Amazing opportunity to partake in the Training Contract applications masterclass! Unique chance to get some 1-to-1 feedback and advice on previous applications. Going through successful and unsuccessful applications and breaking down why was also an invaluable element of the session. Thanks!

Most of the information was public and I knew it from other people’s posts in the social media.
The one-to-one session was not very helpful due to the short time and I didn't get an answer to my question.
I had different expectations as to when the masterclass sessions we're advertised I got the impression that we will have a longer one-to-one session and I will be able to get more detailed help and information about my own CV and Cover letter
Great session
Great session, well organised and very informative with plenty of examples given for everything. Would suggest allowing for additional short breaks.

In bad taste
I just attended a free webinar hosted by UniLaw on the 'Secrets to Securing a Training Contract'. While the majority of the panel were lovely and offered many insightful tips and suggestions, this was all seriously let down by Virginia, the webinar's host and founder of UniLaw, whose distasteful elitist comments left a bad taste in my mouth.
Despite Virginia stating numerous times that there wasn't "enough time to go into too much detail", there certainly was enough time to plug UniLaw's over-priced masterclasses numerous times. When addressing the comments in the chat box regarding how expensive the masterclasses were, instead of tactfully and humbly admitting that the price wouldn't suit everyone and leaving it at that, she proceeded to state that we should see it as an "investment" into our career, and that if we weren't willing to invest, then a career in commercial law "isn't for you". While I appreciate that "investment" can mean more than just money (i.e. time, or energy), these comments were made in direct relation to the price of the masterclasses, so I see no way how this could have been misinterpreted.
Further comments such as "you've probably spent more on your ASOS online shop during quarantine (than the price of the masterclass)" were incredibly unprofessional, generalising, and distasteful. It is comments like these that only serve to perpetuate the idea that a commercial law career only caters to those who have the money to "invest" in it.
Whilst I have no doubt that the tutors, trainees, lawyers, and legal recruiters who contribute to the masterclasses offer insightful advice that may well help you to secure a training contract, the idea of giving money to a company whose founder is so tone-deaf should be a word of warning to those interested.
Absolutely useless
Absolutely useless. Virginia told multiple fake lies, everything is overpriced and all the workshops offered are overpriced and useless. "the tops firms only hire from Oxbridge" is rubbish. And the fact that Virginia kept advocating that work experience is necessary is also not true. Many of the top Russell groups don't require work experience at all. Moreover, it just seems like Virginia is in it just for the money! Poor experience & would not reccomend.

I found the webinar experience very beneficial and left it feeling more knowledgeable then I was when I first joined it. I now know what I could actively be doing to ensure that my personal statement differentiates me from other law candidates.

How to write a Personal statement - review: excellent
I found this webinar extremely useful as it gave me a much more detailed insight on what I should and should not include in my personal statement, whilst I had only gotten limited information about how to write a personal statement from my school. I was very glad that the host Virginia was highly responsive to our questions and gave us useful advice to see us through the continuation of drafting our personal statement. Very good time well spent !
