fees charged were as set out in the estimates provided with no unexpected extras. I would definitely recommend Thorntons, all the more so if you are planning a cross-border move.

I can’t recommend Thorntons Law highly enough. My sale was far from straightforward, as the deeds were still connected to my late partner. It was an incredibly difficult situation emotionally, but I felt fully supported throughout the entire process.

Initially, I had planned to use another company. However, from the very first phone call with Thorntons, I immediately felt reassured by how professional, understanding, and supportive they were. The previous company had advised that resolving everything could take between 10 months and a year and didn’t make me feel they had much compassion/care, which left me in a very difficult position as I was ready to sell and had already found another property. I contact a few other company’s however from the get go with Thorntons Law I knew they were proactive and trust worthy, one main thing from the get go I was advised on the initial phone call I would receive a call back to discuss however it was 4pm so I wasn’t hopeful 5pm approached and I googled their opening times (closed at 5pm) never the less I received a phone call at 5.20 as promised this put my mind at ease as I was able to discuss my position and felt reassured completely my situation would be cared for immediately. During this phone I was advised I’d hear from a private client solicitor the following morning 9:05am I received this phone call the next morning. This showed they had compassion, they were keen to have me as a client/customer and extremely pro-active. This care immediately made me feel more at ease.

Thorntons were outstanding. They worked incredibly hard to move everything forward as quickly as possible, and what I had been told could take up to a year was resolved within just a few months. Their guidance, communication, and professionalism throughout were exceptional, but what stood out most was the genuine compassion they showed during such a challenging time.

I worked with both a private client solicitor — special thanks to Graham Hill — and my conveyancing solicitors, Beth Gerrard and Lucy Rourke, who were all fantastic. Without their support, I honestly think I would have felt completely lost, and given my circumstances, it could easily have taken a serious toll on my mental wellbeing.

Even when my solicitors were on annual leave, I always felt supported and knew exactly who to contact if I had questions. Communication was excellent from start to finish, and the whole process was handled far better than I could ever have hoped for.

From the off there was understanding and support. I find it difficult to speak on the telephone after suffering a stroke 18 months ago and I now rely heavily on my partner to speak on my behalf which in the situation I faced was rather difficult . Stephanie Watson was assigned my case and although on instances could only speak to me , she accommodated calls where my partner could be on “speaker “ with me present and would also respond to her emails asking for certain aspects and procedure to be broken down to help me understand more easily. This was to give me reassurance and keep my stress level down, anxieties manageable . I could not have continued at times if it wasn't for the constant support and belief Ms Watson continued to show these past 12-13 months. For this we are truely grateful . Thank you.
