Can't reach a person via chat or phone

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience using Venmo and PayPal.

I attempted to remove a credit card that I no longer have and had already canceled. Despite multiple attempts, the system would not allow me to remove it as a payment method. I tried reaching customer support, but there is effectively no way to speak to a human. The chat option routes you endlessly to an AI bot, and the phone numbers lead to automated menus that loop without ever reaching a live representative. It’s incredibly frustrating and feels intentionally designed to prevent real support.

What made this experience worse is that I was also a PayPal shareholder. I owned 200 shares at around $70 per share, believing the stock was undervalued. After dealing firsthand with the customer service—or lack thereof—I immediately sold the stock. While I understood the stock’s performance had been weak, I hadn’t realized how poorly the company treats its customers. Now I do.

This experience made it very clear why the stock has been stagnant. If customers can’t resolve basic account issues and investors lose confidence after firsthand interaction, that reflects deeper operational problems.

Since Venmo is owned by PayPal, the same issues apply to both platforms. As both a customer and a former shareholder, I find this unacceptable. I do not recommend Venmo or PayPal. If another banking or payment system offers a comparable alternative with real customer support, I—and likely many others—will gladly switch.

Very disappointing.

On top of all the other problems

On top of all the other problems, I’m honestly curious where they outsourced their customer support—the agents can barely communicate in English. I contacted CS twice for a small issue and each time they have a different explaination.

I cannot recommend Venmo

I cannot recommend Venmo. A long time client sent us several hundred dollars via Venmo and they put a 21 day hold on it. We use Zelle, Cash App no holds no problems. But Venmo will get bad ratings and reviews from us!! When that $ goes in the bank we will permanently close Venmo

horrible! HORRIBLE!!! RUN!!!!…

I have tried everything imaginable over the past 16 days (YES 16 DAYS!!!) To get access to $40 yes again $40.00. I can't add any debits, bank information anything. I have sent a bank statement proving I own the account I am sending to 6 times and sent my ID 8. Now everytine I send anything I attach my ID. Just imagine how much money this bank would make if it did this to ten people a day for 16 days. Wow that's some cash!! Next move is to talk to an attorney. Just beyond ridiculous...

Lacks troubleshooting instructions that match the App's interface

OK, I'm fairly new, but the first time I paid money to someone it went through so easy, I thought wow, I should have got this app sooner. Then brother paid me for his half of funeral flowers and I was able to transfer that to my debit card account. Great again!! 3rd time has been a nightmare. It gives me the message: "Something went wrong and we couldn’t complete this payment. Try again another time." So I tried several days in a row to no avail. All bank accounts have been verified. So I go to the help section and try to follow them, but the instructions do not match the latest app's interface (I was a technical writer for years, so I know how important this is!). The issue I have is there's no clue as to how to troubleshoot this, only the very vague message,,,, AND if I want to chat or phone someone for help, I must agree to a $38 per month charge for having their help. Now why would I do that? I thought I saw a $5 charge somewhere but when I finally went to try it, the $38 per month thing came up and it stated that you WILL BE enrolled and WILL NEED to go back and cancel it. I've had no problems with PayPal and thought since they owned Venmo, well it will be great, but it's SO FRUSTRATING. And my friend is still waiting to be paid.

Venmo sucks ass

Well let's see they locked my card for being overdrawn by 5$ i could have transferred the money in seconds. But no the locked my account made me use a bank transfer that said 3 to 5 business days. We are now day 12 overdraft has been paid for 6 days card is still locked. Customer service what is this customer service you speak of? What a joke venmo is a scammer company and card account. If I could negative stars I would when they locked my venmo card account it caused my bank card to stop working. I was 10 days late paying my rent. I do not want to use my bank account to pay my rent becouse everytime I do my account gets hacked. So I like to use one of these shit cards so I can only put what I have to on it so if it gets scammed it dosnt touch all my money VENMO SUCKS ASS AND SHOULD BE TAKEN DOWN

Customer service is a thing of the past

Unworthy of being integrated in the banking system. Customer service is no help. Executives (Julio Duarte, Scott Petersen) are equally ineffective. Highly recommend simply avoiding, even using CashApp is better than this company.

I am not shocked that Venmo is rated…

I am not shocked that Venmo is rated 1.2 out of 5.

I have spent hours (yes hours) attempting to use Venmo and as of yet have been unable to pay anything.

If the person I was working with would accept any other payment I would dump Venmo like a bad date.

The strange part is I use paypal all the time with no problem and Venmo is owned by Paypay.

VENMO claims I am trying to scam people I send requests to

I have had a PAYPAL account since 2001, VENMO is owned by PAYPAL, I opened a VENMO account because people want to use it, whenever I send a request to someone to pay me, VENMO claims I am trying to scam them and will not let the payment happen, I contacted VENMO customer service and was told "there is nothing we can do about it, we cannot predict future transactions, keep trying to use the service" - what good is that? So I closed the account.

They don't let you autopay more than…

They don't let you autopay more than the statement balance. This is to realize more money in interest fees. And when you call and speak with a rep, the rep is clueless. They say "Just go to auto pay and select an amount".. uh, there is no way to select an amount. only two options exist "Minimum balance" and "statement balance". Why don't their reps know this? Why is Venmo forcing us to only pay minimum amount? It's a total rip off to be paying only the minimum each month because the interest rate is nearly 35%!!

New security algorithm is awful

For the past two weeks I have been trying to transfer money to my son using Venmo. My transfer requests keep getting denied. Customer service says that my transfer request carries "inherent risks" according to their automated algorithms, which is why it will not go through. I have successfully transferred funds to my son more than 30 times using Venmo, but it appears that this history is irrelevant to the company. Clearly they have implemented new algorithms that screen transfer requests, as I have never had any trouble until now. Whoever is responsible for this at Venmo needs to take a hard look at what they have done to their loyal customers.

I would give zero stars i filed a dispute and was told it would be 10 business days at the longest to get an answer. It has been 11 business days and was told id have an answer by 50 business days clearly custimer service is incompetent and liars. This is basically fraud.

Venmo clowns

Well, accidentally brushed my thumb across the screen while some firewood was being offloaded from a dump truck. Was told that we couldn't cancel the transfer initiated, and now $700 has been tied up for over a week in The ether. The inability to cancel a transfer within a couple minutes of an accidentally being made is the stupidest thing I have heard of in nearly my entire life. I'm sure someone down the road will impress me a little more. Pure idiocy and lunacy. Nice job clowns...
