V&A Homes (and especially Victoria) are fantastic!

V&A Homes (and especially Victoria) are fantastic. The design, built quality and finish are great. When it came to the inevitable snagging list of a new build, the after sales service and attention to detail was second to none. I cannot recommend them more highly.

Amazing Kerb Appeal.....

Amazing Kerb Appeal.....
When we first saw the properties being built, we know exactly the one we wanted to buy, moving during Covid from Scriven Village to Scotton Village, we could have carried our furniture!
It was a real challenge negotiating the move, however, Victoria the 'V' in V&A made it happen!
The houses are beautifully designed with charm and kerb appeal, the team have a real eye for detail and use quality products, not just on the Scotton build, but on all their projects. We were able to help design and choose the interior, which is important when buying a new property, nothing was ever too much trouble for V&A in helping make the house a beautiful home. We thoroughly loved working with the team and have made friends for life.
Thank you V&A especially the V

Waterside living

We took the decision to downsize whilst staying in the area. We had been watching the Waterside development take shape from the start and had heard good things about V&A Homes from another development in Scotton. We loved the location and design of the properties. Whilst we were keen to purchase a specific plot, it had already been reserved very early by another family, we therefore went for another plot.
All of this was unfortunately during Covid and the knock on effects of Brexit so there were significant delays in the supply of building materials across the UK.

Throughout this process V&A were completely transparent with us and kept us updated at regular intervals, which is all we could really ask. They went the extra mile and offered us the opportunity to rent another property that they had built close by, at a favourable rate, so that we could progress with our house sale as planned and be free to pounce once our new home was ready. I believe V&A Homes being family owned and run, made the difference as we were able to develop a close working relationship.

We are thrilled with our new home and grateful for all the times they went above and beyond.

Brilliant small builders , absolutely delighted, first class in every way

We ordered our wonderful home from V&A homes two years ago and moved in earlier this year, the finish is superb and the attention to detail was immaculate. The personal service and 'can do" attitude was reassuring and the finished product has been such a joy. Even in lockdown, the team worked incredibly hard to ensure our house was finished. Post moving in we have had support second to none. Very highly recommended *****

Beautifully designed homes

We have bought new houses from larger house builders and do prefer new build homes. I was however massively impressed when I viewed a V and A home, by the care and attention to detail that goes into their design and build. I think being a family run, smaller builder, you get a more personal service. They think about the finishing touches and I have never known a builder care more about maxing out your storage space! They have really thought about how you will live in your home and I think that is what sets them apart. Beautifully designed homes.

We have now had three experiences…

We have now had three experiences moving to a new build home, the first and the last were a joy but the experience with V&A homes was beyond a shambles of delays, dishonesty, spec changes and vast expense on our part, which finally ended with Victoria putting the home we had waited 6 months for to auction leaving us homeless.

If you are thinking of buying a V&A home, do your homework, make sure you are protected, don’t leave yourself open to trust, it was the biggest mistake we made.

We love our V&A home

We love our V&A home - the quality is outstanding. We looked at most of the new developments in the HG area, and V&A stood head and shoulders above anything we saw.

We moved during covid and Victoria was fantastic with us. I was pregnant at the time (and getting more pregnant as the days passed by!) - she personally kept in touch with me to keep me calm and happy. She managed to get us moved in just in the nick of time before our little one arrived. We now have a happy family home and a lovely community around us. When we are ready for the next move we will definitely be looking what v&a have in the pipeline! Even a year on v&a are still in touch and helping out with bits and bobs around the estate, customer service above and beyond.

Buying a house during Covid was no fun but 100% worth it in the end !

We had no intention of moving until we saw the V&A Waterside development .. the bespoke nature of the build and the position / view within the conservation area turned us from thinking about buying in the future in Harrogate (we were already living in Knaresborough) to reserving the last available plot, all within a few days.

V&A are a small builder who have been caught up in the nightmare of the pandemic with key suppliers failing and costs of material skyrocketing .. we have stayed firm on the roller coaster during the difficult time but we were fully committed to the purchase and actually moved into temporary accommodation to ensure our house sale completed and we were in the best position when the new house became available … and we have now finally moved into our new home.

We could not be happier with the result (it’s Amazing) and the team onsite at V&A have been ultra supportive .. nothing has been too much trouble especially during the move in where we experienced some very poor service from the removal company .. I balance this against a number of snags which are to be expected on a new build (especially such a bespoke one) and which are actively being addressed.

We can now start to relax and enjoy many years ahead in this beautiful house in an amazing location.

Our journey to buy a V&A home started as a dream and ended a nightmare…

Our journey to buy a V&A home started in the summer of 2021, after 10 years living in Knaresborough, we thought we already had our dream home but when the opportunity of riverside living came up in the form of a unique build, we followed our hearts and decided to make the move. To make a reservation we had to be in a proceedable position, we quickly sold our home and worked towards a seamless move from one home to another aiming for a September completion date.

The dream soon turned into a nightmare that six months on left us without a home and over £10k out of pocket. The timeline and extent of the stress we were subjected to goes into such depth that a brief review doesn’t allow me to share the full detail. We were taken in by the ‘Family values’ of V&A, moving out of our home for what was meant to be a 4 week delay, this then went to 7 weeks and then 6 months!

Verbal support offered for the delay was then denied, written changes were challenged and changed, major changes to the design were made to reduce costs (A large skylight that was featured in the brochure and planning permission was just not included). We were not made to feel like a customer. The changes / customisation turned into a massive ordeal any sign that we weren’t compliant we were told “don’t buy the property then”, or “I don’t think this is the property for you”.

We realised what a vulnerable position we were in and the sort of person we were dealing with, but we just had to keep quiet and accept whatever we were subjected to. The cost of the delay to us was considerable and our family was split over two family houses for 6 months, we had to reapply for our mortgage 3 times due the increasing delays, each time at a worse rate due to the base rate increasing.

Initially V&A weren’t in a position to exchange but when they were my solicitor advised it was not wise to exchange and hand over 10% without a completion date and no end in sight. Over the course of a week this was communicated by my solicitor and by me politely over the phone, the only direction I could get was “it will be ready when its ready”. This was the get out they were looking for and the very next day we got an email saying they were going to relist the property for £105k more than we were buying for. There was no talking Victoria around based on 6 months wait we had endured and the situation we were being left in, I was accused of emotionally involving her and they were a business that needed to be profitable.

My wife begged me to pay the extra money, I just couldn’t do it, paying over £100k more than the two neighbours, getting a finished product where the spec was getting reduced to save costs and I knew it still wouldn’t be the end, the stress and problems would continue right up until the move in date and probably beyond.

It’s taken me 2 months to document our experience with V&A in the form of this review, I’ve only just calmed down after such a devastating experience. As I write this review, we are over £10k out of pocket, we lost six months of family life chasing a dream and trusting a small developer, we have experienced untold stress. We learned a valuable lesson and saw what people will do in self-interest. It’s the 20th April (another month on from the completion date we were given) there is still no sign of the property being finished.

I don’t like to dwell or share a bad experience; I only hope it spares another family going through what we have.

5* for V&A Homes

V&A Homes is a small privately owned developer - and they couldn’t have been more helpful and professional. I’ve lived in my new home for 6 months and I couldn’t be more pleased. Compared to some of the larger new house builders, I feel that my home has been well thought out in its design and has been finished to a high standard. Whilst I’ve had a couple of snags, their after-care customer service has been excellent in putting things right. I would highly recommend V&A Homes.

New build with soul

Victoria and the team have been great to deal with from start to finish. From showing us around the shell of what is now our home nothing has ever been a bother or issue. Build quality together with attention to detail with fixtures and fittings are all a big plus.
This home builder will always be the one I’d have confidence in recommending to anyone.

Exceeding Expectations

Victoria and the team at V&A Homes made moving into BlueBell Cottage seamless from start to completion. Nothing was too much trouble to our requirements when choosing the finishing touches in making this beautiful house a home. We really appreciate the design elements with open plan living, the latest technologies integrated into the home to create the lifestyle my wife and I had been searching for. The personal touch shown by a family run developers has exceeded our expectations and we encourage anyone looking to purchase a new home to contact V&A

As a first time buyer

As a first time buyer, knowing how the process works and what to do when is daunting. The team at V&A have made the process seamless and really guided me through. The opportunity to select finishes has also been a very welcome part of the experience and it's been easy to find great options within the selections offered. Thought and care is put into every detail of the house and also the process.
