Misleading product photos, robotic customer service and no real empathy

I had one of the worst online shopping experiences I’ve ever had with ABOUT YOU.

I ordered a Michael Kors bag at a premium price, based entirely on the photos and description shown in the app – as you normally do with an online purchase. When the order arrived, the bag I received looked completely different from what was shown in the product photos (different handles, hardware, overall design).

When I contacted customer service, the initial response was that I had received the “correct” product. Only after several emails, sending detailed photos, and even showing screenshots from the official Michael Kors website for the same product code, did ABOUT YOU finally admit in writing that:

the images on their website/app were wrong, and

the bag shown in the photos was not actually available in their offer.

In other words, I paid for a product that only existed in the pictures, not in their real stock.

Despite this, the solutions I was offered were very basic:

free return (which is the legal minimum anyway), and

a discount voucher with a lot of restrictions (limited validity, only for selected items, not valid on reduced items, cannot be combined with other offers, etc.).

What made the experience even worse was the way my complaint was handled:

most replies felt very corporate, generic and scripted,

my messages often seemed to be read “between the lines” – not really understood,

there was little to no genuine empathy,

and no real sense of ownership for a mistake that clearly came from their side (wrong images, product in photos not actually available).

In the end, I did get my money back, but:

I lost time and energy having to prove something that was obvious from the first comparison of photos,

the product I originally wanted was never available in reality,

and my trust in ABOUT YOU’s product presentation and customer care has dropped to almost zero.

I’m not writing this because of the amount I paid, but because of how a clear, objective issue was handled: misleading product photos, delayed admission of fault, generic “template” answers and a lack of truly customer-oriented solutions.

After this experience, I would think twice before recommending ABOUT YOU to anyone.

Great prices for a large variety of garments

Great offers and prices for a large variety of products. I also love the filters, it's so easy to find the right garments by very specific details such as length, necklines, patterns, etc. Easy to order, pay or return when needed. Very serious seller, I highly recommend it.
