Von Maur has fallen to the WORST

Von Maur used to have exemplary customer service and generous return windows. I’ve shopped there 30 + years. They are on their way out and grubbing up whatever they can. They quietly changed their return policies and now make them so vague for online shopping I would never shop in person or online again. Their website is so unprofessional I should have known not to use it - but did. The shipping took so long it missed the bday I was ordering for. When I returned it they used the “ordered date” not the shipped or received date even though it was weeks late and forced me to have a credit I can’t use and charge outrageous fees for returns. More than $30. The return credit itself - was MAILED in a handwriitten envelope with a form filled out by hand - apparently they can’t afford computers . Laughable outdated and unprofessional. I also ordered Xmas gifts for my son an outfit with socks hat & little bottle opener - easily could fit in a gift box which is what I asked for - they packed them in separate boxes one arrived on Xmas socks and a bottle opener - that’s what he thought i got him socks & a bottle opener and the other package arrived late and he didn’t get until 2 days after Xmas. It was my fav store I’ll never shop there again until the fire sale when they shut down, I never see anyone in the stores and the online is a joke. So sleezy and unprofessional it’s sad because they were great.

If I could rate this a 0, I would. I had purchased a dress online, and 2 days later the order is cancelled. I waited on hold for 6 minutes all for them to tell me the dress was out of stock, and someone bought it off the shelf. even though I had purchased it online BEFORE someone purchased it in store.

Item appears worn, washed and returned

I have been a loyal customer of this store for nearly twenty years and have had mostly positive experiences. That streak ended this week when I purchased an item (on sale) from their website, expecting to receive brand new merchandise. Instead, what I got was an item that had obviously been worn. There were stains on the front, it smelled faintly of deodorant, and there were no price tags anywhere on the item. Worse, the holes where the price tags had been, on the size tag inside the collar, were enlarged and frayed, as though the item had been laundered and dried. Additionally, there was shrinkage and puckering indicative of said laundering. While the item I purchased was casual in nature, the issues I observed were not hallmarks of the worn in look, but instead how the item starts to take on that look after the first tumble dry: collars weren’t as crisp, cuffs and hem were puckered, and the fabric on the zipper pull was curled. I noticed these immediately, as I have purchased the same item in current season in other colors that all looked crisp straight out of the box. Additionally, I do not intend to tumble dry this item, as I want more of a smart-casual look than a sloppy one.

I did contact the retailer, who asked for my shipping receipt showing the “inspected by” field, which was strangely blank.

I am fully aware stores sell returned items. I also regularly thrift and shop vintage; I have no issue with pre-worn clothes. What I DO take issue with is a retailer re-selling non-new items and representing them as new.

The item was purchased online and marked Final Sale, meaning I had no opportunity to inspect the item before paying, and no recourse if defects are found.

A missing price tag and no acknowledgement of inspection for this shipment cannot be ignored. It’s disappointing from a company that stands for excellent customer service and high-quality merchandise. If “final sale” means item may be used or damaged, this should be stated on the item page. To sell used clothes without this disclaimer is deceptive and erodes trust.

A 16th birthday gift fit for a royal

I was shopping for a meaningful present for my granddaughters 16 th birthday, not an easy task… unless you happened to gain assistance from the lovely Jayanne! Everything I was worried about vanished, great gift, wrapping, shipping in one fell swoop. After much patience on Jayannes part she concurred with me that a 16 year old birthday is profound. Not wishing to give something transient & my input that young woman of Royalty usually is designated a fragrance, England Ms.Dior, but in America different story. Juliette has a gun! My favorite & I’ve seen it on many nieces dressings tables. So, done deal, Julliette has a gun, not a fragrance, which means no floral, musk, patchouli, just a scent that becomes uniquely your own as it blends with your own skin. It never shouts, it’s like a secret that only you & someone in close proximity will realize. Perfection! Totally aided by Jayanne, my doubts are gone, gift wrapped & sailing towards Julia, my granddaughter. There was no pressure just an acknowledgment that I was indeed on the right track.
AI can’t do this for you nor the internet. It can only be done with the excellence of someone like Jayanne, it was truly my lucky day as she helped me make my granddaughter’s 16th memorable. I’m so grateful!

Subject: Complaint Regarding Unprofessional Conduct by Salesperson
Dear Von Maur Department (Laurel Park) Store Manager,
I am writing to formally complain about an unpleasant interaction I had with one of your salespeople during my recent visit to your store.
During this interaction, the salesperson (Andrea Cook, Intimate Apparel) became argumentative rather than helpful. When I attempted to resolve the matter calmly, the situation escalated further, culminating in the salesperson making a passive-aggressive and inappropriate remark: “I’m going to pray that you have a good Christmas.”
I found this comment to be unprofessional and condescending, particularly in the context of an already tense exchange. Regardless of intent, remarks of this nature are not appropriate in a customer service setting and detract from the respectful and welcoming environment I expect from your store.
I have been a customer of your department store because of its reputation for quality service, which made this experience especially disappointing. I hope this matter will be addressed so that future customers do not encounter similar behavior.
I must add that for many customers like myself, shopping is an experience. When we come into your store to shop and spend money, we expect to be treated well. Otherwise, we could shop online and avoid these unfortunate situations. However, if everyone shops online, what might happen to your brick-and-mortar department store? Furthermore, what would happen to all of the jobs of the people who work in your store? My thought is that it would be the end of the "brick-and-mortar business model for your Laurel Park location.
Finally, I want you to know that while Ms. Cook was taunting me, I used my cell phone and ordered the items I was trying to purchase from one of your competitors. I also intend to return all purchases I've made in your store over the past few weeks.
Thank you for taking the time to review my concerns. I would appreciate knowing what steps will be taken to ensure more professional conduct going forward. Your response will determine whether or not I will ever shop in your store again.

Why when I attempt to use the VM card…

Why when I attempt to use the VM card was I denied purchase nor opening an account in my own name, my credit score is in excess of 750, and in over substantial number of years has not had a late or missed payment. This action will definitely make me consider Bloomingdale’s for my next shopping , given my purchases were in excess of $800.00 yesterday this won’t be a one off purchase there.

I just had the best unexpected shopping…

I just had the best unexpected shopping experience at the Orland Park Von Maur. I did not find exactly the coat I was looking but Cheri, on the better dress Dept. was kind enough to help me do some searches online and locations near me. Still at a loss, she gave other locations to check out in the mall. 2 hours later I'm back, now working plan "B" and we are laughing about the little things that make you feel good about spending money in a store. Liri joined in the hunt, 6 coats later, I left and could not be happier! Thank you.

Amazing experience at I Von Maur store…

Amazing experience at I Von Maur store in Hoover, AL today 7-13-2024. I absolutely amazed at the amazing customer service I received from Vanessa Associate # 915223. She treated me like I was the only person there. She was very knowledgeable of the items in your store. I was clueless as to what brands I was looking for. Vanessa was the best salesperson I could have helped me to make the best purchases I made. Love what I got thank you Vanessa.

On July 1, 2024 I shopped at Von Maur at Madison , WI. I purchased 2 pair of slacks. Store 42, Reg 011, transaction 3479, Assoc 955658. She did a great job in helping me find slacks that fit me better and went to look for others slacks while I was in the dressing room. I was there for a while and she asked me if I would like a bottle of water. She also brought my husband a bottle of water, which we really appreciated. She was very helpful & pleasant! Great Employee!

Very expensive average clothing.

Basically this is a store that has upscale prices but average clothing. I went here looking for an outfit for an upcoming wedding. The choices were very limited. I saw one blazer that was a possibility however it was $315.00. There was nothing special about it. I went to Kohl’s and found an attractive blazer for $54.00. There was a far better selection at Kohl’s. I will never shop at this store again.

Von Maur uses a company called what…

Von Maur uses a company called what goes around comes around for high in purses like Louis Vuitton Gucci... Be very careful when buying through this resale vendor at Von Maur as you cannot return the product and you don't get the lifetime warranty though them and or Von Maur. The purse I purchased was $20 less then full price through Louis Vuitton in NYC. It had slight marks on the bottom of the bag along with the sides. Inside was also slightly worn. I had a very bad experience for the first time ever. So if you see a purse before purchasing one DO YOUR PRICE SHOPPING first. This transaction was at the Von Maur in Eden Prairie MN. Have never had any issues but this was just bad business. I was also told one price and then when I got the receipt saw it was 1000.00 more. When bringing it to the sales persons attention I was told I couldn't return it as I "purchased" a non returnable item. When I spoke with the store manager 21/2 weeks later he said there wasn't anything they go do not even give me a reasonable explanation why they sold a used bag to me for 2695.00 when I could've bought it brand new for 2710.00. I have been telling everyone I know not to buy their high end bags there as opposed to the going directly through the retailor. Lessoned learned. Not the Von Maur service I am used to.

On Friday the 23rd of February I took a pair of Lucky Brand Boots to the Castleton Vin Maur store in Indianapolis . I have wore Lucky Brand boots for years as they are the only boots I can wear at my job as I am constantly on Concrete . About 6 weeks ago I took a black pair back because they were causing my feet to hurt because they were poking through on each boot causing pain when I wore them . The cashier said no problem and did not give me a new receipt because they were the same size an identical . The second time I wore the new pair the heel was peeling and the color was peeling off I took them back to the store and had to wait 20 minutes for a manager to say ok as the associate had informed her there was visual proof the boot was defective . I never saw the manager and she sent the girl back to me 20 minutes later to tell me she was going to give me a merchandise credit for the amount . I did not want a merchandise credit I wanted it put back on my Von Maur card because that is the way they were purchased . I was a manager for over 25 years in Retail Stores and I was made to feel I had done something wrong because I returned a defective pair of your boots . The funny thing was I showed the girl I was wearing an older pair of identical boots and never had a problem with them . I also have 2 brown pairs and I have never had a problem with them . I felt disrespected by your manager and have never been treated so badly by a Von Maur employee and manager . The Customer Service is main reason I shop at your stores . I do have the managers name and will give it to you if you want it . Your Manager failed miserably here at trying to maintain a loyal Customer as I have been shopping at your stores since they first opened .In this case I give the Castleton Store a 0 at customer service and my feelings about Von Maur being a Customer Service First Store has been altered by you allowing her to treat a customer like this . It is true maybe you do not realize what she was capable of but she needs to be held accountable for her actions Diana Cain

You changed your formula on the estee…

You changed your formula on the estee lauder CRP serum. I have used it for years and it is not the same. It also has a smell to it that it didn't have before. I'm not paying the same price for a product that has a less than superior formula and the customer thinks they are getting the same product. It is not doing what it use to do for my skin.

Mother of the Groom ...

Purchased a mother of the groom outfit for upcoming wedding. Kate in the Women's Dept was so kind and helpful. She went above and beyond expectations. High quality store with high quality staff - they take care of you from start to finish. That's why I continue to shop here and online. It's nice to still have a finer store to shop at. Thank you Kate for all your help and also a thank you to the seamstress who took care of my alterations in such a timely manner. She did such a nice job, everything fit perfectly.
