While we do provide an online valuation estimate for the convenience of our customers, this is based on the limited information you tell us about the vehicle. It is not a substitute for a physical appraisal, and we always do it before we make a final offer.

The appraisal process includes physical and mechanical checks of the vehicle, running a vehicle history check through providers such as Experian or CARFAX, and we run OBDII diagnostics on the vehicle to check for any engine or drivetrain issues. If the appraisal finds any issues with the car, these are always considered part of our final offer.

Unfortunately, there were quite a few issues we found during the appraisal that were not declared during the online valuation process. For example, the check engine light was illuminated, both the bumpers were damaged and need to be replaced along with warm air from the air conditioning which also requires repairs.

In addition, while checking the vehicle's diagnostic computer using a standard OBDII reader tool, a P0446 (Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction) fault was detected. The other big ticket item was the structural damage on the undercarriage rocker panel assembly due to severe rust.

Our objective is to buy the car at a price reflective of its resale value, taking into account any issues which have a tangible impact on the resale value. Buying the car at a price that is fair to the customer and allows us to take a modest margin is the aim and we're sorry the price did not meet your expectations.

Area Manager, Roger has been trying to contact you by phone and email without success. We’ve been trying to have a conversation so we can listen to your feedback and see what we can do to restore your faith in We Buy Any Car.

No two vehicles are the same and we price vehicles based on their condition. During appointments we perform a physical appraisal of the vehicle. Unlike dealerships, we invite you to join us during this process so you can see what we see. It’s part of our commitment to transparency and education. During the process we inspect the physical and mechanical condition of the vehicle, including running third-party checks on the vehicle. We’re not worried about normal wear and tear but major issues that would impact the safety and value of the vehicle.

Unfortunately, during the in-branch inspection of your 2012 Ford Escape with 204,135 miles we discovered damage that negatively impacted the value. Our leadership team did a full review of the inspection notes and photographs and confirmed there were several areas of concern that we previously were unaware of prior to your appointment. We must take all physical and mechanical issues into account when pricing a vehicle, and reconditing items like signs of rust and upper engine concerns, negatively impacted what we could offer.
