I’ve been a customer of AAMI for over 20 years, but my recent experience has been nothing short of appalling. After making a verbal offer for my cash settlement that was higher than what they later attempted to reduce it to, I felt completely let down. It’s incredibly frustrating to see such disregard for loyal customers. I honestly wouldn’t recommend using them. Save yourself the headache!

Unauthorized $0 Transactions and Poor Complaint Handling

I have been a customer with AAMI for over 15 years across multiple policies. Recently, AAMI processed $0 transactions on my credit card without my knowledge or permission.

These transactions appeared on my credit card statement as external charges. At the time, I was unsure if my card had been compromised, as multiple calls to AAMI did not provide an explanation. This led me to cancel my card, update multiple accounts, and deal with significant stress and inconvenience.

Despite raising the issue, the company provided only a brief apology after I requested it, repeatedly stated that their system “functioned as intended” and that no error or failure occurred, refused compensation, and confirmed that no further internal escalation was available.

While AAMI may consider their system to have “functioned as intended,” the experience demonstrates a lack of consideration for customer impact and accountability. I am disappointed in how this matter was handled and hope future customers do not encounter similar issues.

My sister owns a 2006 Toyota corolla hatchback...one of the most popular cars in the world.

The AAMI system incorrectly identifies her registration as a station wagon. It is not.
All other insurance companies we quoted a new policy with identify it correctly.

My sister spent an hour on the phone today to sort this out, to eventually be told (after he referred to the support team twice), that it should be ok..they'll just make a note on the policy that it's a hatchback.

There are thousands of this model in Australia. I'd suggest AAMI correct the issue at their end before putting a bandaid on it. Can only imagine what would happen at claim time when the wrong body type is brought up.

Completely disgusting "service". My sister is struggling at the moment and did not need this rubbish. They lost our business for good.

Do better

A Fraudulent Insurance Company You Must Avoid

This company is absolutely terrible and feels like it is run by thieves. They show no honesty or integrity at any point. They charge you without hesitation, but the moment you need to make a claim, they use every trick possible to avoid paying. I stayed with them for almost four years and made only one claim, and they still refused to cover it. I will never use them again and I strongly warn others to stay away from this fraudulent insurance company.

A customer support ouroboros!

Basicslly sat in customer support for over and hour and twenty minutes... After being transferred two times already they decided to transfer me back to the first... With that I had come to the conclusion AAMI customer service is a ouroboros, a snake that eats its own head...

Every claim I have had to deal with aami has been a miserable experience. One example is trying to make me pay over 700 to town my car hours away when it does not need to be towed... Avoid at all costs!

Years later People should know.

What went wrong? A good question.
A total lack of integrity and responsibility
by AAMI. Even years later I still get the urge to tell everyone of my experience with this company. That's why I decided I had to write this. AAMI took almost a year to clear my sons car for repairs after we threatened legal action. Their excuse was that they were still investigating because we removed the car from the police impound yard before they lookwd at it. We were ordered by the police to take it as it had sat there for two months. We must have made a hundred calls to AAMI to find out why the car was sitting at the repair shop, nothing started. The mechanic said he hadn't been given the go ahead yet by AAMI. Meantime my son had to ride a bicycle to work every day.

Complaint

Complaint - 19097456 | AAMI Claim - M097998803
Unless you want to suffer from mental agony, BE with AAMI !!!!. On Sunday 05/10/2025 I parked my car at Bulleen Plaza Centre at night & was hit by someone without leaving his/her name, registration & address, causing a severe damage the back of the car. I reported to police. She told me that without the registration, they could not do anything & advised I should ask to tow my car, because its indicator was broken. On Monday 06/10/2025 I reported this accident to AAMI & asked for a tow truck. On 07/10/2025 when towing the car, a man showed another minor damage (a crack) in front of the car. I went to the Piazza Centre to check, because it was hit hard & the car was possibly moved to hit a cement beneath. I immediately reported it to AAMI, a girl promised to update to a panel. 2 days later (09/10/2025), I followed up with the panel when I could collect the car. A girl from the panel told me it was still waiting for an AAMI assessor “sometime next week” !!! & found that my updated the front car damaged was NOT in her file. She instructed me to contact AAMI. I phoned AAMI again. Another girl (also with Indian accent) promised my updated report would send to the panel “NOW”…ON Monday 13/10/2025 I phoned the panel again to find out if AAMI approved to fix my car. A man told me that he still waiting & his file was not updated as the girld from AAMI call centre’s promise !!!!.
To cut a long story short, furious & frustrated, I made 5 phone calls to complains. Unlike previous girls, this helpful & patient girl, Mary told me my complain were “ESCALATED “ to higher senior staff…. On 20/10/2025 I receive a man phone call from AAMI ( with Australian accent). He informed me that AAMI would not accept to fix the front car. I said if he wanted, I would take a photo from Bulleen Centre to show. He replied “ no need” & AAMI would send an email to me later (after review).
On 22/10/2025 I received AAMI email to reject my claim with legal technicality, which I was not sure what was about….!!!! My wife now has to find money to fix the car…….. ( I am retired for years)
Our family members/relatives could not wait for all cars/homes insurances be expired next year 2026 & find alternative ones with ethical & professional services….
LUCKY, YOU ARE WITH AAMI………….!!!!

AAMI clearly don't care about their customers

AAMI clearly don't care about keeping loyal customers. I was with AAMI for over 2 years for my car insurance. Recently, I decided to review my car insurance policy to make it more affordable, as it was already quite expensive. As a result, I managed to reduce my premium. Not even a week later, I received my annual renewal notice, where they had increased my premium by $15 per month. None of my details, including residential address had changed. Given I had only just reduced my premium to make it more affordable, I was less than impressed they were suddenly increasing it by $15, so they don't 'lose out' on making more money. In previous years, my premium has only gone up by $1 or $2 per month. I questioned the increase with customer support, and they could not give me an answer as to why the premium was increased by so much. I stated I would therefore be looking at other companies that provide better insurance at a more reasonable cost. The service rep could not care less. I then had to contact them again in order to cancel my policy, as you can't do this online. They stated they could see if my premium could be reduced by reviewing my details listed under the policy, which I had already done previously, in order to reduce my premium in the first place - so that clearly wasn't going to help. They also stated they do not price match. AAMI provide significantly higher premiums for all of their insurance policies compared to other companies, clearly do not care about retaining loyal customers, and I won't be going back. Do better AAMI.

Worst service ever

Good sales team and terrible call center when you need.
In my case, eventhough i was hitted by a insured car (Allianz) and AAMI will not have to pay anything, they keep postponing. I already called more than 20 times and more than 10 hours spent. Total lack of respect with customers. I had AAMI for my 2 cars over 6 years. Regret, I prefer from now on not having a insurance rather than relying on a bad reputation company.

BEWARE AND COMPARE

BEWARE AND COMPARE
I had been a customer for over 20 years for Car House and Contents Insurance. I had it setup for direct debit monthly so I was slack in comparing what I was paying. Recently I happened to be looking at an email regarding the renewal of my Car Insurance while my son was visiting and I asked how much he pays. His car valued over $60000 where mine is only $6000 but I was paying over $1000 PA
I then starting checking and getting quotes on all my policies and found I could save nearly $3000 PA
I have now changed all my policies and just feel so very disappointed in AAMI as being a loyal customer for so long that they would overcharge.

Worst Landlord Insurance Experience – Do Not Buy AAMI

I have been in property management for many years, and this is by far the worst landlord insurance I have ever dealt with.

AAMI rejected my claim for obvious tenant-caused damage — stained carpets, holes and marks on walls, damaged flooring, and even a broken fence — and instead called everything “general wear and tear, neglect, and lack of regular upkeep, rather than any deliberate or intentional act.”

That’s their excuse for everything! Basically, no matter what kind of tenant damage you face, AAMI will tell you it’s just wear and tear and refuse to pay.

They also don’t really cover rent default — it’s a complete trap. According to their policy, you must lose the equivalent of four weeks’ rent before you’re even eligible for compensation, which makes the so-called “rent default cover” almost useless for landlords. It’s misleading and unfair.

Completely unprofessional and unreasonable. Other insurance companies I’ve used have always covered these types of damages and losses with no problem.

AAMI’s assessor ignored clear evidence and simply found a way to deny the claim. It’s a waste of money and time.

As a property manager, I will never recommend AAMI to any landlord or client again. They do not protect property owners — they only protect themselves.

Do not buy AAMI landlord insurance. You’ll regret it.

Wretched organisation that couldn’t…

Wretched organisation that couldn’t care less for treating people as people.
We had 5 policies with this excuse for an organisation and will be cancelling them all and avoiding Suncorp group entirely following them failing to effectively communicate, set expectations and take money they morally shouldn’t have. Even their own staff member agreed that taking the money they did wasn’t proper and it still changed nothing. They used to be one of the most convenient to contact organisations, now their service is non existent. They didn’t even try to win our business back when we discussed our issues or begun cancelling policies - they just shrugged their shoulders and indicated it wasn’t their problem. They are also horrendously overpriced when we shopped around, outrageously overpriced in comparison to other organisations.
Do not use this organisation or any from the Suncorp group, ever.

Very very disappointed with AAMI that I’ve been so patient when being asked those questions on the phone and I inquired and he said that he will call afterwards to get my husband’s information. It’s been a day and nothing. Unlike other life insurance that they’ll contact you asap and without trouble. AAMI is the complete opposite and quite disappointing. I know they have countless customers before and I’ve heard this is also the reason why many are transferring out due to below par customer service.

1/5 — Extremely Disappointed with AAMI Insurance (Toyota Camry Sedan 2010)

I’ve had an absolutely terrible experience with AAMI Insurance over the past year for my Toyota Camry Sedan (2010 model). I joined AAMI around October 2024 for a comprehensive insurance plan, but my experience from day one has been nothing but stress, frustration, and disappointment.

Just a week after joining, I unfortunately had an accident (my fault due to confusion about red light rules in Australia). I immediately reported it to AAMI on 20th October 2024, provided all photos and police details, and cooperated fully. My car was damaged from the front driver’s side and was towed away, but it took weeks of constant follow-ups from my side to even find out where my car was and when it would be repaired. The communication was terrible — no updates, no transparency.

When I finally got my car back after almost three weeks, it was far from properly repaired. The car wouldn’t start properly, and I got stranded late at night within hours of getting it back. The next day, the car completely broke down again due to engine oil leaking out, leaving me stuck on a freeway. Even after informing both AAMI and the repair centre, I was told they only handle “outer body repairs” and that engine issues were my problem, even though the issue clearly resulted from their poor-quality repairs.

The most shocking part? They handed the car back to me in an unsafe condition, then refused to take responsibility. The repairer later claimed they were “doing me a favour” by fixing it at their own cost, which is unacceptable for a customer who paid for comprehensive coverage.

Ever since then, my car has been making a loud engine noise that was never there before the accident. I reported it several times and even asked AAMI to consider writing off the car, but nothing was done. They arranged another tow truck pickup, but the person who came gave me no paperwork, no receipt, no ID, and later AAMI themselves asked me for the tow truck company’s details — as if they had no record of their own arrangements! They even told me, “If it’s stolen, you can just claim it.” That was beyond irresponsible and unprofessional.

The entire experience showed me that AAMI does not care about its customers, safety, or service quality. I spent the whole year chasing updates, dealing with unresponsive repairers, and driving a damaged, noisy car that was never properly fixed. I have lost complete trust in this company.

AAMI advertises itself as “Australia’s best insurance company,” but based on my experience, that’s completely false and misleading. I’ve been counting down the days to end my policy and move to another insurer.

If you value your peace of mind, time, and safety — avoid AAMI at all costs. They failed me at every step.
