Worst car rental experience ever!!!

ATTENTION: SCAM! Worst car rental experience ever! Please be careful!

I've rented cars in many different countries, but the experience with Wheego at Tirana airport was by far the worst. Even though the office doesn't make an unprofessional impression, the employees speak decent English and the car was in good condition, you can tell from the first moment that their main goal is to rip people off. They try to sell you their overpriced insurance and then of course charge you a tremendous amount for every extra (like crossing the border to a neighbor country). They must have taken that over from the mother company in Germany, where an extra day costs more than the actual rent for a week and where they give you cars without winter tyres in snowy January. Like that the orginal comporatively low basic amount already becomes quite a bit more than expected. But well, if it only had been that...
The nightmare is waiting for you when you return the car. Understandably they're very accurate when it comes to the inspection of scratches. I returned the car with a tiny little scratch which wouldn't even have been particularly noticeable. They charged me 280 € for that. As if that weren't enough, they told me that I allegedly drove on a forbidden road to Lake Koman (one of Albania's most popular tourist attractions) and demanded a 500 € fine for it. I couldn't believe what I just heard, especially since I had asked another employee when I picked up the car if it's possible to drive to Valbona and he confirmed that. The only realistically drivable way to Valbona is via Lake Koman where the road is not paved, but in a reasonable state. The other much longer road is apparently in a distinctly worse condition. I also insured them that I was driving very carefully everywhere I went and even washed the car from the inside and the outside before returning it. But they didn't care. They insisted that I pay the 500 € right away and wouldn't even if give me the invoice for the damage of 280 € before I have settled the full amount. So overall I'm leaving their office with a total additional payment of 780 €. Considering that the basic rent was 100 €, we're talking about eight times the actual rent—that's insane! What a horrible experience! Now I understand all the negative reviews that Wheego has received and can only recommend: Don't fall for these scam artists and get your car from a different car rental company. Wheego- never again!!!!!

Avoid Avoid wheego

Avoid Avoid wheego at East Midlands. I was contacted by wheego just as I was boarding my flight. I confirmed that I would be late and that i still wanted the car. When i landed i phoned to advise that i would be with them very soon. Wheego told me that my booking was cancelled. They left me stranded without a car at night in the rain. THEY WILL NOT ISSUE A REFUND.

This company is an outright scam

This company is an outright scam. They handed over the car with visible scratches and marks already on it, failed to properly document the vehicle’s condition, and then later used those same pre-existing damages as an excuse to keep my deposit.

This is a deliberate and dishonest tactic to take money from customers. It is completely unethical and, frankly, feels like a setup from the start.

Do yourself a favor: never use this company under any circumstances. Take your business elsewhere unless you want to risk being unfairly charged and dealing with a company that clearly does not operate in good faith.

Rip off merchants

Rip off merchants. I was made to pay 200 pounds insurance as I picked up the car. The reason given was that my credit card had first initial and surname on it rather than full first name.

Absolute Scam Company. Returned car with no damage, took photos. They have now claimed damage on the car and are working with a third party debt company that keep adding charges. You cannot pay by card only transfer. Not worth the legal fees to pursue so having to pay over 700 Euros. Avoid like the plague!!! DO NOT USE! DO NOT USE! DO NOT USE!!

Very good experience and excellent service.

It was a very good service, well priced. we book the car from Marrakesh airport, unfortunately they don’t have an office at the airport but they will come and pick you up and take you to their office where you will find your car ready.
Mr. Lahcen was very welcoming and very helpful, it was an excellent service and experience, I highly recommend Wheego Car rental company in Marrakesh.

Borderline scam

Check in took almost 2 hours from arriving at the office to getting the keys. The credit card deposit required was extreme (£1600!!!) and the clerk advised it is common practice to keep this deposit for 2 months after car return (not the card details, the actual money). Upon drop off the clerk refused to acknowledge, sign or provide any form of paperwork that the car had been returned correctly fueled and without damage. When I asked for some sort of proof the clerk me called rude. I am still waiting for my deposit to be returned. The car itself worked though

Do not use this scamming company

Do not use this company. Scamers.

I rented a car using my own insurance and returned it in the same condition I received it. When I brought the car back, the staff pointed to a small scratch inside the car and claimed it was caused by the seatbelt. The scratch was clearly old and even had dust on it, so it definitely did not happen during my rental.
Despite explaining this, they charged me 2,400 Polish zlotys/ 1100€ for the damage.
When I asked to speak with a manager, the staff laughed and told me the manager would only be available in two and a half hours and was not working at that moment, meaning there was “no one to talk to.” They said this while knowing I had a flight to catch, which was very disrespectful and unprofessional.
The staff were rude and completely unhelpful. It honestly felt like they were just trying to charge extra money from customers, especially if you use your own insurance instead of buying theirs.

DO NOT USE WHEEGO!!

DO NOT USE WHEEGO!!! They claimed I damaged vehicle and lost the rear deck lid to the hatchback. Very small dent was already on car when I picked up and they claimed it was a large dent after inspection. They provided no proof of damage. Difficult to communicate with and pay to get rid of claim. They are probably claiming this dent to everyone who rents this car. STAY AWAY!! Lost $952.00 because lawyer fees are too high to fight their bogus claims. They are liars!!!

Avoid would not use this company…

Absolutely would not use this company again.
The car was not fit for purpose, It was absolutely filthy. Was highly pressured into taking their expensive insurance Late at night and in an unfamiliar place, yet, When I had an issue, they would not come and replace the car, They told me to bring the car back, even though the engine was failing. All the lights were coming on and they told me it was okay. I said I would make the four hour journey to take the car back, They didn’t reply for ages and left me waiting when they finally did reply they didn’t let me know in time if it was okay to bring it back they told me an hour before they were closing to bring it back, which was impossible. The car went to limp on the motorway, almost causing a crash, The car wouldn’t start on the morning I had to drive to the airport so I nearly missed my plane. I barely used the car as was too scared to go far. Despite numerous attempts to get them to come and change the car as I was assured would do by taking out their extra insurance. They just kept on telling me that it was safe to drive even though it kept on going limp and saying that there was an engine failure.!
A Friend of mine also used this company within this time and they refuse to give them a car as they wouldn’t take out the extra insurance and left them stranded on the side of the road.
After 25 years of hiring cars in Spain, this has to be the worst company. The whole experience left me very anxious and worried about driving it.

SCAM ARTISTS……BEWARE!!

SCAM ARTISTS……. Beware!!!

1st they scam by insisting that a credit card is absolutely needed and 3 months in date, to get the quoted price. Then they nearly triple the quoted cost.

2nd they quickly walk away, when handing over the car, NOT giving you a walk around to see any damage. ALWAYS MAKE A VIDEO.

3rd when dropping off they usher you away saying they will check the car in, again without giving you a walk around, later calling you with supposed damage.

Scammers !!!!! Avoid at all cost.. just look at all reviews 1st

Avoid at all cost... these are professional scammers .
They Claimed fake reports that car was damaged but I have all photos of car before and after and no new damage was on the car rented by me...
They do not provide photos of previous damage as it would inhibit this scam or give you a checklist of previous damage reports .
Your rental area in secluded area away from airport so you have no option to pay their demands because they will ignore you and leave you standing...
Fortunately im a frequent flyer to alicante and i am now filing a lawsuit in spain next week against this company and I am going to look for full flight and accommodation and loss of earnings for reimbursement s.
I will nail them to the cross if I can .
My credit company now have a fraud investigation opened against this company also .
Please Avoid... their not worth the stress !!!!
If you have had and previous experience like mine ..you can open consumer check in spain to look into your complaint.

Avoid

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid. This business was designed to rip people off no about it - low up front rental charges to attract you then charge you the earth through hidden charges that you didn't know you had even signed for.
I cant say too much about the full details of my experience as it is with the fraud squad pending investigation however do not use this company for car hire - it would be cheaper to charter a private helicopter to your destination!!

For our Vienna holiday

For our Vienna holiday, we rented a car from Ryanair's website for £49 per week. On January 25th, 2026, when we went to the Wheego office at Vienna International Airport, the staff insisted that we take out insurance. When we stated that we did not want it, they made us sign a security contract totaling £1000. When we asked why, they said it was written in the rental policy and that they had made us sign it as a formality, and that they would refund the money if we returned the car undamaged. Since we had rented the car online, we didn't want to cancel and accepted, signed, and took the car. Five days later, we returned the car in the morning and took a video showing that nothing had happened. When we boarded the plane and returned to England, they sent us a fine invoice showing a tiny, almost invisible scratch on the car. Despite me saying that we hadn't done anything like that and asking where it was, they kept putting it in an inconspicuous place. They withdrew money from our account saying that, and our lawyer is currently investigating the matter as an unjust enrichment case. Do not rent a car from here!!!

Avoid!! Over €750 hidden costs charged at the desk.

Avoid!!!

Even though the booking was made through Booking.com, Wheego lists and provides its services there and is therefore responsible for all desk policies and fees.

I was forced to advance over €750 at the counter because of undisclosed and misleading policies. Only on arrival was I told that American Express is not accepted for the deposit. When I used a Visa debit card instead, I was informed this voided the insurance I had already purchased on booking.com, leaving me no choice but to buy mandatory insurance for an extra €204.15.

Additional unexpected charges, highway fees, a €199 traffic fines deposit (held for 6 months), VAT, and a €299 pre-authorisation — over €750 paid at the counter, none of which was clearly disclosed upfront- on top of £287.28 paid beforehand on booking.com!!

Stressful, misleading, and unacceptable. Complete scam. Stay clear of this company!

Manchester office much better than…

Manchester office much better than expected: cheep, easy and good services. I thought from reviews I was going to be ripped off. I was hostile, look pictures of every inch of car in front of them before and after, but no problem, my deposit returns, self check in allowed me to just drop the keys. The pick up is in a hotel next to airport but this was a 5 min walk from terminal and station.
