The experience of co-creating with Western Publishing on my kid's book was a very positive one indeed. Their invaluable contribution laid in making the story compelling for young readers, not just in terms of the narrative itself but also in terms of the way every aspect was presented whether it was the storyline or the kids friendly illustrations. Their creative team provided many wise suggestions and ensured that the book was well designed, colorful, and demonstrative.

Wrote a picture book with very specific characters in mind they way they stood, the expressions they made, the colours around them. Every time I tried describing them to someone it came out vague and I assumed no illustration would get it right on the first try. Sent Western Publishing a detailed brief with references and examples. The first draft came back and the posture was right, the warmth was there, the colour palette matched the mood of the story almost exactly. One round of feedback on the facial expressions and the second version was it. My nephew who the book written for pointed at the main character and said his name without being told. That told me everything.

Eight Months of the same book sitting on Amazon with barely any traction and I kept blaming the algorithm. My editor finally said what I didn't want to hear the cover was putting people off before they even read the description. Went to Western Publishing specifically for the redesign. they asked about the genre. the tone, the kind of reader I was writing for. The first concept they sent back stopped me mid scroll. Two small tweaks later it was done. Uploaded the new cover without changing a single word inside and sales picked up within the first two weeks. Same book. Different cover. Completely different reaction.

Never though a self published book could look this good My biggest fear going into self-publishing was that my book would look cheap compared to traditionally published ones. The cover, the formatting, the interior layout - I assumed it would be obvious that I did it independently. Western Publishing proved me completely wrong. The cover design went through two rounds of revisions and the final version looks like something pulled off a Barnes & Noble shelf. The formatting was clean on every device and in print. When I handed a physical copy to my sister she flipped it over looking for the publisher name expecting it to be a big house. That reaction told me everything I needed to know.
