My experience with Wunderflats highlighted a serious lack of transparency in the booking process.

What is not clear during the booking flow is that placing a booking request can already be considered legally binding under German law. In practice, this means that even though Wunderflats later sends a rental contract for signature, it is essentially just a formality. This was not obvious to me at all during the booking process.

In my case, I booked a flat through the platform. Shortly afterward, another opportunity came up through a private connection: a flat that was both cheaper and in a better location. Since I had not yet signed the rental contract, I assumed I could simply cancel the booking.

However, Wunderflats informed me by email that the booking was already binding, and that the only way out would be to negotiate directly with the landlord. This came as a surprise because this legal implication was not transparent during the booking process.

In the end, resolving the situation cost me €300 in fees to Wunderflats, plus €550 paid to the landlord to cover her Wunderflats-related costs.

I understand that platforms and landlords need protection against last-minute cancellations, but the lack of clarity about when a booking becomes legally binding can easily lead to misunderstandings. Wunderflats could significantly improve the user experience by making these legal implications much clearer and more explicit during the booking process.

I had a great experience with the account manager Bakir. He was always available and he replied very clearly and quickly to all my questions.
