Horrible

Horrible website! I'm doing the "coding essentials" bit right now and it explains NOTHING, at least barely anything! My mother could explain it better, and she doesn't even work with code!

Terrible for its purpose

Pros:
- Visual aid when typing in case you forget finger positioning.
- Each level slowly adapts to your weaknesses and helps you train. Slightly.

Cons:
- No auto-log in feature, frustrating to have to log in every time (cookies are a thing).
- Poor UI control, once you begin a section you cannot choose to redo or go back to an exercise until you finish the one you have.
- Exercises tend to not really help to type faster, they're more of a repetitive nuisance than anything. WPM doesn't really get better. Other sites help me more, especially the ones with Monkeys.
- Making any typing mistakes is awful. Make one? The cursor will move to the next character. Get that one wrong too? It wont continue. This severely impacts your ability to actually increase speed and learn from your mistakes.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience with our site.

-No auto-log in feature, frustrating to have to log in every time (cookies are a thing): Typing.com supports SSO. If you have a Gmail account or a MS Teams account you'll be able to log in with just a click. Also, your browser lets you save your username and password. That way you don't have to type your username and password whenever you need to log in. And finally, we don't keep accounts logged in for security reasons since typing.com is mostly used in schools and we don't want students to mess around with accounts that are not theirs.

-Poor UI control, once you begin a section you cannot choose to redo or go back to an exercise until you finish the one you have: That's wrong. Typing.com allows you to redo a completed lessons as many times as you want. You can also go back to an exercise that you already completed at any time. Please email us at support@typing.com and we'll be happy to walk you through the site.

-Exercises tend to not really help to type faster, they're more of a repetitive nuisance than anything. WPM doesn't really get better. Other sites help me more, especially the ones with Monkeys: I'm sorry to hear that. Please email us at support@typing.com and we'll be happy to walk you through the site and give you tips on how to improve your typing skills.

-Making any typing mistakes is awful. Make one? The cursor will move to the next character. Get that one wrong too? It wont continue. This severely impacts your ability to actually increase speed and learn from your mistakes: That's how the site is suppoused to work and it behaves like that because we want you to make sure (after the second error) that you place your hands properly on the keyboard.

This is an absolutely fantastic free…

This is an absolutely fantastic free resource. Having done a lot of research into websites that teach touch typing, this is hands down the best one that I have come across. It is better than the websites/ courses that you have to pay for!!! It is suitable for all ages (you can select from Reception all the way through secondary school and to adult). I would thoroughly recommend this website for any child or adult wanting to learn how to touch type. It has been invaluable in helping my child learn how to touch type. Thank you typing.com !!

Wonderful Program!

I'm an experienced typist but need to build my speed. There are lessons that will teach each letter, number, and hand placement. I do the mid to advanced levels. They're smooth and really helpful. The system even tracks what letters you are hindering you. Your speed is always provided, so you can watch it get faster.

Absolute garbage. After the 5 minute typing test, it forces you to sign up in order to view the results. Cheap & immature.

Hi Abhinav,

If you complete one of the typing tests, you will be able to see the results as soon as you finish the test, however, you will have to create an account if you want to get a certificate. If you need more information, please email support@typing.com.

dont waste your time

I was hopeful this would get me off of being a hunt and peck typist.Alas this is another site that uses so many ads that it slows the site down to unusable. I get you need to make your bottom line but the site doesn't even do as promised. I cant get through the first lesson because every time it freezes , then catches up and doesn't register what I typed. Couldn't even make it to a 15 minute goal.

Dislike the features when syncing with clever!

I have a huge list of classes that I sync through Clever. I would love to be able to add or delete kids and be able to change class names! I have a t least 4 classes that are all named the same thing so I have to look at the number of students and in a couple classes they also have the same number a nightmare to ensure opening of the correct class the first time!

Hi Amber,
Clever accounts are synced nightly based upon the data shared with Clever for Typing.com. When Clever syncs with Typing.com, accounts are created and linked to teacher accounts that have been set according to the data your district has shared. To make changes to your classes or students (add/remove students, add co-teachers, change the name of a class, etc) you need to make the changes in Clever first, and then you need to wait for your typing.com teacher account to re-sync overnight.
If you need more information you can send us an email at support@typing.com.

So Helpful!

I recently had an issue with one of the lessons. My students were unable to get past a certain line because their keyboards wouldn't type the (') symbol. I contacted customer service and had a response very quickly. The information provided quickly fixed the problem. Very helpful!

It can be so annoying

It can be so annoying. When one types a wrong letter, the wrong letter you typed will get red and dangles down. And the same kind of activity can be redone so many times
