Unilux Windows Fixed

We moved into our new home in January and we found a couple of issues with our windows, not operating properly. I managed to track down the Company, Unilux, who are German. They kindly put me in touch with Fraser Robbie, who, along with Adam Winstanley, diverted en route from Scotland to Cambridge, to our home. Both, lovely gents, wasted no time in successfully diagnosing and fixing all of our issues, before heading on to their Sales meeting in Cambridge. We all had a great conversation whilst Robbie (who is the Head Honcho at Unilux UK by the way!) worked away at our windows. Unilux provide German quality solid built windows and doors and we cannot praise them highly enough, for dropping in on us, complete strangers to their Company and merrily fixing our issues. Thanks chaps.

Superior and competitively priced windows

Superior and competitively priced quality windows compared to what we could find on the Australian market. We had little hesitation to choosing triple glazing over double glazing due to the pricing. Absolutely the best value component of our build. Responsive, proactive, insightful and helpful communication from Stuart. Assistance provided though entire process including installation and post instalment care. Would absolutely recommend to family and friends.

New Tasmanian house

Our newly built home in Northern Tasmania is fitted with Unilux triple glazed windows and external doors. We are very happy with the product. The installation by our builder could have been better, as one door leaked air, and it and another French door were hard to push open. Stuart, the Tasmanian representative, responded to our questions by visiting us, fixing the doors and showing us how to adjust the hinges.

A number of things but crucially the work of Robert Frazer, Sales Rep Uk and Ireland. He was so helpful in relation to our queries regarding all aspects for windows and doors that would be best for our proposed passive house new build in Derry Northern Ireland. Then when Patrick Fellis took on the dealership Robert still supported both him and us.
He came to our site at the early stage of the build and visited us bringing thoughtful gifts.
He subsequently came to help with and supervise the installation of the sliding door and took us to dinner.
His communication and warm open personality is exceptional.
Patrick Fellis installed the windows in the prefabricated timber walls for the house. All this was done in his workshop and the delivery to the site though challenging and executed really well.
Our windows and doors are triple glazed aluclad and Passive House Standard. We are very pleased customers and hope our windows and doors will stand the test of time. We ish to highly recommend the manufacturer, sales, and installation personnel. Mary and Sophie

Ten years living with Unilux glass

We built our new home near Hobart in Tasmania and moved in almost ten years ago. This is a solar passive design with NATHERS rating of 9.2 stars. We have a lot of large windows on the north and east (total ~70 sq.m) and another ~10 sq.m on the south and west. It is all Uniux triple glazing with aluminium external skin and timber frames.

Back then, triple glazing was not available in the NATHERS energy model. The modelling by eValuate (Paul Kleywegt) indicated that triple glazing improved our star rating by about 0.5 stars compared to double glazing (which would take our rating to 9.7 stars).

When we ordered the windows, the exchange rate was very good for us and we saved ~$50k compared to double glazed windows from Victoria. The windows arrived a couple of months before they were installed by the team at Glass Supplies in Moonah. Everything went to plan. We have had no problems with the windows or with the large sliding door. One of our hinged doors is a bit finicky to unlock, but not enough for us to want to repair.

About 5 years ago, thermal imaging indicated that some of the seals on the tilt-turn windows had lost some air tightness, possibly due to movement in our all-timber house. Our local agent, Stuart, sent me some instruction on how to adjust the windows and I was able restore the seals by myself in less than 2 hours.

Although it is not self-cleaning glass, the windows stay remarkably clean. This has been an unexpected bonus. We had them cleaned once by a professional about 6 years ago. Since then I have been cleaning them by myself about twice per year using an extension pole with water an a drop of detergent followed by a hose-off. Additional spot cleaning is sometimes needed for bird poo. I prefer to clean on overcast days so that the glass has time to drain before it dries - that brings them back to as good as new.

Last year the mosquitoes returned after the drought broke, so we ordered Unilux insect screens for our tilt-turn windows. That order arrived a later than expected, but was still here in time for the start of Spring. (We normally keep the tilt-turn windows closed through winter.) Stuart and I worked together to install the insect screens, which took about an hour.

In contrast to many of the reviews here, our experience with the Unilux glazing has been very positive and our local agent Stuart has been very responsive. Cannot think of a reason to deduct a star. I strongly recommend the Unilux triple glazing, especially if you have a large area of glass or if you live in a cold part of the world.

Supreme Triple Glazed Tasmanian Windows

I am elated with my Unilux purchase as the windows and doors have performed flawlessly since 2014. My house in Tasmania is so impressively warm that I can wear a tank top all year around. The attentive after sales service has been impeccable as Stuart, the sales representative, has gone above and beyond to ensure both the design and installation were achieved with ease. I will definitely be purchasing Unilux again for my next house build.

Tasmanian experience, 5 star

International importing of big heavy triple glazed windows isn't an easy job. Measurements and specifications need to be spot on, but then there lots of other people involved in their successful installation. Stuart has the benefit of not only being extremely familiar with the product, but as an architect, he generously gave us very helpful pointers to consider regarding our windows. We were lucky that our builder was also very thorough, so we didn't need any replacements or repairs. Our door did get a bit "sticky" at some point, but our old timber house also moves a bit - to his credit Stuart came out promptly to tune it for us, which compelled us to write this review. I feel bad that his business reputation is linked to the actions of other reps overseas. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to get triple glazed windows at prices comparable to our locally manufactured double glazed alternatives. It might be different elsewhere in the world, but for us it has made a big thermal performance difference. Thanks again Stuart.

We purchased Unilux windows for a new build

We purchased Unilux windows for a new build in Tasmania, Australia. The product is great, the service is terrible. Our builder damaged the frame of a large sliding door, and the sales rep took over a year to decide on a replacement or repair. By this time, our building insurance was no longer available and we are left with a door that will never seal closed. Our sales rep also never gave us the plugs for the external side of the windows.

DO NOT BUY FROM UNILUX NON COMPLIANT WITH UK SAFETY REGULATIONS

Be warned non-compliance with UK standards. Absolutely at my wits end with this company sun room built with their glazing system. Originally corner glazed unit not sealed properly by Robbie their only contact in UK and had to wait nearly 2 months for him to come out. The centre pane of triple glazed unit shattered without explanation - within warranty period wouldn’t do anything about it. Wouldn’t speak to me directly as the order was through my builders. Reluctantly my builder paid £1k deposit to order new pane as it was supposed to be my babies playroom still no glass and no refund in deposit. The first pane shattered over 12 months ago since then another 2 panes have cracked - got an external glazing expert to look at glass and they did not provide what was ordered thickness was wrong and what is most concerning is the other two panes actually cracked not like safety glass - it should have been toughened glass due to the size and to comply with UK regulations which is what was ordered but their response now is that someone signed for the order it’s not their fault if the wrong glass was supplied. My son is now 17 months old and this originally became an issue when he was only 4 months. They did say they would replace for free two or three times as still under warranty but have now totally retracted and still have £1k deposit my builder paid. If I could I would attach images / video to this review. I only wish I read their reviews prior to ordering with them and I normally always do but I was recommended by my architect to use them and had no reason to doubt his recommendation. I don’t think this review is going to help me but I want to warn anyone else thinking of buying from unilux - DON’T!!

No customer service / Kein Kundenservices

The blinds in our Unilux windows have broken and we wanted a replacement. The company who installed our windows sadly no longer exists, so we got directly in contact with Unilux Germany for a replacement blind, to no avail. We also tried to go via their UK salesperson, an unfriendly Scottish chap. Nothing. Just silence is all you get.
They have nice windows, but catastrophic customer service. We would never ever buy Unilux windows again. So, if you think of buying their windows, do not. You will regret it.

Based in Oxfordshire, I spent +56k on Unilux windows & slide tilt doors on a new self-build.

PLEASE think and look at other other brands. The UK company we brought the products from went into administration. I tried finding other UK Unilux dealers in England, just none.

Chasing to get a warranty site visit to fix issues. during which time I had to tape up the slide & tilt large doors as letting in so much outside air. In the winter months, our kitchen was freezing with the heating on constantly.
I even tried to call German HQ and e-mailed, and again, there was a non-existent response. The German HQ just does not get customer care.
Handles failed, slide tilt doors are not good enough to use daily we have 4 and each one has opening & closing issues. It still took over a year to get site attendance and then after having to buy replacement parts which were then changed under warranty !

Finally, one helpful chap based in Scotland travelled down to look into the issues..so well done, Robbie for making the effort and traveling so far. Has also attended again to fix the slide & tilt opening door. The only real answer is to replace it !

Do not buy a slide & ilt large door, overall windows have been ok Of the 20 windows I brought, handles sometime stick - a motorised built in blind window, one slide failed after a few weeks where the delicate connector pins failed and no solution provided, so I only have one side working..even today.

Think about challenging and getting proof of aftercare team before buying. Consider another brand simply not enough dealers, support staff in the UK to deliver a customer service for such a big investment.

Unilux disaster... avoid at all costs!

I purchased Unilux (Weru) doors and windows a number of years ago to be installed in a new build passive house. I looked at many different suppliers and unfortunately I made one of the worst decisions of my life to go with Unilux. Years on they have not honoured the guarantee, the sliding doors do not open properly, there are massive gaps that allow air to freely flow into the passive house, one door is too heavy for the hinges and the front door does not close properly. The whole installation is a disaster. I tried for years to get them to honour the guarantee just to get things put right, but they eventually sent me a solicitors letter saying they would not enter into any further communications. I tried using the UK European Consumer Centre. They investigated the situation and ultimately advised there was nothing that I could do if Unilux would not honour the guarantee as they were not covered by UK law. Be vary wary when buying from German companies and avoid Unilux at all costs!

Unilux wont take responsibility for faulty windows

Interesting to see all these poor reviews regarding Unilux and their inability to put things right for their customers. We had new sliding doors and windows put in a new build in West Wittering in 2017 and from the start we had problems with the mechanics of the sliding doors. They are incredibly heavy to open, virtually need two people to help open them and 3 of them leak. Unilux did come out to survey but nothing was ever resolved between them and the architect/builder. Neither wanted to take responsibility and yet at the end of the day we have paid huge sums of money for brand new windows that do not work. I agree with previous comments that it is a sorry state of affairs that they seem unable to put right their wrongs. Before anyone from Unilux replies to say they will sort it. Our order confirmation was 4516389 dated 7.12.15. We paid for these windows up front 8 months before they were even delivered and then they were left in our garden not in the new build. 6 years down the line and still no resolution.

We are a main contractor who employed a reputable window contractor to undertake a Unilux window installation on a beautiful house in Lymington, UK

Well there has been a slip up with things turning up wrong. Ok we are all human and occasionally mistakes happen! But if there are mistakes surely Unilux would be doing what companys should do, put it right???

Come on Unilux it shouldn't be that the subcontractor, main contractor and client have to go to this extent to get a response.

Please can we have input to sort the windows. Also if a sash is manufactured and it is split. That should be a straight forward replacement not a repair kit sent out. These are not cheap windows?

Happy to change the review if we can have input to get the issues sort.

Let hope we can get a response???......... it shouldn't take approximately 10 months to get windows and have issues sorted out!

Back in late 2018 received my windows/doors. The windows were crated very tightly. Nice. Knowing I would not be ready for them for several months along with the snow storm approaching I simply counted the visible frames and signed off on their paperwork. 10 months later I unwrapped my windows to find there were no screens on any window. Guess what.... Unilux tells me I signed the papers, they owe me nothing. $22k American dollars spent, pictures showing the two crates I offloaded from the truck and they won't even tell me if the screens usually are assembled on the window or if the screens are usually packaged separately. Of course they are willing to take more money from me and quote screens with shipping to USA.

Hoping that Unilux will respond.

Hoping that Unilux will respond.
What a strange outfit. They don’t seem to do customer service, like another reviewer reported. More like a bloke in a shed rather than a subsidiary of Weru, a flagship German company and massive quality window supplier.
Something started going wrong on our contract quite early despite our main contractor using an excellent glazing firm who in turn bought from Unilux Germany. We signed off the drawings and what turned up was the wrong colour, had glazing bars where we didn’t want them and there is a crack in one of the frames. A nice product otherwise. These are expensive windows on a lovely house.
These were all installed because they were late anyway and an immediate complaint put in 6 weeks before lockdown. Let’s not get distracted with the virus. Something has gone wrong and in a web world, you can’t afford to have unhappy customers moaning on. You get in and sort out what is wrong. If it turns out it isn’t your fault, you get somebody else to take responsibility. We are living with butchered windows which isn’t any good on a 50K contract where we had wanted Nordan anyway. I am told that the correct windows were ordered. We were persuaded that Unilux were the boys. I am totally underwhelmed with the sales model where UK glaziers buy from Germany. Maybe Weru UK as the supplier would be a different experience. Probably.
Watch this space. Will they respond or not? We aren’t going away in a hurry.

Appaling after sales service - warranty issue.

Unilux/Weru manufacture doors and windows which are sold as premium quality products with a 10 year warranty, they also have a premium price tag. Unfortunately Unilux/Weru do not offer a premium after sales experience!!

I bought doors and windows from Unilux, something I now regret as one of the doors has developed a fault with the locking mechanism. Unilux no longer has agents in my area and under European Law it falls back to the manufacturer to sort out such issues. Despite weeks having passed and numerous emails and phone calls to Unilux/Weru I am no further forward. My emails are now being ignored. There is little point in advertising a warranty if the company will not honour it, something I will be making the German and EU authorities (European Consumer Centre)aware of.

My recommendation to anyone looking for doors and windows is to shop around, there are plenty of suppliers of quality products and good customer service out there at similar or cheaper prices than offered by Unilux/Weru.

A quick update on this, below you'll see Unixlux/Weru contacted me and asked for details which I provided. I've not heard anything more from them so I think this attempt to contact was simply to give TrustPilot readers the illusion that they were acting on complaints. The doors continue to be faulty, basically I'm now too scared to open them in case they won't shut again.

Update November 2024
Absolutely no contact from Unilux. Other doors and windows are now also failing. There is a spring loaded latch that prevents the locking bolts engaging when open that has failed on multiple doors ands windows. If you close the window with the bolts engaged it wreck the window, very easy to do. Clearly this is a design fault as it's not restricted to a single window. One of the windows has also started to sag and catches when opening and closing.

I hope this review helps other avoid a very expensive mistake.
