The website for walking in Scotland "Our own lives have been immeasurably enriched and transformed by walking. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the same benefits we do, for both their mental and physical health." "We're committed to maintaining Walkhighlands as a source of reliable information so as to make walking in Scotland more accessible to everyone. To enable access for all, Walkhighlands is completely free to use, and is funded primarily by users making donations. We also provide low-cost advertising for the accommodation providers and local tourism businesses that are so vital to Scotland's rural economy." "We do all we can to encourage responsible behaviour towards local communities, to the natural environment, and to maintain personal safety. We believe that as more people learn about how best to enjoy the outdoors and nature, the more pressure and funding there will be for its protection and restoration." "We are committed to Walkhighlands continuing as a free resource for everyone to use; when the time comes for us to retire from running the site, we intend passing Walkhighlands on to whichever organisation is best placed to continue this work for public benefit." The definitively best website for scottish hill walking.

I've been using Walk Highlands for at least 10 years and donating for at least 5. For most of that time it was the best website when it comes to planning any walking, hiking or low grade mountaineering trip in Scotland. Now that the app is available and stable, it has to be the best and most up to date resource on hiking routes in Scotland. Whenever I get a question in the hills about location or where to go, I always tell them about Walk Highlands and look at when they have signal or get home.

I wish more people knew about it. I have a suspicion that if the general public were aware of it, the MRTs would have slightly fewer call outs each year. I also think it should get some annual SportScotland funding because of its utility and the safety aspect of the service it provides.

I have no idea why anyone wouldn't rate this at anything below 5 stars.

Excellent guides, FREE, rating 17/10

Excellent guides including text description, photos, and an OS map with route trace, GPS tracking on their app - this would be good value for a paid service but WalkHighland is FREE!!! (though I donate)

I don't know what the reviewer that gave 1-star is on about, but they only leave 1-star reviews and it seems like the review is perhaps for another website - who knows...

How can you not give 5 stars

How can you not give 5 stars. An organisation that helps the public navigate the great outdoors! Found it helpful all my life and without it there would be many walks and munros I would have missed out on. I won’t go a off the grid walk without planning using walk highlands by using the various ‘walk stages’ and have also discovered the OS Mapping on the app which will no doubt come in even handier for the more technically difficult/longer walks!

The mapping features on the app are tremendous!!!! For sure should limit mountain rescue call outs for getting lost!

Keep up the good work!
