Good people but be careful

Unfortunately due to Covid 19 my order with World of Smile never happened and they refunded my deposit. They were due to replace my existing conservatory with new windows, door and warm roof and knock through a wall to connect it to my kitchen. Having had builders now carry out this work, I discovered that had WoS done the work as planned (deposits paid and parts were ordered before they had to pull out), it would have been illegal. No building control was sought for the work of knocking down the wall. I specifically asked the director Jon about this, and he assured me it wasn't needed. This is correct for the warm roof, but not for the other work which has required a very over-spec steel, drainage survey and insulation in order to be signed off by my council. My building engineer also looked at WoS plans and questioned whether the supports would have been adequate for the roof. Just be careful and triple check yourself what is needed for the job. They also were going to do a garden room which in our rural location has meant involving all the utility companies for access, sewerage, increasing electricity supply etc. It has taken months to get the site ready to accommodate a garden building with power and drainage etc. Again, this was "oh no that won't be a problem" from WoS. I got the impression that they were happy to sell you something but weren't worried about any potential issues that I may encounter in future.
