A great tool and wonderful investment

Such an easy, straightforward process. Great tools for connecting with VAs, assessing and brainstorming tasks to assign, monitoring progress, and channels for communication. I absolutely LOVE their secure portal for sharing account information when you'd like your VA to support you with digital tasks. Makes me so much more confident in the company, process, and potential outcomes. Highly recommend!

Failed to deliver, charged card

I explained that I needed help with a medical-related task. A candidate was provided to me. I spent several hours writing out the task in full detail, to be as helpful to the candidate as possible.

Days later, the candidate said that they could not to medical-related tasks, even though I had requested that up front, and they tried to give me another candidate and make me explain again.

They claimed they had done work—hours—in the first month, even though they had delivered nothing.

EDIT: they refunded my payment after more than an hour dealing with them.

Lots of aggravation and wasted time... but they tried to make it right

UPDATE: Shortly after posting this negative review, a director at Time etc contacted me. She reviewed the account, agreed that there were a lot of problems, apologized, and immediately refunded everything.

That's great to see, and shows they care -- I would honestly be willing to try Time etc again in the future. Like all businesses, I suspect they have some "growing pains" and are struggling to build a team that can consistently deliver great results. It happens, but the folks at the top do seem to really care.

My advice: give them a shot while keeping in mind that they're ultimately an assistant matching service that also handles billing. Don't assume that your match will be great; instead assume they'll be like any other person you'd hire for that role... and they may not even show up to work.

Be prepared to quickly move to the next person, especially if they're a no-show or otherwise don't do their job early on. Also watch your billings, so you don't get hit by that fixed monthly fee while trying to find someone.

Maybe this is all common sense -- but had I done that, I would have not been so disappointed and very likely had a successful experience. Maybe I'll try again later.

In the meantime, I've updated my review to 3-stars and preserved my original experience below.

It seems a lot of people have positive reviews, so I guess I'm just unlucky?

I started by talking to a Time etc salesrep, and I explained exactly what I was looking for. The salesrep suggested I started with a 20H/month plan and charged me about $850 to get started. The rep said that Time etc would match me with candidate within a week.

That worked out... poorly. The first assistant I was matched with was a no-show to FIVE out of SEVEN scheduled meetings. Let me clarify: she no-showed 5 meetings, and only attended 2.

And yes... I realize how foolish that makes me seem. How did I let it get to FIVE no-shows??

Well, the first excuse was a "scheduling error", which happens. The next one was "a family emergency", which also happens. So we scheduled another meeting... and I got another no-show. It was another "emergency" of some kind.

Around this time, I was charged another $850 - but no worries... the hours will apparently over.

I told my "customer happiness" rep that this was unacceptable, especially so early in the relationship. She really encouraged me to give it another go. And besides, Time etc has so many good ratings, so I must be unlucky... right?

We finally had our second successful meeting. I was feeling better and then... you guessed it, no-show four. It was a "medical emergency". We rescheduled, and then I got no-showed again. I didn't bother trying to schedule another meeting.

I really should have quit Time etc then. I reaaaaaly wish I did.

But so many positive reviews, so I must just be unlucky? I was also six weeks and $1700 in (fixed monthly cost, don't forget), and fell into the sunk cost fallacy. My "customer happiness" rep encouraged me to try again, and gave me sime kind of credit I guess. I'm really unlucky, and she would set me up with a *really good* assistant.

My first meeting with the new assistant... want to guess? A no-show! But this time, the "customer happiness" rep took the blame. Scheduling error, or something. And then I was assigned a new "customer happiness" rep. And then charged another $850. Monthly, pre-paid hours after all.

I needed 20H+ a month, but the new assistant seemed to have almost no availability. Although she would show up to most meetings, she wouldn't do the time-sensitive tasks she committed to doing... nor tell me that she was too busy to do them.

It would be days before she'd reply to my emails. I don't mean weekends or holidays - normal weekdays that she told me she'd be available.

A few weeks and yet another $850 charge, and I finally called it quits. And then.... I was then passed to yet another account representative, who would "help me cancel", but ultimately kept pushing to get me set up with another assistant. A "great one" this time.

I asked several times for a refund, but I was offered a credit for more hours. I was just unlucky, after all.

I explained that, I would be mortified if my company delivered such a poor service to a customer, and would promptly refund what they paid and hope I could make it right.

So would every other trustworthy service company. For example, if an Uber driver never showed up or could only drive me 5% of the way to my destination, they would certainly refund me as well. Even though it’s not “their” fault, but their driver’s fault.

Fortunately, everything was paid with credit card - and I've begun the dispute process. That means more wasted time for sure, but hopefully I'll get some of my wasted money back.

[UPDATE] As I mentioned above, Time etc quickly reached out and refunded everything.

I was a member for 1 month

I was a member for 1 month, Well I didn't complete the full month canceled before the time ended.

My goal with getting their service was to find someone that could take over the roll of office assistant. In my mind the tasks were fairly simple, contacting clients about when service will be provided, data entry into spread sheets create new forms to make the systems I have in place better.

What I ended up getting were assistance that did not keep clients updated, or followed up with clients after projects,

I was spending time creating the spread sheets for the assistant and adding the information needed in. So that they could see what was needed while talking to them through zoom, then the assistant would just go off and do their own thing returning data to me in an unorganized manner.

Any forms that needed created I had to get a basic template for them and then it still would take days to get back to me

All together it was the most unorganized and chaotic month in my business since I started the company

Edit Edit Edit

I will add this in. After leaving this review the Louise at Time Ect reached out to me and while the problems I had with the company were not taken care of they did refund my money for the month that I was with them

Not many companies will do this any more and I was truly in shock that they did that.

I will move this review from a 1 start to 3 only because of how the higher levels treat clients.

TimeEtc is a great resource for my small business

TimeEtc is the best investment I've made for my small business. Every time I work with TimeEtc, it's a pleasure. My dedicated assistant is great, and I like the personalized service of my "client happiness team." I really feel like someone always has my back and is as committed to my success as I am.

Updated

I really like and admire Lara Frances' review and how Lara rectified her misquotes when challenged. It makes her comment commendable and very helpful for those new to this sector.

In all honesty, I had forgot that I had applied for this VA opportunity but I received an unsuccessful notification this morning. Time etc informed me I wouldn't be taken forward to the next stage but did suggest alternative freelancer platforms which I thought was helpful until I read the reviews for each one.

In my experience, I felt the questions asked were very long winded. Time etc collate A LOT of personal information. As I progressed through the application it became clear the VA opportunity through time etc is essentially, a high demand job for considerably low pay (11-15ph).

From memory, there was a question along the lines of "How would you feel if a client sent you an immediate task to complete out of normal working hours" That instantly let me know, this may be a toxic opportunity.

As I'm new to the world of freelancing I'm open minded, however, this experience has prompted me to read reviews first as I'm learning something new everyday.

Response to comment:

Hi Barnaby,

Thanks for your reply which I wasn't expecting at all.

Firstly, my initial review isn't negative. I feel it is a balanced summary based on my experience. Apologies if you feel slighted by my commentary.

Please be assured that I am not frustrated, I've moved on, hence why I'm perplexed by your comment. I am solely sharing my experience of your companies application process.

Also, considering you are working with 700 VA's and have a strong trustpilot rating, that highlights that you are running a highly effective company. However, not every candidate has the same experience, and platforms such as trustpilot enables people to share those experiences to help others.

Please see it as constructive feedback.

Take care and all the best,

Giselle

Reply from Time Etc

Hello Giselle,

It's disappointing that you've written a negative review despite never having worked with us or spoken with a member of our team.

I appreciate it can be frustrating to be told that your application to work with a company won't be taken any further.

I don't think your impression of Time etc is representative of who we are as a company.

We take great pride in the flexible nature of the work that we offer and specifically look for people who DON'T want a high demand job but instead want a flexible opportunity to sit beside their life.

We work with more than 700 freelance Virtual Assistants on this basis who enjoy fitting Time etc around their other committments such as childcare, care of relatives or other work opportunities.

Thankfully, the many positive experiences and reviews on Glassdoor from assistant we've worked with should help provide a balanced view.

Yours sincerely,

Barnaby Lashbrooke

PA to my mother!!

I work overseas so difficult for me to help my mother with day to day needs. Georgina has been helping my mother especially with online books and the likes in a patient and diligent manner. My mother now says she couldn't live without her!! My limited interactions with Georgina have been very positive.
