Definitely the best service from a bespoke timber yard … they couldn’t be more helpful.
We needed curved oak beams @ 4.2 metres ..to match existing ships timbers in a Grade 2 listed building.

Over 12 years I have placed 4 orders, each around 30m2, for British western red cedar for cladding my stone house in Wales. Both the wood (half lap VLH5) and service from Vastern are excellent. It has weathered extremely well and required no replacements - of course it has turned grey in this time but that is not dissimilar from the limestone it covers.

The sales man was most helpful in suggesting and showing the best available product for our small cladding job. Excellent service.

Fantastic product and service. We bought brimstone ash and it looks brilliant, is a great colour and like it will last the course. Would also say that we visited the yard and Stefan and the team were really helpful in laying out the options and the positives and negatives of the different options. Delivery was all good and overall a great experience dealing with them and really pleased with the product. Thank you.

We were delighted with our purchase of Brimstone Ash cladding. It looks beautiful and is a fantastic quality wood with lovely tones, texture and colour.

Both the product and customer service from Stefan was exceptional. We only had a small order - much smaller than Vastern would normally do - but we got the same level of service nonetheless and Stefen was great and very knowledgeable and helpful in selecting a cladding that will work for us. We were actually one plank short (my fault) and Stefan arranged a time for us to collect even though they were closed.

I placed a very large order for wood cladding with Vastern recently, amounting to around 23k.
Stefan was very helpful and communicative and i explained exactly what I was looking for. I picked a product and when it came to actually placing the order Stefan suggested that if I wanted longer lengths of the cladding, I should consider using jointed lengths. These came in at a whole 5p per meter cheaper than the not jointed lengths (a saving of £120 on the total order)

When the wood arrived it was a complete patchwork of jointed pieces of completely different colours of Ash - with up to 10 different pieces per board. It literally looks like a patchwork as it is made up of multiple off-cuts.It looks NOTHING like the original board Stefan knew I wanted.

This was NOT explained to me or mentioned once in any of the many comms back and forth and when Vastern sent a photo of the product, it also didn't show this as it was a close up. I had a sample of the original product and assumed that to create a 4m length it would be jointing 2 lengths together. I didn't think to ask how many pieces exactly there would be and if there was any major difference between what I was about to order and the new suggestion from Stefan, one would think he might mention it.
I contacted Stefan at Vastern with my concerns once the wood had arrived and part of his response email went like this: "it is not always possible to give every single piece of information to the customer" &, "If any further information was required or if anything was unclear, then we would have been happy to explain further if asked at the time during the quotation phase."
- well, as I responded to Stefan, as a layman with absolutely no knowledge of timber cladding I would rely upon the expert sales person to give me the information that the 'premium product' I'm buying is actually jointed out of many offcuts.

When I asked Stefan to call me regarding this, his reponse was 'I'm more than happy to discuss over the phone if you'd like, but our stance would be as outlined above.' He never called until I emailed back telling him how unprofessional i thought he was.
I think that tells us everything we need to know about their customer care and after sales support that he can't be bothered to call a customer after taking £22k from them - following on from negligent sales technique selling a product patched together out of off-cuts.

It's pretty shady in my opinion to suggest a client to buy a lesser product than the one they're about to order, not give the information about it being made up from offcuts with a completely different look and many many different colours in it, and then say it's the clients fault for not asking the question about how many pieces of wood it's made up from!
I would not have ordered this product had I known that it would have so many joints and would look like a patchwork of multi coloured wood.
My recommendation would be to avoid Vastern Timber.

Was really impressed with the service at vasterns, knowledgeable, patient and thorough, my client bought three, 1st grade oak waney edge boards and Wolf was on hand to help guide us to the right choice. Top guy, top gear. Was patient and aloud us time to make decisions and think about our options.

No pressure, no rush. Recommended.

Over the years we've been collecting M&S Sonoma range of furniture, but now they have stopped and we needed a Console table, so there was an obvious choice to build one myself by returning to Wolf at Vastern Timber at Wootton Basset. Wolf is still very helpful at helping you choose the correct timber, and at good prices. So thanks again to Wolf and #VasternTimber. I don't seem to be able to upload photos sadly. Googled it, but to no avail.

Always love a trip to Vastern to buy British timber for my furniture making business. Always get the best service from Wolf who patiently helps and waits while picking out boards. Highly recommend.

I've been a furniture maker for 16 years now and this place is the best timber yard I've found. Great stock of British timber, good prices and excellent service. The staff are welcoming and freindly. They don't rush you, and take the time to make sure you're getting what you want.

For a number of years I have been visiting both of Vastern's yards. Time has told that stock is carefully kilned and behaves as it should when placed in an interior environment.
Wolf and I have selected some exceptional timber to date and I am very grateful of his time and enthusiasm towards what I am aiming to achieve. (Wolf's help and attention to detail is always a joyful start to a new project.)
They are in demand and busy people, I would recommend allowing time and booking in for a visit.

No matter the size of order, Wolf and the super team at Vastern are so happy to help. I've always gone to studely Vastern sawmill and today had a good reason to head to WB. I was warmly welcomed by the whole team and received the best service. Wolf very kindly gave me a tour of the whole site including their Brimstone facility and kilns! Super interesting stuff, he's clearly very passionate about his work and it's inspiring.
I've made vastern my go-to supplier from now on due to so many great experiences with them. I would highly recommend both Vastern at WB and Studely! Go in person if you can, they will really take their time with you.

Exceptional dedication to quality and sustainability, and great service from the staff. As a furniture maker I'm quite fussy over the timber I use, but Wolf and the team are always happy to assist with selecting the perfect boards for the job. So good I rarely go anywhere else.

Bordering on obnoxious. Need over 5k worth of timber and she put the phone down on me. You live and learn but never again.

Great experience at Vastern Timber today. Greeted by Dee who was lovely and then Wolf helped us through our predicament with his expert knowledge and understanding. We had been liaising with Stefan over the last weeks so the trip to the showroom was well worth the effort. Wolf walked us through the best wood to use for our project and we are really excited to be using a company with such knowledge and expertise.

the biggest mistake i have made on my build I really wish I bought elsewhere -- DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY . I WAS PROMISED RANDOM LENGTHS BETWEEN 1.8 AND 3.5 MT I HAVE BEEN DELIVERED 1.65 TO A FEW PIECES OF 2.2 MTS I DOUBT IF I WILL BE ABLE TO CLAD MY PROJECT AND I FEEL THAT HAVE JUST WASTED NEARLY 1000 POUNDS ..THIS NEEDS TO BE COLLECTED AND REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE ..... THIS IS FROM THEIR WEBSITE We offer sweet chestnut cladding in a choice of two length formats, either in solid random lengths (1.8 – 3.5mt+) THIS IS TOTALLY MISLEADING BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY

Rude and abrupt staff. Bad enough trying to get help via email let alone in person where the staff make you feel like you are intruding as soon as you walk through the door. Horrible experience dealing with them. Only wood yard I've ever dealt with that make you feel so unwelcome.

Advise for Vastern timber: Train you staff in dealing with customers as they must cost you a fortune in sales and repeat business.

Needed 100mm x 20mm floorboards.

I gave them the measurements they completely miscalculated the metres squared requirement (by a factor if 10x and then I was transferred to someone else who was very rude and actually hung up on me without any warning once he knew they didn’t have what I needed and just as I was thanking him for his time... and I thought we’d had a friendly conversation.

Basically they don’t do fixed width floorboards and you have to order 10m2 minimum. You also have to get a mixed width which means your floor will not be uniform you will have 100mm + 115 mm etc etc. Pointless. Waste of time and unfriendly. Wouldn’t recommend at all.
