Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the pricing structure, finding it to be unfair and overpriced due to unexpected increases and a lack of transparency. This led to a poor user experience, with many feeling that the product became unusable and unpredictable. Reviewers also reported issues with the product itself, noting that its performance declined and it no longer met their needs. Some people were dissatisfied with the service, citing a lack of respect for users and poor communication regarding changes. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that the subscription was initially good value, and that the tool helped speed up their workflow and was genuinely useful for real development.

New usage limits

Based on what I experience right now cursor just bumped up their pricing even for such old models as codex 5.2. Prices scyrocketed about 5x times. idk the reason yo use this any more, to me it seems extremely bad and stupid transition, the tool right now is simply unpredictible and not compelling at all

They completely ruined a pretty decent product, turning it into a money-burning machine. They did it overnight.

And it's all because of their Quota system. The previous points plan in PRO allowed for predictable management of their use. You could create something really cool overnight. The current plan means you hit your quota limit in a few minutes. If you don't pay extra, you can't do anything. You wait for the next day, and it's the same thing. On top of that, there’s the Weekly Quota, and it's exactly the same there. You don't know how much quota your next request will use. It’s completely unpredictable, and you have no control over it.

So, link your credit card, turn on autorefill, work as you did before, and even though you still have PRO, watch your money evaporate minute by minute.

Predatory Pricing Change

I am writing to formally request the immediate cancellation of my Windsurf subscription and a full refund of my remaining balance.
Let me be direct: the March 19th pricing overhaul is not a ‘simplification.’ It is a deliberate degradation of service value disguised behind corporate language.
I, along with thousands of other loyal subscribers, chose Windsurf specifically because of its transparent, credit-based model. We paid for a defined unit of value. That value proposition has now been unilaterally and retroactively destroyed.
The new quota system is not simpler, it is deliberately opaque. A single Claude Opus prompt consuming a disproportionate chunk of a weekly allowance is not a ‘scaling with complexity’ feature. It is a mechanism designed to accelerate consumption, drive users toward overage charges, and manufacture artificial urgency. The Trustpilot reviews flooding in since March 19th confirm I am not alone in this assessment.
Your CEO’s email framed this as a user experience improvement. With respect, that framing is insulting!…. If Windsurf need more revenue (a completely understandable business need), the correct move would have been to raise credit prices transparently. Your user base, myself included, would have accepted that. Instead, you chose a model that maximizes unpredictability on the user’s end while guaranteeing revenue predictability on yours! That is not a product decision made in users’ interests.
The fact that your own pricing announcement email acknowledges the option to ‘cancel and request a prorated refund’ confirms that this refund is a reasonable and anticipated request, not an exception.
I am therefore requesting:
1. Immediate cancellation of my subscription.
2. A full prorated refund for the unused portion of my current billing period.
3. Refund of any unconsumed add-on credits at the rate I originally paid.
I expect a response and confirmation of this request within 5 business days. If this is not resolved promptly, I will be escalating through my payment provider and filing a formal complaint with the relevant consumer protection authorities.
I genuinely hope someone at Windsurf with decision-making authority reads the community feedback pouring in right now, because what is happening is not a pricing experiment. It is a trust collapse.

From Useful Tool to Money Pit

I subscribed to Windsurf Pro, then paid extra for more usage, and one single task on Claude Opus 4.6 Thinking nearly wiped out the balance. That is absurd.

The new quota/extra-usage system feels confusing, overpriced, and nowhere near transparent enough. A paid coding tool should not make users feel like every prompt is a financial risk.

This update destroyed my trust in the platform. I wanted a reliable AI coding assistant, not a product where usage disappears instantly and the pricing is so unclear.

I’m canceling because this no longer feels fair or predictable.

And a nastier one:

Windsurf turned a useful product into a money-burning machine. I paid for Pro, added extra usage, and one task nearly drained everything. Ridiculous pricing, terrible transparency, and a system that feels designed to punish paying users for actually using the app.

If one prompt can wipe out your balance, that should be made painfully obvious before you click send. Right now it just feels deceptive.

Canceled.

$2 usage credits for one small prompt after update

Was 4-5 stars before the new quota, now I could give it -1 if I could.

10 simple Claude Opus 4.6 (not thinking, not larger context, NOT FAST - STANDARD) used up my Daily Quota of a $20/month.

Furthermore, last prompt went over my daily quota AND ate up FULL $2 USD of my usage credits I had topped up. ONE. SMALL. PROMPT.

$2 used to be 100 credits, you could've sent 15 such prompts. NOBODY RAISES PRICES 10-20x OVERNIGHT.

New quota plan is very bad

The new quota plan is really an exploitation. I spent my time and my experience introducing windsurfing to my colleagues. So after converting the old credit to $, I only use them in 5 minutes, and my extra usage credits are burning out. Even if I use the whole of my daily quota, I will run out of the weekly quota in 2 days. That's an unfair strategy. Thanks my old Windsurf, It's a time I really consider to change my workflow to another fairing provider

I used to high rating this Ide for developer, which is really user-oriented. But for the latest update for the quota, it hard to believe this is for user with that much charge. You will run out of the quotas as much as you ever seen. This is madness..

WindSurf - Non existing support

I am doing some critical development work through the WindSurf IDE. A few days ago I got a notice that I was shoert on funds and i immediately tried to rectify it by taking out a Pro subscription. The notices about funding did not disappear and I could not work. Out of desperation I took out another Pro subcription but nothing changed. I then realise that my account was linked to a different email so I went there and bought some extra tokens. Still they kept blocking me and I could not do any work. Then I started sending emails asking for a resolution of the problem from 2 different emails attaching proof of payments. They just ignored all my emails now for 3 days. They absolutely dont care if thie customers can work or not.

I have had a very good experience with…

I have had a very good experience with Windsurf so far. The overall coding experience feels smooth, modern, and much more practical for daily development work. It helps speed up my workflow, especially when I need to build features quickly, understand existing code, or test different ideas without wasting time.

One thing I like most is that it feels genuinely useful during real development, not just for small demos. It can help with writing code, improving structure, and reducing repetitive work. That makes a big difference when working on larger projects or handling multiple tasks at the same time. The interface is also clean and comfortable, so it is easy to stay focused.

Compared to other AI coding tools I have tried, Windsurf gives a better balance between usability, performance, and value. It feels like a tool made for developers who want to work faster without making the process more complicated. In my case, it has been helpful for both simple tasks and more advanced full-stack development work.

Overall, I think Windsurf is a strong product and a very good choice for developers who want an AI coding assistant that is practical, efficient, and easier to justify in terms of value. My experience has been very positive, and I can recommend it.

I've been using cursor for over a year now but I've decided to switch to windsurf.

After I got charged $50 I stopped the auto refill. Next a few days later they charged me $100 and I saw they turned the auto refill again and charged me double for the same amount of credits (a lousy 250 credits).

I spent $2000 on my membership and credits at Windsurf, but they now lost me due to this fraud.

We need regulations in software.

We need regulations in software.

Is amazing any mediocre company can charge any amount and deliver the single most terrible service and experience and no one has consequences.

Is not about loosing $1 usd or $1,000,000 is about making parasites and mediocre people money when they do not deserve it.

I stongly advise users to avoid this product with 0 value.

For $5 more dollars you get curso that is x100 better and unlimited.

What kind of scam is having credits in the 3rd decade of 2000s? thats insane.
