We rented a car from Waycar at Sicily

We rented a car from Waycar at Sicily. While the car itself was ok, the morning of the day that we were going to return it, someone stole the car radio. We didn't notice it until we got into the car, as there was no other damage at all.
When we return the car they charged us for the radio theft (which the employee there admitted it didn't cost more than 20 euros) 980 euros!!!!
An excessive and too high amount for a cheap radio! Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews before renting with this company.

Car looks like it has been wrecked

Car looks like it has been wrecked. Headlights don’t work, it’s stinks of excrement, airco is feeble, abs warning lights on, 120,000kms on the clock. Rang them multiple times, nobody answers the phone.
This was hired for a family with 5 kids. It is unsafe and if I could give 0 stars I would.
Avoid this cowboy set up.

I'm really glad I came across your comment just in time.
I was about to rent a car from them for a whole month.
Their low prices are tempting, but now I understand why it’s so cheap!
They make up for the low rental cost with hidden fees, unjustified charges, and sneaky practices.
I’d rather pay a bit more and deal with a trustworthy company instead.

Avoid WayCar

Rented a car via WayCar at Catania airport.
Only realised now that there are lots of really bad reviews...Experienced this myself when I returned the car.

Upon returning car key, no exit/ return checks. The WayCar staff said all fine and I can go. Once I checked in for my flight home at airport terminal, received a €25 charge on my credit card. I immediately asked the staff via WhatsApp what the charge was for.
He replied it was to wash the car because it was dirty. A car wash would cost €25. To be honest, the car upon return wasn't very dirty. It's not my first time renting cars in Italy and I know what is dirty.

After reading reviews by others, I am now concerned about the €150 deposit which I understand other people have not seen a penny back. I also don't know what other charges will be incurred by this company to my credit card.

Awful...avoid using this car rental company!
The car itself was not a problem at all.

Avoid WayCar at All Costs!

I recently rented a car from WayCar in Catania, and I can confidently say it was utter crap. If you’re considering this company, don’t—save yourself the hassle and go elsewhere!

Unprofessional Staff: The counter staff (young male and female) were dismissive and unhelpful from the start.

Unmarked Damage: The car had pre-existing damage that wasn’t documented in the contract. Since it was late at night, I didn’t notice until the next morning. I tried calling WayCar for several days with no luck, forcing me to drive all the way back to Catania to address the issue in person.

Terrible Vehicle Condition:
- The seatbelt alarm kept going off for minutes after fastening seatbelts, which was a distraction while driving.
- A baby seat from a previous rental was left in the boot—unacceptable and unhygienic.
- The navigation system was useless, constantly malfunctioning.
- The car’s interior was poorly maintained.

Dismissive Staff: When I returned to report the damage and faulty seatbelt alarm, the airport staff shrugged it off like it wasn’t their problem. It was the same two from when collecting the vehicle - they continuously made jokes under their breath in Italian, not knowing we could understand them.

Unauthorized Charges: At drop-off, I was told everything was fine and signed the final contract. Yet, I later found additional charges on my credit card that were never disclosed or explained.

This company is unprofessional, unreliable, and clearly takes no pride in their vehicles or customer service. Do yourself a favor and avoid them

Initially it was all fine

Initially it was all fine, then I was charged £50 euro for a ticket, I have never seen this ticket apparently it’s verbal with police!

Mega dodgy, I would block your credit card as soon as you’ve returned your car and paid anything outstanding.

Unjustified credit card debits after returnal

At waycar Catania Airport, they charged my credit card unjustfied after returnal - never book a car here, seems like a method to squeeze out money of the customers. They do not do a proper returnal procedure, they just take the key. Afterwards they send you a „contract“ (Not signed by me) which claims additional damage (which was actually there before, we did not do any damage to the car) and weird fees. I sent them a picture which prooves that the mentioned damage was present before, no reaction. They are pushy and communicate verbale really bad. Furthermore they are hard to find and don’t help you to actually find the car during pick up as well. The car itself was fine.

They are LIARS, they will steal your money

I booked a car and third party driver hit my car. I called their support line (after 10 tries they finally answered the call) and they agreed with driver how it will be proceeded. I have collected all documents and sent instantly to rental company.

When I wanted to return the car, there was literally nobody in the office during their working hours. Guy was so late that I had a risk of missing my flight.

They charged me for damage by third party driver saying they will return it back once insurance covers this damage. THEY NEVER RETURNED BACK MY MONEY. Charged 1000+ euros and never returning it back is basically stealing.

We didn't receive the car type we…

We didn't receive the car type we booked. There was problem with the tire, we needed to inflate the tire every morning. When we called them they were not helpful, and after we returned the car we got no compensation. Even if we lost a lot of time trying to find a gas station every morning.
The car was dirty inside as well
I will not book with this company again

Avoid - scamming tourists

Avoid - scamming tourists

Way Car / Moo Car hustled us out of an extra 200 euro, and then stole the 150 euro they promised us back. With fake screenshots of some random admin screen, never their account.

1) We booked for "Full Cover" with Way Car at Catania Airport (who also operate as MooCar) DiscoverCars.com. Paying the deposit through the DiscoverCar.com website.

2) On arriving late at night to pick up our car they said we could not pay for the remaining amount on a debit card. The passenger offered to pay on his credit card, but they pointed to small print stating it had to be the driver's credit card. I've never had a credit card and hired cars around the world on a debit card. I have never been asked to pay with a credit card, least of all when we booked "Full Cover".

3) They then said I could use a Debit Card to buy "Full Cover" - which you'll see above we'd already paid for anyway, and we couldn't understand why "Full Cover" cost hundreds of euros more on debit card over credit card - they had no explanation. It would also be an extra 300 euro on top of what we'd already paid on debit card over credit card with no explanation, but 150 euro of that would be refunded to us on returning the car. None of this made any sense whatsoever and they didn't explain why it cost so much more on a Debit Card over a Credit Card.

4) They tried the same scam on another tourist while we were in there, and the desk was covered in the same hand written nonsense they tried on us. The other tourist left.

5) Unfortunately we had no other option but to pay because other rentals were shut and we had an hour long trip, arriving at Catania Airport late at night. We accepted it, knowing 150 euro would be refunded at the end.

6) Despite all of the claims about Debit vs Credit and it being the driver who has to pay, the passenger still paid on his debit card.

7) On returning the car at the end of the week the lady behind the desk claimed she had refunded the 150 euros there and then.
8) Two months later, we have not seen a penny of that 150 euro and have been in a lengthy email dispute between Way Car / Moo Car and DiscoverCars.com to at least get that money back. They've sent screenshots of their admin system, not their bank statement as they claim, showing some transaction on a card we never used with Way Car / Moo Car under my name (I never used any of my cards with them) telling us "the matter is closed" despite us showing evidence to DiscoverCars.com that the bank has stated categorically there was no transaction at all from Way Car / Moo Car.

Avoid Way Car / Moo Car and look at Trust Pilot and other reviews.

It was the worst experience in my life…

It was the worst experience in my life in their branch in Fiumicino. They don't accept my Albanian Driving license because thay said you're not in the EU. I have rented many many times in Fiumucino and another city in Italy and in Europe. Albanian driving license is valid in the EU country. After checking that the front desk said to me “We don't rent Albanian people. It was pure racism in my opinion. Thay broke the law and get also my money. I was there but they didn't want to rent the car and they also took my money. I have no words!

SCAM and extremely rude personal

Your department in Terrasini is the worst experience I ever had by renting a car - and I rent a lot. SCAM practic, they collect you from airport and drive 15km away and start to add more fees not mentioned by booking. You are trapped in some little village far away and forced to pay hundreds of euro over the agreed price. Forced to pay for additional insurance, if something doesn't work on car, they take your deposit, if you need shuttle bus for exact flight, they will try to charge you another 50 euro.
Extremely rude personal and zero customer friendly. I even received such rude sms from them as - "YOU WILL PAY, NOW YOU KNOW, BYE"
I will highly warn anyone to keep far away from this scamers. I am also making report to Police for scam.
