This is a solid heavy duty machine that has a massive jaw width and a tonne of clamping force, so if you get your fingers in the way there is going to be serious damage. You operate this machine standing on one leg with your other foot on the pedal, so when you are pressing down on the pedal you cannot stop the momentum easily, hence my warning. I have some missgivings about the build quality, firstly, I would like to see a much stronger retaining spring on the four tooth clamping mechanism and case hardened slotted drive. The reversible slotted drive arm comes in full paint which flakes off from use which can foul the drive mech if not cleaned, and the deflection in the horizontal plane when clamping wide objects tends to lift the drive slots away from the drive teeth. Used with care, an excellent tool that gives you two free hands when clamping more awkward jobs into position. I have seen other seemingly identical products on the market which are slightly cheaper but I would not go there because Ryobi, to my mind has the best warranty policy on its products.
