Be aware they cheat with that card

We rented a car in Miami, excellent car, and were told that everything was fine when we returned the car. Unfortunately we got a parking fine of $79,- but got a bill from Thirfty for $188,- which they deducted from my card. I contact them and ask for documentation on the bill but receive nothing, they say they can't see that they have deducted anything. After a month they make another withdrawal of $108 and still no response. Make sure they have your card details and can withdraw whatever they want without limit. They never get back when you contact them, I have now closed my card so they can no longer withdraw money.

I would write this zero stars if I…

I would write this zero stars if I could. I booked through a third-party rental, and paid in full. When I got to the counter after waiting in an extremely long line and having a flight delay, they refused to honor my reservation. The person at the counter was extremely unhelpful and unwilling to work with us. They made us take out a new reservation under Hertz. They charged us over double. Thrifty would not work with us and her will not work with us now. They owe us $963 and nobody is willing to help. I would never rent through this company or Hertz again. I will be sure to inform all my friends and family so they never have to go through an experience like this .

Quests for money.

An excellent choice if you like to play quests for money.

Given - the car, according to the renter, without damage. I go to the car, it was already night, I take a flashlight, check it and “unexpectedly” find damages. I take photos and send them to the company.

When returning the car, they did not check it right away, since it was early in the morning. They checked it later and sent a report with “damages” for the amount of the deposit)))

I noticed 2 of the 3 damages at night, so after long negotiations, they didn’t invoice for them, but I didn’t notice one mini scratch (not paint, but just polishing), for which I received a fine of 125 euros (70 euros for a scratch, 40 euros for administrative fees (whatever that means) and + VAT). The employee's comment was that it was necessary to take out insurance. No photo? So you are to blame.

Therefore, in this company, either take the car ONLY with insurance, or inspect it with spotlights and a magnifying glass before you take it! And take pictures of EVERYTHING, even the most harmless scratches, both BEFORE your appointment and as you LEAVE the car! I am not sure that this scratch did not appear in the period of time from delivery to reception by the employee. I've taken a car at Eurocar before and never had such situations happen.

No cars for a prepaid reservation 2 hr wait!!!

I Had a prepared reservation for 8:30 pm. At the Atlanta Airport. Waited in line for 35 min and when I got to the counter they said it would be an hour before any cars are ready. It’s been 65 min and still no car. Over 30 people are waiting. No cars and all had reservations.

CAUTION

CAUTION! Still going around in circles with Thrifty/Hertz over a rental from 10/3/2022, booked through EconomyBookings.com (warning NEVER use them). Special rate of $25 per day for 12 days actually charged $928,77. Have requested a breakdown of (over) charges. EconB says they don't show breakdown, only Thrifty can. Hertz keeps asking for booking numbers and claims they cannot find the rental - even charged me $25 to search. But Hertz had no trouble charging my rental claim $700 for accident that was not covered by my auto insurance. My credit card would pay deductible if Hertz would only supply a breakdown of charges.

I keep getting passed around and asked for same info given multiple times, with no real intelligent response. If they cannot provide a breakdown of charges, then can they charge ANY AMOUNT they wish with no validation of the charges? Also sending complaints to several Consumer Protection Agencies. BEWARE!!!!!

Absolutely appalled

Absolutely appalled. Made a one-way trip with Thrifty. Price was good, car was clean and effective. We passed through several toll roads on the way, expecting to be invoiced for them since we had no way of paying them on a car we didn't own during the trip.

Thrifty WAITED until the tolls were overdue (we returned the car BEFORE THIS), and then charged us the fee for toll evasion! What should've been a twenty dollar expense became almost seventy, after we'd already paid them over 1.5k for the trip, cleaned/vacuumed/wiped down the car after use and returned it full of fuel!

Will NEVER be travelling with Thrifty or Hertz again.

We accidentally entered the wrong…Paul to the Rescue

We accidentally entered the wrong surname when booking a thrifty vehicle through booking.com. Paul Saltoon at Sydney airport spent considerable time on our behalf trying to get booking.com to send an advice with the correct surname but like me could get no where with them. Paul then found us a great car at a great price. 10 out of 10 Paul - much appreciated David Morris

PAID for a car to find no car available!

I booked a car with Thrifty through Booking.com.
I PAID in full over $900, and took an Uber to pick up the car.
I got to the Moorabbin branch and a customer services rep told me 'we don't have a car for you'. I stood there in disbelief and saw a yard full of cars. They have a network across Melbourne, but wouldn't lift a finger to find one. I begged them to help me as I needed to be somewhere in an hour. Still not a glimpse of help. I asked to speak to the manager and was told they were at a family lunch. I had to spend the next hour contacting booking.com, trying to get a refund,
whilst simultaneously trying to source another car. They watched on and did nothing. This is customer service bogged down in some meaningless red tape.

I left, their premises to find a woman sitting on the curb outside. Her license had expired thus she was told she could not have her car as she couldn't find a pdf on her phone of her renewed license. Apparently she had told them to give me her car. The reps had told her, they would not because it was a different category!!!

I marched back in and demanded that considering the stress they had created, they could give me her car.
Again they repeated the 'computer says no' nonsense.
I insisted they called the manager and get approval to give me the so called 'upgrade' that cost me over $400 more.
I was so desperate to get out of there and be able to get to my obligations that I paid and left crying from the stress of dealing with Thrifty.

I reminded them this was not an upgrade as that generally implies a certain value add, which this was not.
I will be writing to their manager and customer complaints. I will let them know how much I was forced to fight to leave with a car at all.

Unbelievable that in this day and age a US global brand would allow such a terrible customer experience.
Never again.

I would give Leicester Thrifty car hire…

I would give Leicester Thrifty car hire zero rating, if there is any option for zero. Absolutely worst customer service by their staff and specially branch manager, he shouldn't be working as branch manager, as he doesn’t have any skill how to treat their customer. My company allocate them to give me a company car, they deliver me at home but after 2 days I find out its faulty. After long phone conversation and westing my valuable time they couldn't help me, so I went to their branch, after 40 minutes of waiting they exchange me a car which is small size, but my company allocate me medium size car. Branch manager says they don't have any other car. And no apology from him. Disgusting customer service.
Save yourself the trouble and go with a different car hire company unless you enjoy unnecessary stress, questionable vehicles, and feeling like you're being taken for a ride—pun intended.

Grifty Thrifty: The car rental company that robs you blind.

We booked our car rental with Thrifty through Expedia. The cost was $484 Canadian dollars for one week rental of a compact car. We dealt with the Thrifty Car Rental at the Phoenix airport. When we got there they told us that they didn’t have a compact available so they would give us a full size car for the sane rate. They told us they would fill our car at a competitive rate when we returned it. We agreed. Our credit card was charged $1400.00 for the rental and $160 fot one tank of gas. They added on all kinds of charges after the fact. I contacted the Phoenix rental office and the head office. Neither office retirned my calls. . Do NOT rent a car from this company. When we contacted Expedia they said there was nothing they could do, because we opened the contract when we accepted the full size car. We will never deal with Expedia or Thrifty again. They are crooks.

Beware of dodgy hidden charges

Beware of dodgy charges subtracted from your deposit.

Upon completion of our car rental, we had $75 subtracted from our deposit refund.

We had a 'premium location fee' which is apparently because of the airport location (why this was sneakily subtracted from the deposit refund instead of being added to the initial invoice and made transparent, is beyond me).

We also had a $50 'miscellaneous' fee, with no explanation. I questioned this, and was put in touch with the very rude and callous Branch Manager, Kayce. She gruffly told us that the fee was a cleaning fee and that she put it in as the wrong code to the invoice. I enquired further, and found that our car had some red dirt on the boot door and back wheels due to the recent heavy thunderstorm, which could have easily been hosed off in under a minute (and is unavoidable when driving in the desert). I asked repeatedly to see a process for how they deem what is noted as 'excessive' vs 'standard' cleaning, to which Kayce avoided answering repeatedly.

If there was some sort of cleaning rating system that they are following to determine excessive cleaning required, and if it was added to the invoice in a transparent way and explained to us upon sending the invoice, I would be able to understand the charges. But it was not – it was subtracted from our deposit refund in a sneaky (borderline fraudulent) way.

So just beware. Whatever you are quoted for your car hire at Thrifty Uluru, add on an extra $75 (minimum), and expect to be met with boorish customer service from Kayce if you enquire about it.

Do NOT go there

Do NOT go there. If I could give zero starts I would. I have been renting vehicles for 40 years never experienced like this. The car had problems. After spending a whole day calling Thrifty I finally got someone to say they would come and switch out the car. For starters it took me 10 hours for someone to come bring me the replacement car. On his way to me he went through a toll without paying so I got a fine and penalty charges for that. After 6-8 calls I got that resolved now 2 months later a charge for $870 shows up on my charge card. I have been calling for 3 days to try to talk to someone to find out why. They are telling me it was for roadside assistance. I didn’t have roadside assistance. I called from my mothers house saying the car has issues. You came a switched it out. Each phone call I make I’m told a supervisor will call me by the end of the day. 3 days later and still no return call. When you do call you get someone from another country. All their script says is “I’m sorry”. That’s all they say. I got smart and asked one why are you sorry. Well she had no idea what to say. Then when you’re on the phone trying to explain what happened and to ask WHY am I getting charged the answer is always the same. We’ll let me read this and look into it. Then they continue by saying “so how is your day going”. Are you kidding me how is my day going. I’m calling to tell you-no one is fixing this or even calling me back. How do you think my days going!!!!! Worst company ever.

Very disappointed with Thrifty.

I rented a car in Jordan and it was filthy inside, with stains and grime. On the outside it didnt appear to have a surface that was not damaged. Having sat through the promotional video in the reception, I expected something at least clean. In addition, the staff were indifferent and were clearly commenting on my disappointment with the vehicle itself - which was aesthetically poor. Apart from that, it did get us to and from our multiple locations. I have had better experiences with every other car hire company I have used worldwide.

I rented a car at the Las Vegas…

I rented a car at the Las Vegas airport. Waited on line for an hour. Get to the counter only to be told only electric cars were available. I didn’t want an electric car. In order for me to get a gas fueled car I could wait for 2 hours for one to become available or I could pay for an upgrade and get a car immediately. I paid for the upgrade because I wanted to leave the airport. No where on their website When
looking to rent a car the words “electric” car appear. This is a bait and switch. Can’t give me what I ordered and paid for only if I pay for an upgrade. There were about 20 other customers who were as frustrated as I was.

THRIFTY IS CONSISTENLY TERRIBLE

I had a confirmed rental for my trip to Salt Lake City, Utah at the airport, which was a convenient location. However, when I went to pick up my car my car, they asked for a credit card and I gave them my banking card, which can be used as either a credit card or debit card. They did not allow that and said because it was a debit card that they needed to take a $500 security deposit vs. the $200 that I was told. It did not sit well, but whatever.

Then the rep told me that because I was using a debit card, they needed to run my credit to make sure I was credit worthy. I reminded them I was not buying the car but renting it. Strike 2 - that did not sit well either.

It gets better. Then they said that because I am using a debit card that they could only use a debit car on their higher end cars that cost $50 more per day. That makes little sense. They are worried about me having a higher security deposit, do a credit check because they do not think I am credit worth and their solution is to put me in a higher end and newer car. Not sure the genius that came up with that policy.

So, a 3-day rental that was supposed to be $300 total, ended up cost me $660. I called customer service to ask questions about their policies that are illogical at best, and I got rude attitude and arrogance that their policies will never change.

I figured I would give them a try because their lines are always empty...now I know why, and I won't be using them again.

I needed to hire two cars

I needed to hire two cars, I was very disappointed when I read the reviews but found a better car hire company Buggs after reading reviews. We had to book an overnight stay at a hotel at the airport after finding out the car hire place will be shut when we arrive at the airport. We arrived at 9:30 pm Saturday evening but the car hire place did not open until 4pm Sunday, the airport only has two flights arriving anyway it just doesn't make sense that you would not staff the car hire place to match the incoming and outgoing flights at the airport. Thrifty is also Hertz, the car was ok, I would have cancelled the car hire but I did not want to end up sustaining cancelation fees. for such a big company they could have been more accommodating it wouldn't take much.

Do not use them at all

Do not use them at all. Went to the Arncliffe branch in Sydney, the customer service representative was extremely rude. Cancelled my booking immediately because I had a slight issue with my debit card which WAS fixed 2 mins after. Booked my car for 12pm and representative tells me they shut at 12pm and was just giving me attitude.

Basically told me to F off to the airport branch if I wanted to hire a car. A very unpleasant experience and I will never be doing business with them again.

Stay Away!

Rude, Accused of damage and Overcharged

Hired a ute through the Tullamarine Vic branch. Treated the car like gold, filled it up completely on the same road I was to return it. Was accused of damage i didn't do....employee hid in office and handballed me to another employee on the phone...both were rude and accusing me of damage I didn't do.
2 weeks later I receive a call saying damage was pre-existing and they are sorry for the inconvenience...they still debited me $60 even though I filled the tank 300 metres from drop off....will never ever go through them again. Just an appalling joint.
