Buying and installing a perpetual license 2026

Buying and installing a perpetual license for ATI 2025 was very easy with no complaints. What does "erk" me is that pertetual licenses were dropped for an annual subscription until customer pressure and probably dropping sales forced Acronis to allow 2025 to be purchased. All good, but I now understand that a perpetual license for ATI 2026 will not be issued. Shame on you Acronis for not looking after your customers!! Sorry if this is incorrect info but as we're in 2026 I doubt it.
After Acronis response below:
1. An Annual subscription of £44 - discounted
2. £63 full annual price.
People may wish to skip a year (unless a discount is offered). Why are these companies so fixed on yearly profit when most customers are are looking for a "honest / reliable" company. Acronis is looking for profit not customer care.
Will remain with ATI until a better company is found.

Hello!

Just to clarify, Acronis moved away from the old perpetual licensing model more than five years ago as part of a broader shift in the product line.

While there are occasionally special upgrade offers that allow users with certain legacy licenses to move to a perpetual version, these are limited promotions and are not the standard licensing model.

The current standard offering is subscription-based, which has been the case for several product generations. Availability of perpetual upgrade offers may vary and is not guaranteed for every new version.

Best regards.

Generally it works very well

Generally it works very well, and in the past I have used it successfully to recover both individual files and entire directories quite easily. The only problem I have is that occasionally I get a "file in use" message which causes Acronis to skip the file or directory on the current and subsequent updates, despite the file not being in use and checking out as intact when accessed directly. This problem seems to be more frequent since I have adopted Windows 11. ChatGPT thinks it may be the OS performing background operations and provided instructions on how to avoid it, but it has become more complicated than the old single button backup I got used to.

It's easy to create backups; but system of listing backups is confusing.

It's easy to create backups, and to restore specific data - altogether reliable. The one thing I find annoying is that when you load an external storage device, it doesn't list ONLY the backups on that device, but keeps and displays its own list, which includes backups that have been saved on other devices. This is a problem when assessing whether there is enough space available for a new backup, and what to delete. I already keep my own list. This is enough hindrance to make me look for another system.

A great product that takes too long to load.

I have been using Acronis for about 25 years. They constantly improve the value of their products, except for one thing: the software loading speed is abominable. That has not changed.

Hi there, and thank you for being with us for 25 years!

We actually addressed this issue: you now have the option to do a Custom Install and select only the backup module, completely skipping the heavy security features. If your current version doesn't give you this option, you just need to upgrade to Acronis True Image 2026 to get it and restore the fast performance you remember.

Best regards.

Incredible tech support!

The tech support was incredible considering the hurdles he/we both had to face. I lost the original computer in a power surge and then lost the emergency boot disk in a move to another state. He was extremely patient and spent hours coaxing Acronis back to life, and was extremely diligent in following up on install issues.

Hi there, sorry to hear about the bad experience. To clear up any doubts: the software that came with your 20TB hard drive is an OEM version. This is a limited, customized version provided by the hardware manufacturer, which is entirely different from the full retail product we sell and support directly. For issues with that specific bundled software, you'll need to contact the hard drive manufacturer's support team.

Foolish to rely on Acronis?

What follows is my original review at 2 stars, upgraded to 4 stars after receiving Acronis’ response. I accept the explanation given - it is unfortunate that the original interaction didn’t provide the now sensible information:

I now realise that I was foolish to just think that backing up to the Acronis cloud would be good enough. I just hadn't realised how long it would take and how hit & miss the process would be, having had to repeat it several times, for lengthy sessions, before it finally worked.
I made contact with Acronis, only to be told they wanted screen shots of what was happening. They were serious!! They also suggested my broadband must be slow.
I've been using computers for roughly forty years, programmed, and dealt with reinstallations, crashes, hardware upgrades etc but I would never ever consider myself an expert.
What Acronis wanted wasn't possible because, for a start, the laptop wasn't working hence my efforts to reinstall my 2tb SSD from the saved version on the Acronis cloud. I explained everything. After, literally two 12- hour-plus sessions, and a few a bit shorter, I finally had a working laptop again. Acronis suggested it was a slow broadband connection - IT WAS NOT - at least I don't consider 900mbps a slow broadband.
So what was the problem - I still have no idea, nor do Acronis techs, but I now continue to save, not only to the Acronis cloud but also, to two external hard drives.
So, why do I pay for 5 computers with 5Tb cloud storage? I do not know and it seems to me that I should downgrade and save a lot of money from my next renewal.

Hi there. First, we sincerely apologize for the frustrating support experience. You are entirely right: asking for screenshots when your laptop won't even boot is unhelpful, and we are addressing this with our frontline support team.

Regarding the 12-hour restore time: recovering a massive 2TB drive entirely from the Cloud requires downloading and writing 2,000 GBs of data in a recovery environment (which often uses generic network drivers, limiting your 900mbps speeds). 12+ hours is actually the standard physical limitation of internet-based Bare-Metal Restores of that size, regardless of the provider.

You mentioned you are now backing up to local external drives as well as the Acronis Cloud. While we know you did this out of frustration, this is actually the industry gold standard (the 3-2-1 backup rule). Local drives are built for fast, immediate full-system restores, while the Cloud is your ultimate safety net. We highly recommend keeping your current setup, as it offers the perfect balance of speed and off-site security.
