Very disappointing experience with wheego

Very disappointing experience with Wheego.

I rented a car from this company in December, but after the rental was completed, additional charges were taken from my card without proper explanation or clear justification.

I did not receive any rental agreement or detailed breakdown of these charges, which is highly concerning. Attempts to contact customer support were unsuccessful — no response or clarification was provided.

This lack of transparency and communication is unacceptable.

I strongly recommend carefully documenting everything and being cautious when dealing with Wheego.

I rented a car at the airport using my own insurance and returned it in the same condition I received it. When I brought the car back, the staff pointed out a small scratch inside the car that they claimed was caused by the seatbelt. However, the scratch was clearly old — it even had dust on top of it — so it was definitely not something I did during my short rental.
Despite explaining this, they still charged me 2,400 Polish zlotys for the damage, which I find extremely unfair and very disappointing. It feels like customers are being held responsible for pre-existing issues.
When I asked to speak with a manager, the staff actually joked to my face and told me the manager would only be available in two and a half hours and wasn’t working at that moment, so there was “no one to talk to.” They said this knowing very well that I had a flight to catch. I found this extremely disrespectful and unprofessional.
The staff were very rude and completely unhelpful throughout the process. It honestly felt like they were only there to take extra money and sela the owen insurance to the customers. If you don’t buy their insurance and instead use your own private insurance, it's likely they will charge you for something. I also heard similar complaints from other clients while I was there.
I strongly don't recommend this car rentel!

Scams at Wheego car hire Manchester

We arrived at the Wheego office at Manchester airport late at night after booking car hire &paying for full insurance with Jetcar hire company, we had all the paperwork fully paid which we presented to the receptionist who read through it then at the end said " you can´t pay with this credit card as it does not have your full Christian name only your initial. We had shown other photographic evidence but he insisted we pay for their insurance & then the credit card would be accepted. We had no choice as we are elderly & wanted to get on our way.
He was rude & arrogant, we had to find the car ourselves in the dark there was no sat nav which was supposed to be included. W wish we had read all the previous customer reviews first.
Never again.

Avoid unless you want to be scammed!

Summary: Avoid this company – misleading information, unprofessional conduct, and clear pressure tactics turned a simple car rental into a stressful and expensive experience.

I rented a car through Booking.com at Katowice (Pyrzowice) Airport on Sunday 1st February. I’ve rented from this airport before without issues, but this time – with a different provider – it was a complete disaster.

Firstly, the company has no desk or cars at the airport. This was not clearly shown when comparing options. After landing, I had to call for collection and was told someone would arrive in 5 minutes. I waited over 20. I was then taken to an off-site location where the paperwork was completed inside a car – there was no proper office at all. It felt extremely unprofessional.

The biggest issue was that they refused to accept my credit card because it shows my initials (first and middle name) and full surname. This is how my bank issued it and I’ve used it many times for car rentals, including previously at this airport. However, the representative then said he would accept the card if I bought their insurance package (around £200 for five days). I have annual excess insurance and declined. I offered to pay the £1000 deposit as required, but this was refused.

It was hard not to conclude that the “card issue” only existed because I declined their insurance. It felt like a clear attempt to pressure me into paying extra.

I contacted Booking.com support on the spot and was told the card should be accepted. The agent offered to email the rental company, but I was informed their customer service was closed because it was Sunday. I asked for a manager – none was available.

In the end, I was left stranded and had to rent from a reputable company at the airport for around £200.

The whole experience felt misleading and predatory. The cheap headline price is not worth the stress or the risk of being pushed into unnecessary insurance. I strongly advise others to avoid this company.

Absolutely terrible

Just a farce we were told to whats app message on arrival at Milan Malpensa which we did. There was no response. We rang no response. The directions told us to go to T2 which took 45 minutes. We were meant to go to Gate 10 surprise no such place!. So we rang no answer. Finally found right place no shuttle we rang over 40 times no answer. In the end the only option was to take a take a taxi . The car we were given looked like it had been used in a ram raid!. We asked for a refund of our taxi fare and were told we'd get it when we returned the car. But basically they told us to wait at the counter where we were ignored for 25 minutes. I will never ever use them again

Tried to steal money from my account

Tried to steal money from my account six months after rental. Got a message from my bank asking if I had approved a £211 payment to Wheego. Had rented a car from them in Poland six months previously, with no issues (except for stupidly expensive insurance). Car went back totally perfect. Months later they try to sneak over £200 from my account. Avoid like the plague!

Scammers first told me that my credit…

Scammers first told me that my credit card can’t be used as it’s less than 6 months until expiry. No such requirement was sent to me beforehand by anyone including the 3rd party booking website. They have insisted on buying their 300€ cover instead which I have laughed at and became angry, told them that I will go next door and they will pay for my rental there, at which point they have accepted my credit card and gave me the car, but a compact SUV and not midsize as booked. Could barely fit in this thing with the family but we just wanted to be on our way after being kept waiting and arguing with them in the cold with small children. Everything fine during the trip but more fun on return. The jokers have found a tiny chip on the windscreen which was probably there already and took the whole deposit of 4800 PLN which was £1075 on my card. Few days later sent me a quote for the windscreen replacement that was 1300€! They have ignored any questions from that point (like if this can be repaired?). Huge respect to rentalcovers.com for refunding the full 4800 PLN to me within 3 days without any questions. (£40 cover bought in advance) About £100 lost due to the currency exchange difference, £20 for the car for 8 days and £80 for cross border charge to Slovakia which is another joke (its EU, there’s no borders). They tried to charge me for the cleaning of the car as well but I took pictures and didn’t accept it as it was not dirty, so they didn’t. Pictures attached so let me know if you still see that chip on the windscreen there. I won’t use them again and think they should not be allowed to operate. I will report them to the ministry of Tourism and Prokuratura as they are damaging the reputation of the country with this fraud business model. I have contacted their main depot in Germany and no one replies as well. They must be getting a lot of complaints, just look at all the other comments. Car rental should be stress free not that you bother people on their holiday about some minor scratches and hold their money, a car is a moving object so it will obviously get some scratches. Whoever is behind this scam should be prosecuted and people need to report it for the benefit of all!

Scam and very rude

I recently had a terrible experience with wheego that I feel compelled to share. When I arrived to rent a car, they offered me to buy extra insurance which I had opted not to do because I already bought full cover . After that they been trying to find small print to refuse my credit card. Instead of taking deposit and give us a car the staff was incredibly rude, using offensive language and dismissing us outright.

What made this situation even worse was that I was with my 85-year-old mother, who was understandably upset by the treatment we received. We were effectively thrown out of the rental office without any consideration for our circumstances. I expected a level of professionalism and respect, but instead, we encountered hostility and a complete lack of customer service.

I strongly advise anyone considering this company to think twice. It’s unacceptable to treat customers this way, especially those in vulnerable situations. I won't be returning and will be sharing this experience widely.

to absolutely avoid

When you pick up the vehicle at Manchester airport, Wheego makes you sign a document explaining that your deposit is reduced to £500 instead of £1800 because you purchased insurance charged by the provider, Carjet. You sign it quickly and confidently on your phone, but in reality, they've upgraded your insurance and made you take out a new policy. As a result, you never get your £500 back. It cost me €600 instead of €75. When you call the Wheego counter in Manchester, they confirm that you'll be reimbursed within 30 days. And when you write to their head office, they reply that you signed it. These are thuggish tactics. Stay away from them!

AVOID THIS SCAM COMPANY…

Booked through Discover Cars comparison site so thought this would be a reputable company and didn’t read previous reviews or wouldn’t have booked.

Landed at Liverpool airport, walked to the pick up point which is outside the airport at end of a car park. Friendly guy picked us up and drove 5 minutes to office to do paperwork.

Gave licence and credit card in drivers name to be told they could not accept as it just had his initial not full first name, ex J Bloggs rather than Joe Bloggs. He said that card could belong to Julie Bloggs so I suggested ringing Barclaycard and doing security and they could confirm was partners card after speaking to him. He said no couldn’t do that but we could take out comprehensive insurance at an extra £200 which would allow us to take car that we had already paid for.

We Said no and that we had already took out additional comprehensive insurance through a stand alone company and he said that would not work in this situation.

We said forget it and we would go back to airport and hire from somewhere else, he then said he would give us an nhs discount even though none of us works for nhs and could do it for an extra £100 instead and that we would lose the initial payment we made anyway if we went somewhere else.

At this point we had flown from Belfast to Liverpool, driven away from the airport and had to get to a special family occasion in wales so we were stranded and under duress paid this fee.

We were to return the car by 8pm n the Sunday and he said they closed at 6pm so if we were not here by 6 to drop key in drop box. He said if we dropped it back before 6 they would drop us back to airport.

We left our family occasion early to make sure we would be there before closure to get lift back to airport and ensure no other issues with this company. We rang them at 3pm and several times after this with no answer. We arrived at 5:45 pm and nobody was there so we had to then get an Uber back to airport.

Reading other reviews after the fact we were made aware this is a scam they use regularly with Barclaycard users. This was also the same card that we booked and paid with originally so if there was an issue with just the first initial we should have been told that then.

Will never use this company again even if it was cheaper as it ended up costing us more in the long run and a disappointing start to what should have been a nice trip.

Disaster Wheego experience

I had a car booked with Wheego in advance but was denied the vehicle due to a minor name difference on my credit card. The card displays a shortened version of my name, which is standard practice by many banks.

I spent over two hours trying to resolve the issue on site. I provided multiple forms of official identification. None of this was accepted, and the decision appeared to be based on individual discretion.

The refusal was based on the desk staff’s personal judgment. They made minimal effort to help and were rude and dismissive throughout.

What made things even more difficult was the lack of customer support. There was no local customer service line available to assist. The only phone number listed on the website was for Germany, and when I called, they were unable to help as they do not handle bookings in Poland, leaving me without any support.

After leaving Wheego, I went to another rental company at the same airport and rented a car within minutes using the same documents and credit card, with no issues at all. This clearly shows that my documentation and payment method met standard rental requirements.

Based on this experience, I would not recommend anyone to rent from this company. The inconsistent verification process, reliance on personal judgment, lack of accessible customer support, and unhelpful staff make this company unreliable for travelers.

No recommend at all.

Best
Tom

I rented a car from Wheego

I rented a car from Wheego, based near Birmingham airport. Getting there was a bit of a bother as it required me to take the airport shuttle (free) then call and wait to be picked up and taken to their office about 5 minutes drive away. Once there, the process for renting was similar to other car rental agencies. I found the staff there (Malek, and an equally friendly young man) to be pleasant to deal with, and very helpful. The car was almost new, they insisted I nevertheless take a video as a matter of good practice. I would use them again. The staff and rental experience 5 star, just getting there was a little bit of a bother.

Annoying fee for speed ticket

I had a very disappointing experience with Wheego. First, they were the hardest company to locate at Frankfurt Airport, which was already frustrating. Then, when I returned the car, the drop-off staff were unfriendly and unhelpful.

What really pushed me over the edge was the €39 “administrative fee” they charged me after a minor traffic fine. This charge is outrageously greedy: the process on their end is completely automated, yet they justify this excessive fee as “administrative work.” It feels like bullying customers out of extra money without real justification.

I would not recommend Wheego to anyone. There are plenty of other rental companies that treat customers more fairly and with more respect.

Stay away from this company you have been warned.

Left stranded at airport, flight was delayed, but as requested I'd supplied flight number as requested so they'd know and ammend collection times etc.
Collection from airport didn't happen but at that point I was informed that it had been cancelled due to late collection. I was then offered they'd reinstate it for €315 original payment €74.... Complete scam BTW I declined

0 stars if that was possible- AVOID this company

Would give them 0 stars if that was possible. Nearly an hour for check in. Made aware of some scratches and a chip in the wind screen as usual. €900 deposit- again usual. I did return the car with 3 or 4 new scratches and a tiny bend on the number plate- all so minuscule that neither me nor my friend had seen them when I had admittedly hit a boulder stone that I had not seen when parking in the dark(unfortunately this car for once did not have a sensor which is clearly not their responsibility). I was sent a bill for €900 repairs (amazing how this was the exact amount of the deposit) and then to top it off some trumped up charges for the administration of it. I replied that this was ridiculous to charge me €900 for repairs that most likely would never be carried out and that, living abroad, it got too complicated to fight against those alleged repair charges, but that I would send the additional €100 once they had sent me photos of the completed repairs. Initially no response but a reminder for my outstanding bill. I resent my original response and got a reply this time. There was a misunderstanding and the €100 were for the repair as they could not deduct that from the deposit. Once they received the €100 I would get my full deposit back. Thought weird but ok… transferred the €100 and waited…and waited.. asked where my deposit was. Got a reply that the person who had sent me the previous email had got it wrong - I would not get my money back!!
Lost for words- what fraudsters!!!!

SCAM COMPANY at Renaissance hotel in Warszaw

SCAM COMPANY!! STAY AWAY!!

Renaissance airporthotel in Warszaw is housing Wheego. A five start hotel housing a scam company like Wheegoo. A disgrace!!

Absolute untrustworthy company and total scam. First they asked "do you have insurance?" I said "yes I have my own!" Then they went over the car with a magnifying glass and found 2 absolutely barely visible scratches on a black Peugeot car, which is in itself full off tiny scratches. Impossible to document them all when picking up the car!!

Secondly!! There is NO INDICATION of where the car park is, to return the car. So returning the car, I accidentally parked on the wrong carpark nextdoor, which cost me an extra 20 zloti.

SCAM COMPANY. STAY AWAY!!

Steer wheel clear of Wheego!

Steer wheel clear of Wheego!
These people are difficult and dishonest.

I booked my car hire through easyJet. I had never heard of Wheego, but when I saw their name on the car rental voucher, having personally always had good experiences with easyJet, I assumed that for easyJet to be associated with them, then Wheego must be fine. I was completely wrong.

The first problem was that for the £800 holding deposit, they will only accept a credit card that had the full first name and surname of the main driver on it. So my preferred credit card, which only had my initial and surname was completely unacceptable no matter what evidence I showed, e.g. my banking app ecetera. I had read my agreement before arriving and so did have another card with my name, which I preferred not to use but had to. I had already taken out damage refund insurance via easyJet/AXA and so didn't want the Wheego version of the same thing. However Wheego suggested I could cancel that insurance and take their equivalent, and if I did, then I could buy that with my preferred credit card, and drive the car away! I think this shows the difficulty they create about the credit card is more to do with them twisting your arm into buying their, expensive, insurance, rather than a genuine issue with the card. Maybe if I had their insurance there would not have been an issue when I returned the car, but more on that later.

The rental agreement said I would be given a car which would fit 5 people and 3 suitcases. This would have been impossible in the car I was given. The car was under-powered, but apart from that drove OK.

Wheego don't send someone with you to the car to confirm damage. Instead, they attach to the rental agreement a very unclear diagram and description of the damages on the car - of which there were many and they expect you to match them up. In the blazing heat, after a somewhat arduous admin experience, I tried to match the damage on the report to the damage seen on the car, and to see if I could spot anything else among the carnage. The damage seemed to match the report. I drove the car for 5 days. It was parked in a garage overnight. I had no collisions with anything. When I returned the car, the Wheego operative went to inspect the car. I had no concerns because I knew there was no additional damage from me. He scanned the car very quickly, but then went straight to a wheel on the far side of the car and "discovered" scratches on the alloy wheel. These were not the kind of scratches people get around the edge when they hit a kerb. These were thin, but deliberate radial score marks made with a sharp object. The way he went straight to them made me almost certain he knew they were there already. I obviously protested and asked for evidence of the condition of the wheel before I took the car. He handily had that available immediately and showed be a totally blurred image which was definitely a wheel, but which could have been from any car and the marks, if there, would not have been clearly shown. The guy was incredibly smug and suggested it shouldn't be a problem because I had insurance which would be easy to claim from. I said the point was they were charging for damage I was not responsible for. He couldn't care less. He then charged almost £400 to my credit card to repair the damage. A brand new wheel, fitted would cost under £200.

In sum, Wheego are thieves. DO NOT EVER rent a car from them.
