At the age of 44, I decided to get back into my love of Karting but I was worried as even in my 20’s I had cracked a few ribs. I was not aware that rib protectors had now been invented for Karting so was pleasantly surprised when I purchased the kart that not only did they supply what they thought was the correct size seat, but also recommended a rib protector (costing about £100).

After parting with many thousands of pounds I felt like I had everything to keep me safe and pain free. However, on my very first day out I managed to crack a rib despite being in what was described as the correct seat and wearing my trusted rib protector. Being a little older it took 4 weeks for the pain to subside enough for a good night’s sleep, and I was worried that my newly reinvigorated Karting hobby was over before it began and I was going to have to sell everything at a loss.

I decided to contact Tillett via the website and it transpires that the owner himself, Steve Tillett, responded to my email. I asked if it was possible to go to the factory to be measured for the correct size seat, and he agreed. Upon arrival I got my original rib protector out the car as I thought this would be required to get the correct fitting. Steve immediately told me I should chuck my rib protector in the bin as it was rubbish; he then explained why it was so bad, and why the Tillett P1 was so much better. Obviously he wanted to sell me something, but his explanation rung bells about why I had broken a rib.

He supplied me a new seat that fitted correctly plus slim fittings and a P1 rib protector. Steve also gave me lots of advice about fitting the seat, set up the rib protector for me and gave me driving techniques to help keep me safe and pain free.

Two weeks later I took the kart to the same circuit. What a complete transformation; I was completely pain free! Yes I paid a little more, but it was worth every penny and I have never been a person who buys cheap things as it’s often a waste of money.
