I wotton stay here

We have just stayed in this rundown grubby poorly run old house, Don't believe the bull on certain sites our room was grubby broken bed a shower that did not work properly poor maintenance in the room and public area's. The food we did order looked bordering on unsafe to eat so we refused to eat there even though the food was in our deal . The manager ducked our meeting so you know they defend rubbish.

Best avoided until improvements are made

I recently stayed at Wotton House Hotel from February 13th to 15th, 2026, and unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing. What should have been a relaxing getaway turned into a frustrating ordeal marked by poor maintenance, subpar dining, and dismissive staff attitudes. From the moment we checked in, the room’s condition raised immediate red flags, and despite our complaints, little was done to address them.
Upon entering the room, we were greeted by visible water damage on the ceiling. Brownish stains streaked across the surface near the light fixture, suggesting a recent or ongoing leak. The photos I took show irregular, yellowish discolorations that look like they’ve been there for a while, with shadows highlighting the uneven texture. This wasn’t just cosmetic; it created an unsettling atmosphere, making us worry about potential structural issues or health hazards. Venturing into the bathroom, the situation worsened. Mold was rampant around the shower enclosure, with black and brownish growths accumulating in the corners, along the seals, and even in the grout lines of the tiles. Additionally, black mold was evident on the window frames, accompanied by visible cobwebs that could have been easily cleaned, further highlighting the neglect in maintenance. Close-up images reveal fuzzy, dark patches mixed with rust-like stains on the metal frames and silicone seals, indicating prolonged moisture exposure. The sink drain was clogged with grimy buildup, and the overall dampness suggested inadequate ventilation or cleaning. It’s unacceptable for a hotel to rent out a room in this state, especially in a bathroom where hygiene is paramount.
Our dining experience at the hotel’s restaurant compounded the dissatisfaction. We were completely unaware that the hotel allows dogs in the restaurant—not only that, but they were off their leads and barking disruptively throughout our meal, creating a chaotic and unhygienic environment that ruined any chance of enjoyment. Adding to this, we ordered steaks, but the server never asked about our preferred doneness. When the dishes arrived, mine was severely undercooked—practically raw in the center, as evidenced by the photos showing pink, juicy interiors that were far from medium-rare. I politely sent it back requesting it be cooked further, but it returned charred and overdone, with a blackened, charcoal-burnt exterior that made it completely unenjoyable, resulting in me having to cut large amounts of the steak off to avoid the burnt bits. This rendered it tough and flavorless overall. The accompanying greens were wilted, and the whole meal felt rushed and poorly executed. It was a waste of time and money, turning what could have been a pleasant evening into an exercise in frustration.
When we raised these issues with the front desk—pointing out the ceiling damage and mold—they were unhelpful at best. We were told no alternative rooms were available for an exchange, and unless water was actively leaking, we shouldn’t worry about it. This cavalier response ignored the obvious health and safety concerns, leaving us feeling undervalued as guests. For a hotel that positions itself as a comfortable retreat, this level of neglect is inexcusable.
Overall, our stay at Watton House Hotel was marred by maintenance failures, a disastrous meal disrupted by unruly dogs, and indifferent service. We left feeling unsatisfied and would not recommend it to others. With better attention to detail, this could be a charming spot, but as it stands, it’s best avoided until improvements are made

Birthday weekend at Wotton House

Just had a lovely birthday weekend at Wotton House in The Surrey Hills AONB. The building, gardens and facilities are superb (room, gym, pool, bar), the dinner was lovely and the service exceptional. The duty manager Majeik, was incredibly welcoming, professional and very human. He suggested and mapped some of the wonderful local walks (Leith Hill Tower highly recommended. We were treated like VIPs and the breakfast was possibly the best we've ever had.
