I am a tutor with 15+ years' experience. I signed up with Tutorful in August and things initially started well. However, this sadly changed. Mid-January, I had a request from a student at university needing urgent help to prepare for an exam resit. As the exam was imminent, I ended up teaching him multiple lessons over a 48 hour period (and also made him bespoke exam practice papers along with many resources to help him pass). A week later, I expected to receive payment but saw on the app: "payment method declined". I felt extremely disappointed by the this, given the level of support I had provided - in fact, utterly scammed - but reassured by Tutorful's "promise" that they would resolve any student payment issues. After all, isn't this one of the major benefits of working on a tutoring platform rather than privately - they will arrange and collect payment? Unfortunately, it turns out not. Despite Tutorful taking a hefty, circa 40%, cut of all my lesson fees, it transpires that they're not willing to step up when the going gets tough at their end. In fact, I have now sent 6 emails to their "customer support team" (plus a couple of other email address I have previously had correspondence with) and am yet to receive a single reply. Tutors - please, please beware. This is not a company I would recommend to anyone. I am currently £100 down, and utterly disappointed with the way I have been treated. Never in my two-decade-long career of teaching and tutoring have I encountered such a shambolic and disappointing set-up; please avoid at all costs.

I’ve been having weekly chemistry tuition with Max for the past few months and can’t recommend him highly enough. As an adult learner, I started with no background in chemistry but since being taught by Max I’ve consistently achieved distinctions.
He has a broad and impressive knowledge of the subject and explains topics in a clear, approachable way. His teaching style combines discussion with exam-style questions, which really helps build confidence and understanding.
Max has gone above and beyond to research my Access course and tailor his teaching to my needs. If you’re an adult learner or studying an Access course, he is an excellent tutor.

They will take your money regardless of the lesson being delivered or not. Very unprofessional and inhuman. Extreamly disappointed with the platform and the tutor who left us hanging for a reply and then refused to reschedule when my child was stuck in traffic and I informed her of the one off delay in her arriving home.

She’s good and teaches according to the student’s understanding.

No issues with the excellent tutors on the platform but I am annoyed with how pushy Tutorful can be. They obviously know you are messaging tutors. If I don’t hear back from a tutor I contacted, Tutorful takes it upon themselves to reach out to potential tutors who I then have to deal with! This needs to stop. I just had a message asking me if I would like a video call with a tutor I contacted and who could not make the session. I have already dealt with her via messages. Maybe other customers appreciate the initiative, but I think it is unprofessional.

I am currently working with Alexandra, and she has been instrumental in developing my academic writing, deepening my understanding of academic literature, and strengthening my ability to accurately integrate theory while critically synthesising ideas. Through her guidance, I am now consistently achieving a grade average of 80%. The skills I have developed with her support extend beyond individual assignments and are ones I carry forward into exams, report writing, and my wider academic and professional journey. I couldn’t recommend her more highly.

My son has been having GCSE English tuition with Alex R for a few weeks now. Alex is kind, patient and explains work well. He makes lessons fun and engaging and I'm positive the extra tuition will result in a good GCSE pass. I would highly recommend him.

The website was easy to navigate and the qualifications of the teachers were clearly set out. This made it easy for us to find the appropriate tutor and we have been lucky to have found a good tutor.

We have a great tutor who is tailoring the lessons to where my son needs the help. We had a video chat before to see how we got on before confirming lessons, went through key areas of concern and lessons were structured around weaker areas. Homework is also given each week, a video to look back on the lesson, and being able to reach out to the tutor via the chat thread ensures perfect communication. I am really impressed with Tutorful and would highly recommend.

This has been a great experience so far. We found the perfect tutor who is excellent at explaining complex content. And the app is very user friendly.

Applications to be a tutor can only be done through the app, including the writing of paragraphs of several hundred/thousand characters. Completely impractical when the service has a website and is best accessed on a computer. Data harvesting?
Very, very, few potential clients that you can apply to teach, usually none per day. And you can't get notifications when one is available, so you have to keep going in and out the app all day like a phone addict.
The very few job offers I've even seen have probably been fake (very unusual names and descriptions). They have also included 1. Somebody saying in the offer that it was a test and not a real offer, 2. Somebody using the tag "French" to ask for a tutor for Arabic, and 3. Someone asking for a freelance translator for a book, which is not only not asking for a tutor, but also a notorious phishing scam.

We’re 5 lessons in and my son is totally understanding what Oliver is teaching him. He hasn’t once complained about the lessons or been negative in any way. Fingers crossed over the next couple of months the lessons will really assist my son in preparing him for his GCSE’s.

I had a small issue during the sign-up process, but the support I received from Tutorful was excellent. Evie from the support team was incredibly kind, patient, and professional throughout the whole process. She kept me informed, reassured me at every step, and handled everything efficiently, even when there was a delay with a reference email.
Thanks to her help, my profile is now live and I’m ready to start tutoring. The customer service genuinely made a difference and showed that Tutorful really cares about its users’ experience. I truly appreciate the time and effort they put into resolving my issue.
Highly recommended platform with outstanding customer support!
