It all started in 1999 when our founder, Kevin Sproles, then 16 years old, started building custom websites for clients. Talking to customers, and building their dream was a passion from the beginning. Doing it all, from sales to support, to product design, Kevin knew what needed to happen to be able to help more people, and soon the first version of Volusion was born: an all-in-one tool for people to run their business. From the beginning, it was easy to use, and we were there if you needed help. Today, that’s still true. Kevin and 250+ more Volusioneers are a phone call away, 24x7 to help you reach your goals. And product innovation is at the forefront. This is only the beginning… just wait, we’ve got even more great things in store for you to come.

Avoid Volusion at all costs!

Because of the rules of TrustPilot, I will just say that I could not be any more disappointed in Volusion, and because of actions taken by Volusion, was forced to close down my company after a successful five-year run.

I believe Volusion is lacking in ethics, and took horribly unjust actions against my company, which forced me to close it and prevented me from even being able to take legal recourse.

I'd like to be much more specific as potential Volusion customers should at least hear my story before making a decision, but I'd prefer the review be posted with less information than censored because I was too specific about exactly what they did to my business.

Let there be no doubt, the language used in this review is extremely mild and toned down, and that if I were allowed to tell the story in full, it would read as a far greater indictment against Volusion than simply a dissatisfied customer.

Screenshots can be viewed by typing in eganmedical.com to the Wayback Machine at Archive.org for the sake of proving the company existed and that the website was in fact hosted by Volusion and used the Volusion e-commerce selling platform.

Impossible to cancel in the user backend. Needed to google to find the support email. Wanted to cancel. Only possible during Mo-Fri received as reply. Needed to give answers to "security questions" so a "Merchant Happiness expert" can "assist" me.
Companies as such should go out of business.

After 5 years I am leaving Volusion

After 5 years I am leaving Volusion. Within those years they have done nothing to compete with other e-commerce shopping carts.

-Their platform is outdated and are doing nothing to update it.
-No blog capabilities.
-No viable app marketplace.
-Their new pricing structure makes NO sense.
-Their seo where it makes categories end with numbers 123.htm and _s annoys anyone credible in seo.
-The website code and site speed has gone to crap after moving to Google.
-Customer service tries to be helpful but they don't know anything.

When will Volusion listen to its customer base? Probably never.

Only for data-driven business owners

Volusion has a 14-day Free Trial, and five price plans:

Personal ($29 p/m)
Professional ($79 p/m)
Business ($299 p/m)
Prime (custom)

With all price plans, you need to purchase an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate costing $89.99. This protects your site from fraud.

Compared to other eCommerce website builders, Volusion is quite expensive, with price plans up to $299 per month. On top of that, you need to purchase an $89-99 SSL certificate. However, it has a $13.50 per month option if you sign up for a whole year.

If you’re a data-driven business owner looking for an e-commerce website builder with great analytics tools, Volusion is for you. For everything else, like designing the storefront or writing blogs, you should look elsewhere.

The drop ship product don’t work. Customer service is fake.

I don’t like the sales people or the fake support that they say you suppose to get. The lady lied said I should be making money soon. I ordered a product from my site a month ago and never received it. I text and emailed them they say oh we don’t handle that. They are just running people through a sales funnel where they record your sales. Probably uses it for research to target other people. The website makes basic website. So they can up sell you on some bs. Then they said oh yeahh we can get you traffic. I said how much... they talking about 3000. Why would I give anyone you recommend 3000. When you can’t even send something for 50 bucks. They are on the border line of a scam. They give you 14 days but the product don’t work right. They looking for some one with a dream of owning a website with a boat load of money to scam it out of. I should give them 1 star.

Volusion Merchant Bait and Switch

Volusion Merchant Bait and Switch. Roger Bautista emailed us the fees Volusion charges and was quoted 2.15%, .30 per transaction, .30 batch fee and $5.66 location fee. When I got my first bill it was about 4.8%. I tried several times to reach Roger but he would not reply. Finally reached a manager who did nothing to help us just said that certain credit cards are billed more than 2.15% based on the customer's rewards. That was never explained to us so obviously we dropped them.

Volusion supports CON ARTISTS who STEAL YOUR MONEY!

VOLUSION IS PROMOTING CON-ARTIST WEB DEVELOPERS! THEY "RECOMMEND" PRO'S SUCH AS MAK DIGITAL DESIGN, BUT THESE "EXPERTS" PAY FOR THE PRIVILEGE TO BE PROMOTED! We were double charged by MAK Digital and took the case to Burlington County Court in NJ where a judgement was made in our favor. On many occasions I tried to bring this to the attention of the team at Volusion and received underwhelming sympathy. This company should not be recommended because they (specifically the owner Mary and her husband Drew) ARE CROOKS!

First of all I don't have a tremendous amount of experience with building website. Did my research and decided to use Volusion.
Learned how to use and built a decent website. Volusion has quirks and issues but with my limited experience figured they all do.
My problem is that Volusion is CONSTANTLY having technical issues. Which makes it hard when i want to work on website in the middle of the day (WHILE WAITING FOR VOLUSION TO FIX) to build/improve the website. I've invested time and money and feel stuck with them now. I wanted to get this out there for other new E commerce beginners when trying to decide which platform to use.
If i Could start over would definitely look at other options.

Functions to add products

Functions to add products, descriptions, datasheets are not intuitive. Unless you are a professional website designer, I have found Volusion very difficult to use. Getting technical help has to be scheduled, although I think that has improved lately. I use Weebly for another application, and it is much easier to use and easy to get quick technical help. When we switched to Volusion (by importing data from a prior website platform), I ordered one of their new templates which cost about $500 based on what a sales person told me. After about a year and multiple phone calls, it finally looks OK.

The Worst for SEO

There are many technical limitations to the SEO features of Volusion.

1. They charge $20 extra per month for SSL, SSL is necessary if you accept payment on your site and SSL helps with SEO.
2. They add "_s/123.htm" to every category page. It looks bad and you cannot remove it.
3. There is no category hierarchy in the URL. This is terrible for SEO.

An example of #3: You would expect in a subcategory for the parent category to display in the URL.
You should see "Example(dot)com/Parent/Subcategory/Product".
But instead, everything is "Example(dot)com/Product_s/123.htm"

Used Volusion for over 10 years and…

Used Volusion for over 10 years and watched it decline year after year..

Our eCom business started growing rapidly and Volusion did not, or was not, willing to keep up and grow with us. Their leadership has NO idea what the customers actually want, regardless of how many surveys and polls they send out. Features are dated, code is very badly held together with glue and rubberbands. When they moved from Rackspace to Google, we had a call with Google regarding sitespeed and improving our page overall, and Google gave us 10+ action items.. all of which Volusion said they couldn't or wouldn't implement. They constantly wanted us to start new stores, and offered discounts to add more stores.. only problem is we sell a real product and don't need 10 websites to sell the same thing.. they want everyone to sell dropshipped t-shirts in my opinion.

After over 10 years of selling on Volusion, we made the move and haven't looked back. Since leaving, I still get solicited for their SEO and Marketing services... yet no one called to followup on why we left, or what could have been better.

Before giving them one star, understand that I gave them chance after chance. I reached out to multiple reps and managers at Volusion and was never given a true answer.

When they released a new price structure, I wasn't able to get concrete data on if / when or how it would affect our store. Unreal!

Their downtime, and "maintenance" is out of control. Everytime they "fix" something, they break 3 other items.

We had custom code written by a Volusion certified partner, and Volusion kept changing how the API interacted, or updating things, and they said "you have to have your developer fix it", which meant more $$ out of pocket constantly to just keep functions working.

Do not build your business on the shifting sands that are Volusion. Staff is unhappy as seen on Glassdoor, and constant changes occur with account managers and technical staff.

Also - multiple hour "all company" meetings when support is effectively closed - not smart...

TL:DR - Volusion wants you to sign up for a dozen dropshipping stores with limited to no advanced functions, never call support, and put up with downtime.

We've had a site with Volusion for the…

We've had a site with Volusion for the last 6 years. In all honesty, the platform is quite clunky, but it is possible to develop a decent website on it.
My problem with Volusion is that they are not transparent with their costs and billing. We were on their business package (not cheap) and pretty soon we had a decent amount of traffic to our site - before we knew it, the website costs were through the roof as we were then being billed for additional bandwidth - the potential for these charges was kept very quite (in the fine print). We kept our site with them - too difficult to move. Updated our SSL certificate and they sneakily added on an additional charge for 'fraud score checking' (+/- $15 per month). I queried it many times and repeatedly asked them to remove it (2 years later still not removed). Final straw, Volusion 'redesigned' their plans and moved us (without telling us) to an appropriate plan (we paid $80 p/m, they put us on a $212 p/m plan). For two months they invoiced us this amount before we noticed. Long story short, I contacted them and told them there had been a mistake and they needed to refund us the overcharge - Got a flat refusal saying that it says in the fine print that queries can only be accepted in the month of the invoice.
Volusion have many tricks and schemes to extract more money from you. Just love Squarespace - so uncomplicated and transparent, can't wait to migrate my site!

Volition Merchant Services (3-Year Contract - which Auto Renews every year)

We opened an online store in 2014 and decided to utilize Volusion for Hosting and Merchant Services. Unfortunately, we had to close the store in June 2018, so I submitted a request to close our online store and cancel our account. We had to wait for another month due to the Volusion billing cycle (no biggie). It has come to my attention, Volusion has been charging my bank account $65/month since July 2018 for Merchant Services which we haven't been using because we closed our online store. Buyer Beware: If you're looking to open an online store, please be aware that Volusion Merchant Services is a 3-year contract (which Auto Renews) each year. I called today to request a credit and they're telling me an email was sent last year to request a cancellation for the Merchant Services account. We have paid $65/month for the past 7 months -- so please don't make this mistake.

The Best Customer Service I've Ever Seen!

The online "chat" techs have been absolutely great. Solved my problems and are going to help me with a special "tweek" that I need done on my site. Should be ready to publish shortly.

This is my second website created with Volusion. My last one, was jam packed with products with lots of size/color variations, and they helped alot with that one as well.

Do NOT bother with Volusion

I did not even get past the initial sales call.... I found volusion on an ad where their prices were not listed, so I called to learn more.. The first thing I told the agent is that I am a single person, selling a single product and a VERY affordable rate so I could not spend a lot. He proceeds to sell me on their most expensive plan knowing it was not a plan. I was so turned off, that there is nothing anyone could say to make me consider them more. Rude rude rude. Don't use.
