Took the money, did not fix the roof, stopped responding

I booked Mr. Wilson (the business owner) to fix a leaking roof. He quoted £1,200 to attend and fix the leak. I agreed to the price as Mr. Wilson sounded very confident and convincing on the phone. He assured me he was very experienced and the leaky roof would be fixed.

On the day of the job, his two workers worked on the roof for about an hour. Mr. Wilson confirmed the repair was complete.

Two days later, the roof leaked again at the same spot.

I called him to ask them to return to fix the roof.

Mr. Wilson sent the same two young guys, who spent a total of 15 minutes without looking in the loft to check where exactly the roof was leaking into the bedroom.

I was assured a fix has been provided and the roof would not leak again.

Guess what? The roof leaked the next time it rained.

I called and texted Mr. Wilson on numerous occasions. At first, I was given a vague explanation as to why the roof was leaking: "We changed a couple of tiles, so it should've been fine." However, I was told I needed a new roof. Then, the owner of the business stopped responding to messages and calls.

To say that my experience with this company has been poor is an understatement. They charged me £1,200 and left me with a leaking roof. Zero improvement on my current situation. They used the emergency situation I was in (a leaking roof is no laughing matter) to charge an extortionate price for the couple of hours of work they did.

I am unsure whether they couldn't or didn't want to fix the roof. What I am sure of is I don't want to have anything to do with this person or business in the future. In my opinion, they did not provide a service worthy of a reputable roofing business that stands firmly behind their work.

I do not recommend this business, nor Mr. Wilson, to people who need their leaking roofs repaired.
