Looking at 60 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall, citing a very disappointing visit. Visitors felt that ticket and food prices were extremely high, while a large number of enclosures appeared completely empty or neglected. People also mentioned that the general facilities looked dirty, and long queues formed due to a clear lack of staff. A great day had by all, made special by guest services

My friend & I tool our kids to Twycross Zoo today at the busiest time possible, but we still has a great time. All the staff we encountered were incredibly helpful even under pressure & a long hot working day. Our kids saw loads of animals despite the heat & cooled off in the splash park afterwards. They loved it!

A special mention to the two guys from guest services who deserve a mention for being exceptionally kind & helpful when my truck broke down right at closing time. Not just to me, but my 8 yr old son who was getting upset. Thank you so much for time, compassion & kindness. We're already planning our return at Halloween as the kids had such a great time. It feels expensive at the time but with a year long pass to Twycross we'll definitely see the value over the coming months. Thanks for a great day out.

Gorilla accommodation is poor

Overall, a good day. I was, however, concerned at the size and condition of the gorilla enclosure. The outside paddock was considerably smaller than that for the bonobos for example and the inside seemed very cramped with lots of faeces and urine on the floor. Please consider giving them an upgrade.

Diabolical

Diabolical
Visited today for me daughters 3rd birthday as a family of 4, completely ruined her birthday.
We seen roughly 3 different animals, she was super excited to see a tiger.. nowhere to be seen. Leopard? Nowhere to be seen.. we basically forked out a lot of money to see some wild pigeons.
A lot of the enclosures are overgrown with stingers and smell awful.
Won’t be using the free return again absolute waste of money, waste of a day and a ruined birthday.
Don’t waste your money.

absolute waste of money

arrived at 9am as they opened , at 10am 3 items on menu in costa , we were told were sold out ? no one clearing tables , doughnut shop not open at all , no where to sit for elderly or mums with kids in between long walks to each area , apart from the eating areas , 2 rhino in doors disgusting smell & filth , indoor apes had plenty to climb on but no shrubs or anything to make the enclosure interesting , everywhere you looked was dirty , & unkept , very few animals to be seen , all enclosures needed cleaning & maintenance , whole place needs shutting down , refurbish , or better still , build houses on the site .

AWFUL!!!!

Twycross Zoo continues to be the world’s most ambitious game of hide and seek. On our various visits, the closest wildlife encounter has been a rhino’s backside from about 60 feet away and a giraffe having lunch somewhere in the distance. The bird enclosure is impressive too, assuming you enjoy looking at birds silhouetted against the roof while they sit several storeys above the public, they have the cheek to fool people into buying bird food knowing the birds don’t come down to eat it.

A surprising number of enclosures always seem to be closed or mysteriously unoccupied, which adds an element of suspense to the day: “Will there be animals in this one?” The answer is often no.

On our latest visit, the itinerary advertised a penguin feed and talk. Plenty of families gathered at the enclosure, full of excitement, only for nobody to appear. After about 30 minutes of waiting with increasingly restless children.

The food prices deserve a mention too. The chips were so expensive that the phrase “cheap as chips” may need to be officially retired. And charging separately for parking after already paying for zoo entry feels a bit cheeky.

We only keep returning because it’s 15 minutes from home and we’re lucky enough to have annual passes gifted by family. If we had to pay full price every time, we’d probably spend the money on a safari documentary instead.

Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Awful experience today at Twycross Zoo

Awful experience today at Twycross Zoo, all that was on show was empty enclosures, where are all the animals ? Appreciate the heat and they maybe sheltering, but there still should be areas to view them, just nothing to see and for the cost worst set up and Zoo ever been to.

Expensive & Disappointing

Many empty enclosures, no aquatics, toilet and baby changing terrible, seems run down and not worth the £60 for 2 adults and one baby, no choice with annual pass (day pass not an option) staff were not friendly or helpful, didn’t even have ice cream available! Will not be returning, very disappointed

This zoo doesn’t have any animals!

This zoo doesn’t have any animals. Only thing we saw was pigeons. Every enclosure is empty. Whole place is run down and dirty. Staff were lovely and friendly but there was only about 3 of them in the entire zoo.

Honestly, utter garbage.

It was absolutely appalling

It was absolutely appalling. We expected to see animals but managed to see a few. Not what I remembered from years ago. No gorilla, no show.
Most of the animals which isn't their fault were hiding. I expected to see giraffes in an open area but they were in a building same as the rhinos. I really felt for them, surely they should be outside. A lot of money for a little. Much better value at West Midlands safari park.
Food was extortionate. Never again.

Very disappointed with all aspects

I visited the zoo a few days ago with my daughter, son in law and my three grandchildren, so you can imagine how much it cost, and on top of that you have to pay to park your car!, but however we can come back within a year as many times as we want to but……… we never will.
The enclosures were very overgrown( ok I understand that the animals need privacy) but it was impossible to see many of them no matter all the different times we revisited. The condition of the parrots was awful, ok if they are going through a bad moult shouldn’t they be moved and cared for and brought back into the zoo when they are in better condition? The layout made no sense at all they need a yellow brick road so it’s made easier to navigate. The walk ways were very untidy ( weeds everywhere it should be nicely planted especially this time of year. The staff especially in with the goats pens seemed to us that we were an inconvenience! The toilets were dirty ( not just from that day) in general they need a good clean and a lick of paint. The restaurants were very untidy, we couldn’t find a clean table and the cost of the food was ridiculous, the floors were very dirty. We bought a pack lunch with us but we did buy drinks for six of us the children had hot chocolate over £4 each! Overall a very disappointing day. Just one good thing the ice cream near the water park was lovely. When we used to take our daughter to this zoo (ok a long time ago) it was wonderful. I honestly thought that it would be even better now, how wrong can you be! Come on Twycross Zoo you can do better than this!,

I was very disappointed with my visit…

I was very disappointed with my visit to the zoo. There were several empty enclosures and very few animals visible throughout the day. It felt like there was little to see, which made the experience poor value for money. I had been looking forward to the visit, but unfortunately it did not meet expectations. Based on this experience, I won't be returning and would not recommend it to others looking for a good day out.

Day trip

Visited Twycross zoo today with the family , despite the rain it was a very good day out ,
We purchased the red ruff experience and afternoon tea and it was amazing, the staff member explained in detail a lot information an we got to see the primates up close ,

All the staff were very happy smiles all around and more than happy to help out or answer any questions ,

The facility's were clean and tidy and the afternoon tea we had was amazing , the veggie spiced chick pea wrap was top notch ,
All in all a very good day out ignore the negative reviews as we have visited this zoo 5 times and it’s brilliant 👍.

Worst zoo in the uk?

Visited Twycross Zoo recently and honestly it was one of the most disappointing attractions I’ve ever been to. The whole place felt dirty and run down, with large areas looking completely unkept. A lot of the park and enclosures seemed closed off or empty, which made the ticket price feel even worse value for money. Many of the animals looked unhealthy or just generally miserable, and there were barely any staff around compared to other zoos we’ve visited.

The layout also made no sense you walk all the way across the park only to see the same type of animal repeated again elsewhere. Most enclosures only had a single animal in them which made the whole experience feel depressing. Some of the enclosures are also right next to the main road and you could constantly hear traffic noise. It definitely seemed to be affecting some of the animals, who already appeared stressed or withdrawn.

Even the café area matched the rest of the experience. Tables were left covered in dirty trays, bins were overflowing, and the whole place just felt poorly maintained and understaffed. The food selection itself was also very limited and unappealing.

The atmosphere throughout the zoo genuinely felt bleak, almost like some old Soviet Union prison camp rather than a family attraction. It honestly doesn’t surprise me they offer a free return within a year because I can’t imagine many people wanting to come back after one visit. Overall, a very depressing and disappointing day out and definitely not somewhere I’d recommend over other UK zoos.

Disappointing

Disappointing.
Over-priced, under-resourced. Queues for everything and not enough staff to serve the number of visitors.
Not many chimps.
It was more frustrating than fun.
Really rubbish idea to have the play zone as soon as you walk in. That became our grandson's focus straight away. Couldn't book a slot even though had bought the premium membership online and when asked staff to help they said they couldn't. Ridiculous.
I only hope that the majority of the.membership price goes towards keeping the animals safe and happy. Unlikely to return unless it improves. Such a shame as I have good memories of visiting when I was younger.

Absolute Disgrace

Absolute Disgrace – 1/5. Do NOT waste your money.
This is hands-down the worst zoo I have ever had the misfortune of visiting. A complete rip-off from start to finish. Dirty, tired, and shockingly rundown, with barely any animals actually visible. We queued for ages only to be greeted by empty enclosures and sad-looking cages with nothing inside.
Most of the so-called "attractions" were closed, out of order, or simply abandoned. The few animals we did see looked miserable, and I’m still convinced several were plastic models — they didn’t move a muscle the entire time. After just one hour, my child was in tears, literally begging to leave.
£50 per ticket plus £40 for parking for this utter joke of a place is criminal. The whole experience felt like a badly run council car boot sale that somehow got mistaken for a zoo.
Save your time, save your money, and go literally anywhere else. Twycross Zoo is a total embarrassment. I wouldn’t go back even if they paid me.

Zookeeper Experience Day

We were treated to a Zookeeper experience day by our son for our birthdays.
We had an absolutely amazing time, thanks to all the staff and zookeepers who were friendly and extremely dedicated to the animals they look after.
They all went into great detail of their respective species and having the hands on experience was brilliant.
All the animals are extremely well cared for and look as such, also having privacy options when they feel the need.
The food we had was excellent and all the facilities were very clean and tidy.
Thank you for our gifts at the end and for a wonderful birthday experience, definitely one to remember.
Kind regards
Gerry & Tracey.

Plenty of issues. Car parking is a trap!

Very reflective glasses, preventing one from seeing the animals.
Weird booking policy, even with an annual membership.
And you'll get parking tickets in a dedicated car park for the zoo, even though you have a membership. Lovely!!

Took my money but no booking

I tried to book online but got an error message saying it hadn't been made also there was no email confirmation. Yes, I checked my junk mail. There is no phone number so I messaged them twice and got no reply. They have charged my credit card so I have no option but to complain to my bank and apologise to a very upset child.
