Good experience in Afghanistan.

I took a 10 day (individual) tour with Unique Afghanistan during the Christmas / New Year period 2025/6, and I’d certainly recommend the company.

I particularly liked the way that they flexibly designed an itinerary to fit with what I asked for and was interested in, rather than just trying to sell me the same trip that may be typically done. I particularly wanted to see some of the more ancient sites (as well as more modern sights) and I didn’t want to run around the country frantically trying to see “everything”. Unique Afghanistan are obviously very knowledgeable about the country and did a great job of putting together a trip which really suited me.

All of the arrangements were clear and worked out very well. I had a tremendous guide and driver, which all made for an excellent trip.

Whilst I’m sure that Afghanistan can be a bit more unpredictable than many countries, Unique Afghanistan, and my guide, obviously had visitor safety as a priority. This was in part shown by their familiarity with, and ability to navigate, the necessary bureaucracy. It is important to comply with all of the authorities’ requirements, and consequently everything went very smoothly. I was happy to take the company’s obviously informed advice regarding where to visit and where it could be unwise to go.

I found Afghanistan to be an incredibly friendly country, and very much valued the opportunity to meet quite a number of Afghans. A number of people said how happy they were that I was visiting the country.

As well as some beautiful mosques and palaces from more modern times, I was able to visit some truly fascinating ancient sites, redolent with historical atmosphere (broadly in the Mazar area). Afghanistan has a particularly rich ancient history dating back to the Bronze Age. In fact, it was a principal source of the tin needed for that bronze which, together with its important place on the later Silk Road and other factors, all contribute to an incredible, and often unappreciated, history. It was an unforgettable experience to be able to visit some of it.

All the accommodation arrangements were great and I loved the food!

One point to note is the Unique Afghanistan were very good at communicating with me, both by email and by WhatsApp. Several other companies that I sent questions to didn’t do very well in this area.

All in all, I definitely recommend Unique Afghanistan. I do think that if you’re going to Afghanistan, you really do need to go with a reliable company who knows what they’re doing.
