I’ve worked with SAP in a professional environment for a considerable amount of time, primarily using it for core business processes such as reporting, workflow approvals, and data management. There’s no doubt that SAP is a powerful and highly capable system, especially for large organizations with complex operational needs.
From a stability and compliance standpoint, SAP does its job well. Once processes are set up correctly, the system is reliable and handles large volumes of data without major issues. I can see why so many enterprises rely on it.
That said, the user experience is where SAP struggles.
Many everyday tasks require navigating through multiple layers of menus, and the interface often feels unintuitive — especially for new or non-technical users. Simple actions can take far longer than expected, not because they’re complex tasks, but because the system is not designed with usability in mind.
Training is another challenge. New users usually need extensive onboarding or documentation just to perform basic functions. Without proper internal guidance, it’s easy to make mistakes or get stuck, which slows down productivity. Even when issues arise, internal troubleshooting can be difficult unless you already know exactly where to look.
Support and documentation are thorough, but not always practical. The information is often very technical and assumes a high level of prior knowledge. For everyday users, it can feel overwhelming rather than helpful.
Overall, SAP is strong, stable, and enterprise-grade, but also rigid and difficult to use. It works best for organizations that have dedicated teams to manage and maintain it. For individual users or teams expecting efficiency and ease of use, the experience can be frustrating.
I wouldn’t call SAP a bad product — it’s clearly built for scale and control — but it prioritizes structure and robustness over user friendliness. That trade-off may be acceptable for some companies, but it’s something users should be prepared for.
