Charges and customer service

I received a 2 confirmation codes from PayPal with £0.01 to verify my account and I got charged by tide £0.40 for each code so it took my account into £-0.38 in overdraft. So I payed overdraft and it changed me another £0.20. So it cost me £0.60 to receive a £0.02 pence. I contacted customer support and explained them what happened. They didn’t seemed to be bothered about it and only send me their fee link. After I sed that I was disappointed with their service and thinking to close my business account, they didn’t showed any concern and send me a cancellation link. Seems to me that tide only care about taking customers money. I would not advise anyone to join tide.

I was scammed by calling from Tide Bank…

I was scammed by calling from Tide Bank number (0333 121 0266) and receiving SMS from Tide corporate number. All my money in my business account is gone. You, on the other hand, returned to me with only 1 message after 1 week of review, saying 'sorry, we cannot make payment' without any detailed explanation. Even though I said that the expenses do not belong to me, you even approved the expenses that were in the 'Pending' position. Moreover, you did not contact me for any of the large expenditures made during 2 days, you did not freeze my account!
I started the whole process at the 'Financial Ombudsman Service'. You will pay for this irresponsibility!

Very dissapointing service

I very bad services provided by the bank. I tried to register a company and get a business account and it is just impossible. When I called them to ask why it hasnt got through my application, they didnt know and the solution they gave me is to try again, but they have registered the email account I used at the beginning, so I cant try again. The solution they gave to this is to this is to open another email account and try again. They made my life very difficult. I recommend to avoid at all costs. There are several bank options with better service.

Amateurish customer service

Tried to open up a business account but they couldn’t get their head around what a holding company was. Based on their inexperience, they eventually decided all holding companies had to fit into a suspect category along with companies dealing in crypto currency or gambling etc. Declined my application to open up a new account so I went to another online bank Cashplus and account opened within hours with no problems based on information readily available from companies house and the usual ID and credit checks.

Just Google “tide froze my account” and…

Just Google “tide froze my account” and see how these people operate.

Well, I have 2 separateTide business accounts so feel it’s fair for them to get 2 negative reviews.

In response to their BS on the previous review:

“Rest assured that account pauses happen only to ensure the safety of our members' accounts. We don't take chances with security and we are always following industry regulations in regard to this. It would be our pleasure to look into this and forward your feedback to the relevant team.“

This is just the same cut and paste response they say every-time a question is asked.

They have paused 2 business accounts. ONE FULL MONTH AGO. I employ people. I pay wages. I invoice people. I receive money. Now how much fun is it to run a business without a bank account? How easy is it to get people to pay invoices to a new account? How much fun is it to try and pay wages when you can’t access your money? Think we all know the answers don’t we?

How can it take a company this big over a month to “review” something. They haven’t even been able to tell me what they are “reviewing.” They can’t even have someone have a conversation with me. They have been given my contact number and details in their below request and guess what? No-one has rang.

God knows why this company does this? I own seven companies. My business banking with HSBC for 4 years. No issues. Starling bank? No issues. Monzo? No issues. Tide? Let’s freeze it for no reason. Let’s not bother prioritising a frozen account so the business can carry on operating, let’s just send a copy and paste text reply through the app.

What tickles me the most is that their “complaints department” is looking into this, and uses the same cut and paste response as the general chat.

Just go to one of the other banks. It’s much easier and you won’t be subject to some none-sense as this company must not give two poops about it’s clients, otherwise I wouldn’t be in the same place 1 month later…. With no explanation as to why in the first place.

*** UPDATE ***

They have suddenly opened my account!!! Funniest thing is the £75 compensation - yes this IS going further. Next best part is that they have even lied on their letter to me!!

“We advised you to attempt to resolve this dispute directly with your customer and requested that you supply us with proof that the dispute is resolved and any other information you might have that would aid our investigations. Preferably, please aim to do this within 5 business days.“. NO THEY DIDNT!!!! Considering Michael Fleming Complaints Handler has “reviewed” my case and all of the messages sent by tide, he has clearly missed the section WHERE THEY DIDNT TELL ME WHAT THE DISPUTE WAS DESPITE ME ASKING over 10 times what the dispute was:

“ We have placed a temporary pause on your account. During this time, you will not be able to send or receive payments from, or into your Tide Account or use your card.

We appreciate that this may cause some concerns however, our Compliance Team is currently reviewing your account. We will be in touch via email as soon as there is any further update. Please be aware, this may take up to 30 business days.

UK financial regulation requires us to verify information from time to time to ensure we remain compliant and our members’ accounts are safe.

If you have any questions, please let us know, we are here to help.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Kind Regards,”

And then EVERY TIME I asked what was happening and for some information I got this cut and paste reply - I received this exact reply Sept 12th (twice), Sept 13th, Sept 14th, Sept 15th (twice), Sept 17th, Sept 18th, Sept 19th, Sept 20th, Sept 22nd, Sept 24th (I gave up after this and decided to bank elsewhere).

“ Hi Darren,

Unfortunately at this time I have no update to give you.

As soon as I have one, you will be contacted through the app.

UK financial regulation requires us to verify information from time to time to ensure we remain compliant and our members’ accounts are safe.

Our Compliance Team is currently reviewing your account.

Unfortunately we do not have the availability to call out at this time.

All communication needs to take place via the App or email.

Apologies this is not what you were hoping to hear.

Kind regards,”

Their “Complaints team” contacted me on Sept 17th - no reply from them until October 4th!!!

AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!!!!

NEVER OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH TIDE

NEVER OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH TIDE. Beware small business owners never open an account with Tide. They will freeze your account and will not give you any timings of when it will open up. I'm a mum running a small business and over this past weekend I've not been able to buy groceries for my children and my son even needed new school shoes. WELL DONE TIDE FOR NOT SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESSES.

This bank makes me smile

This bank makes me smile. I was a little hesitant about using a bank that uses app, but it all seems to work out well. A lot of people are critical of this bank, but you have to look at how they work to make a full judgement. If you are expecting a high st bank, with branches and people to serve you instore, this isnt for you. If you want a no fuss application, and to be up and running in minutes, then its just what you want.

As a sole trader, the traditional banks dont seem to want to help me. You are expected to make an appointment in the next big town, which is a non starter if you rely on public transport. They are reluctant to give start ups a chance and leave you feeling cool and almost unwanted.

Tide are different, they seem to welcome startups, but please note, you cant call them, its all done by instant messaging, unless you are willing to pay for an upgrade.

It is what it is, and as long as you are aware its not a high st branch, as i said at the start, they make me smile, not something you would get with a high street bank.

This bank destroys businesses!

We saw some odd transactions on our business account that we had not made and reported it to Tide, who promptly froze our account and cards preventing us from paying anyone including our staff!

The worst and most infuriating part is that their customer support is non-existent! You can't talk to anyone either on the phone or through chat. You don't get any replies to any emails - Nothing! We are completely in the dark as to when our account is going to be reopened and replacement cards issued etc.

This "bank" is a total nightmare to deal with and is killing our business! We can't pay our staff, our landlords, the VAT bill - Nothing!

UPDATE - After over two weeks and countless attempts to find anyone in support to actually talk to, our account was finally unlocked, although the damage done to our business was immense. We lost our Facebook and Google ads accounts, could not buy stock or raw materials, and pay staff etc. JUST AVOID THIS BANK - SUPPORT IS NON-EXISTENT.

I am so disappointed with this bank

I am so disappointed with this bank. They decided to close my account without any reason and it’s difficult to access my funds in the account because they have paused my account.

I am just a small business trying to grow but not to the expensive of this cowboy bank.

I was scammed…

I was scammed by a web site and looked to have lost over £200. After a slow start with Tide they got on too of the issue and I have had money refunded. I note other comments about service. Don't give up and ask for evaluation is required. They stepped up for me after some encouragement.

TIDE BANK freezing accounts for no reason!!

The company I work for have had their account frozen so the company can't pay me or my colleagues. I've been into the office and seen for myself how they are unable to contact tide or given an estimate of time to get it resolved. The company is established and doing well.
Tide are doing nothing to help with the UK's economic recovery. Tide's actions need immediate attention from a governing body ASAP. Messing with peoples lives and livelihoods.

Fraudulent transaction!

What a joke this company are!

My card was used by a fraudster to order a Deliveroo(who I don't even have an account for) - upon reporting this Tide really didn't give a damn and kept putting up barriers!

Avoid this company like the plague!

Concerned I'll never get my money back

I've been trying for the past 4 days to withdraw £21k of funds from Tide as my contracting business has ceased trading. They have blocked my access to my own funds under the guise of 'security checks' and have not responded to any of my attempts to contact them. In the almost 3 years I've used Tide I've never seen any additional security measures, yet when I want to withdraw my funds and close my account, they block my ability to do so. Does Tide have cashflow issues? Absolutely terrible, look elsewhere.

I've used Tide bank now for over a year as my main business bank. Be aware, it is very restricted as to what you can do with it. Frustrating that you cant log into your account on line without having your phone app up and running to scan a bar code. Accountants cannot gain access to your account remotely, It is very expensive, despite being marketed and advertised as free! We run a small business and have monthly banking charges of over £10 per month...

Appalling customer service

Tide might have a sleek app, but their customer service is utterly miserable. I had a recall request, because the money were sent to a wrong recipient. The ticket was raised on 28 May, it is 15 July as of the date of this review and my request is far from sorted. A string of long messages (15 and counting) and multiple emails most of which are pleas for Tide to reply at least a word. I even called their premium number out of desperation, where the on call agent promised to alert the team (again!) even though my account is not premium. They missed their own deadline and keep ignoring their customers on top. Think twice before you open an account with Tide, I have migrated to Revolut, Monzo and TransferWise. No support, yet they are in charge of your hard earned cash...

If I could give these guys zero stars I…

If I could give these guys zero stars I would.
I transferred in, then out £4900 pounds, the endless questions I got asked, stuff like prove in writing where that money came from and prove in writing where it went. These stupid people fail to understand that some stuff in life doesn't have written agreements. They ask to prove you have an online presence etc. When you can't answer all questions they suspend accounts and freeze all funds. Then they lie and say it's an FCA requirement to be intrusive.
The FCA do not ask for extreme intrusion, only common sense justification where transaction history can prove validity of funds.
These guys do not like it when funds leave the account due to the fact they use our funds to make money. They actively freeze accounts to keep money in the "pool" to stay afloat.
Keep funds below £500 if you don't have a choice on banking...
Avoid like the plague.

Update: The reply below shows they are using the FCA "requirements" as cover to hide an extreme regiment of financial abuse.

Update 2: I just got falsely accused of being aggressive and violent after I posted this bad review on trustpilot, no such evidence exists for them to stoop to these gutter levels.
This company will try to destroy any customers reputation who challenges them with legal facts.
