2018 Jaguar experience
Input the data for my 2018 Jaguar F-type. Received an attractive appraisal of $21,000 from the Fayetteville, NC location. Scheduled the onsite visit the next day. Received a call that office computer was down. but they could do their mobile service could come to my house to do the final appraisal. The person arrived on schedule the next day and was very professional. Took almost 30 minutes to do the appraisal and offered $16,000 explaining that they thought my car was a 6 cylinder versus the tubo 4 cylinder. What a scam since the VIN they had would clearly indicate the engine size. When I rejected the offer they upped it to $16,500 which was still below CarMax offer. I said thanks but no thanks and sold the car to an excellent used car dealer in Durham, NC. My experience suggests their online appraisal is simply a scam.
Update 04/25/26 - After posting my origianl crtical review WBAC did respond suggesting that they did not have access to the VIN in order to know the Jaguar was 4 cylinder versus 6. I appreciate their prompt responce but find it still suspicious in that the VIN was provided in their online website in order to get their initial estimate. If they chose not to use the VIN to reveal info about the car, that is, to me, very poor business practice. They had the VIN in their system for approx 48 hours prior to the onsite appraisal. So to give them the benfit of the doubt I will increase my review rating to 3 stars. If

Our online valuation tool provides an estimate based on the information entered by the customer. In your case, the online valuation was generated using the drop-down menus on our website and did not include the VIN. Unless the VIN was provided to us over the phone, we would not have had access to it until our buyer arrived at your home — and for transparency, we can pull the recordings of any calls between you and our team to confirm what was and was not shared.
During the online valuation, the trim selected was "2018 Jaguar F-Type Coupe 2D Base," which corresponds to the 3.0L V6 supercharged model. When our buyer arrived and decoded the VIN, it confirmed the vehicle is actually the "2018 Jaguar F-Type Coupe 2D 2" — the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder (the P300 trim). These are two meaningfully different vehicles with very different market values.
You are absolutely right that the VIN clearly indicates the engine size — and that is precisely how the trim mismatch was identified. Our team did not "think" your car was a 6-cylinder; the online valuation had been generated on the assumption that it was, based on the trim that was selected. Once the VIN confirmed the correct trim, the valuation was adjusted to reflect the actual vehicle. This is the opposite of a scam — it is the system working as intended to prevent a customer from being offered a price based on the wrong vehicle.
We also noted that a duplicate title is required for this transaction, which carries a small fee and was factored into the final offer.
We invite all customers to join the appraisal process so they can see what we see and understand how a vehicle's specifications and condition affect its valuation. Our team should have walked you through the trim correction clearly at the appointment so you could see exactly why the valuation changed.
