Disappointing experience

Our experience with TTH was extremely disappointing. Eight of us booked Roopkund, only to receive no clear communication about its cancellation until just days before departure, despite repeatedly contacting their team. We switched to Rupin Pass, incurring additional expenses, only to face further itinerary changes and poor communication.

The trek leader was rude and dismissive when we asked reasonable questions about the revised itinerary. The lead guide made the trek equally unpleasant with constant shouting and excessive restrictions on our walking pace. We felt more like a flock of sheep being herded than trekkers enjoying the Himalayas.

We also noticed plastic wrappers along the trail, which was disappointing given the environmental responsibility expected of trekking operators.

To be fair, the food was good and several ground staff members were helpful. However, good hospitality cannot compensate for poor management, disrespectful behaviour and a lack of transparency.

I hope TTH's management takes this feedback seriously and improves its communication, staff training and trail management. We invested considerable time, money and excitement into this trip, and the experience we received fell far short of expectations.

Tth beas kund trek

: Disappointing and poorly managed experience – Beas Kund Trek

I recently did the 4-day Beas Kund trek with Trek The Himalayas, and unfortunately it was one of the most poorly organized treks I’ve experienced.

Day 1 set the tone for the whole trip. The start was delayed for hours with zero communication from the organizers, and we ended up trekking for barely 30 minutes before having to stop. This pushed an unfair load onto Day 2, with no adjustment or acknowledgment from TTH.

Guides were a major problem. Our Day 1 guides left abruptly the next morning with no replacement arranged. It took repeated complaints and pressure from the group before a few guides showed up — and they were clearly inexperienced, with no real grip on the route or trek management.

Food and stay were below acceptable standards. Meals were served very late and were poor in quality. Tents were in bad condition, sleeping bags were wet, and campsites were poorly chosen — some of the worst locations for the night halts.

No accountability. Despite raising concerns repeatedly during the trek, there was no response or resolution from TTH’s team.

For a trek operator charging premium prices, this level of disorganization and disregard for trekker safety and comfort is unacceptable. I would not recommend Trek The Himalayas based on this experience.

⭐ 1/5

⭐ 1/5 – Extremely Disappointing Experience with Trek The Himalayas (Beas Kund Trek)
I recently participated in the Beas Kund Trek organized by Trek The Himalayas (TTH) with a group of 28 members, including several children. Unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations and raised serious concerns about leadership, safety, hygiene, and environmental responsibility.
The trek lacked a competent and enthusiastic trek leader. There was very little guidance, coordination, or proactive support throughout the journey. For a group of this size, especially with children involved, stronger leadership was essential.
The campsites selected for pitching tents were poor and unhygienic. Mule droppings were scattered all around the camping areas, making the surroundings unpleasant and unsuitable for families and kids.
The condition of the tents was extremely disappointing. Many tents appeared old and poorly maintained. Even more concerning, the sleeping bag liners and sleeping bags provided were wet despite freezing night temperatures. This is not just uncomfortable but a serious safety issue in a high-altitude environment.
While the food quality was average overall, repeated requests regarding undercooked rice were ignored. Rice was consistently served hard and half-cooked, reflecting a lack of attention to basic meal preparation and participant feedback.
The most disturbing aspect of the trek was the apparent disregard for environmental responsibility. As responsible trekkers, our group and our children carried back all our non-recyclable waste and even collected additional litter we found along the trail. In contrast, we observed TTH staff disposing of their waste at the campsites instead of carrying it back for proper disposal. Such practices are unacceptable from an organization that operates in ecologically sensitive mountain regions and claims to promote responsible trekking.
Given the issues with leadership, campsite hygiene, equipment quality, food standards, and environmental practices, I cannot recommend this trek experience. I sincerely hope Trek The Himalayas takes these concerns seriously and implements significant improvements to ensure the safety of trekkers and the preservation of the Himalayan environment.

Trek the Himalayas (TTH)

Trek the Himalayas (TTH) – Disappointing Experience on Markha Valley Trek

I had high expectations when I booked the Markha Valley Trek with Trek the Himalayas (TTH). However, my actual experience fell far short of what was promised, and I feel it’s important to share this so fellow trekkers are better informed.

1. No Qualified Trek Leader, Trek Outsourced
Our group was led not by a certified TTH trek leader, but by a local guide. While he was experienced and familiar with the trail, he lacked the leadership role and training TTH had committed to. The trek was clearly outsourced to a freelancer, with no TTH staff member present throughout. This is a serious breach of trust, especially when trekkers pay premium prices expecting safety and guidance.

2. Misinformation & Itinerary Compression
A major issue was the merging of two days of trekking into one, resulting in a 23 km trek day that was physically exhausting and not communicated beforehand. Camping arrangements were changed to homestays, with our agreement, this shift saved TTH operational costs (no mules, cooks, or kitchen staff) but deeply affected trek quality.

3. No Briefings or Safety Protocol Demonstrations
There were no daily briefings, safety instructions, or basic team engagement activities. Not even a formal orientation at the base camp. These are critical components, especially in high-altitude treks.

4. Poor Food Arrangements & No Cook
With no dedicated cook, we were asked to “adjust” to homestay meals. This was not what we paid for.

5. No Summit Day Banner, Excuses & Cover-Ups
On summit day, there was no banner to mark the achievement. We were informed the TTH team “forgot” it, while also being told their actual trek leader never arrived in Leh. This kind of logistical oversight and contradictory responses reflect poor planning and mismanagement.

6. Cancellation Refund Denied Under False Pretenses
One of our participants, had to cancel due to unavoidable security conditions. TTH refused to refund her citing 100% advance payment to local vendors. But ironically, they managed to make last-minute changes to our trek logistics — revealing their inconsistent and profit-driven practices.

7. Value for Money – Not Delivered
TTH claims to charge more than local guides due to the quality and safety they provide. In our case, we got none of the advantages of a professional company, but all the compromises of a cut-rate, locally arranged trek. Ironically, they dropped prices for the same trek soon after, which reflects both poor demand and declining reputation.

Final Thoughts
The mountains are beautiful, and our fellow trekkers helped make the journey worthwhile — but TTH failed on professionalism, transparency, and basic service delivery. I would strongly urge others to clarify in writing who will lead the trek, what arrangements are being made, and what backup support is provided — especially on moderate to high-altitude trails.

A company’s real test is not in sunny conditions, but in how it delivers under challenges. Sadly, TTH failed that test on our trek.
