We recently went over to the cloud…

We recently went over to the cloud version from the 'on premise' version & I am pleasantly surprised how flexible & responsive it is. Overall a very easy transfer, thanks to act! customer service. Thank you!

So much potential for the cloud based…

There is so much potential in the cloud based version, and it is without doubt far easier than having to install updates across our entire network. But blimey, there are so many parts that just do not work properly. Some features perform worse than they do on the desktop version, and others are simply missing altogether.

To be fair, the support team are genuinely helpful when you speak with them, but the sales side of things lets it down. They make promises that the support and development teams cannot deliver on, and without any proper system for logging and tracking support tickets, the whole experience starts to fall apart.

ACT Sucks

We have used ACT so long, we are reluctant to jump at this point to another CRM. Our endless problem for years is that ACT will stay integrated with Outlook and it fails weekly. Outlook tosses ACT out for being to slow. It has been a nightmare. Thousands of contact data point lost because ACT does not warn us when it goes offline...We have reset it a thousand times and someone in India tells us every damn year that "they are working on it." Ive been using Act for 20 years and still going

Ive been using Act for 20 years and just recently I had some glitches with the software. However, I was impressed by tech consultant Josh who responded quickly and got me back on track. I use the desktop and online version which sync seamlessly and keep me in touch with customers while on the go. Thanks Josh!

ACT and Outlook are a bad match

I've used ACT for over 15 years and spent 14 of them not only happy, but referred them to everyone I know. Well, 2025 ended that.

Since I renewed in early 2025 the ACT/Outlook relationship makes dems and replubicans seem like loving siblings. Right now ACT will not sync with Outlook at all. They have 3 "escalated tickets" on my account with none resolved.

The are aware that they are crippling my business and still no results.

New version of Act! online has given me nothing but problems.

I used to use Act 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0 when it was a cd rom. It worked wonderfully and I never had a problem with it. A couple of months ago I purchased the on-line version and it has been a complete waste of time. It has not successuly imported spreadsheets of my prospects or completed group emails. Avoid this version of Act!. It is very different than what it used to be.

I won't be using ACT ever again

I've been using ACT for probably 20 years. In 2024 they change the feature where you send a mail out to all of your customers from what was called a Mail Merge to Marketing Automation. The videos they provide are next to useless. The only good thing about my experience was the tech person who helped me navigate the problems...which are many. If it weren't for Andy in tech support I would have been lost. I was on the phone with him almost weekly for the whole year.

I lost thousands of dollars using ACT. Here's why. When following ACTs own instructions, the newsletters I sent out to my 1000+ customers ended up in spam folders. When I used to do mail outs I would hear back from customers right away then more would reply over the coming weeks. I heard nothing back from anyone. I started phoning and emailing customers to see if they got my email from the Marketing Automation. It was in their spam folders. I know angry customers often exaggerate. Not here. It took almost a year to get this problem resolved. Andy was great but the problems with the back end of the software was so convoluted that even Andy had a hard time figuring out how to get my emails into inbox's not spam folders. I had to hire an outside tech person who ultimately figured out the final fix to get ACT working as it should have from the beginning. He had to help ACT's own tech person. This isn't a comment on Andy. He is excellent. It's a comment on how badly the Marketing Automation system is designed. Can there be any justification for my emails going to spam folders. For $870.00 CAD a year, a CRM should work perfectly. Not even close.

During the time when my newsletters weren't being received, there is no way to determine the amount of money I lost due to customers going elsewhere because they didn't hear from me. Regular contact is key in retaining customers. ACT is responsible for my financial losses but there is nothing I can do about it.

Adding to this debacle, just today I went to pay for my subscription, they shut my access to my database down. I was given no warning that this was going to happen. To be fully honest, they did send me
notice a month ago that renewal was coming up and an invoice came a couple of days ago. I pay my credit card down at the end of each month and I couldn't renew today as I was at my limit which I always am at the end of each month. The PayPal option wasn't available. So this means I have to lay off my employees on Monday and Tuesday because I can't access my customer base to know where to send my guys (we're a building maintenance company). This will hurt them and cost me thousands of dollars. This is no way to treat a customer who has been loyal for over...it's got to be more than 15 years. In addition to the thousands already lost because my mailouts were ending up in spam folders...FOR ALMOST A YEAR!!!! , shutting me down was the final straw. Just out of principal, I will be using Maximizer or another CRM next year even it the learning curve is steep. I won't give ACT another penny after this year. Since they shut me down, I have to pay them to get my database back up so I'm stuck using them for another year. I'm going to call a lawyer on Monday since I'm feeling like it's illegal to hold a customers database ransom rather than just sending a friendly email saying I need to pay the invoice by a certain date.

If you're going to buy ACT, take my experience into consideration.

Hi Ian, We’ve read your review carefully, understand your frustration, and have attempted to contact you multiple times via both email and telephone in an effort to find an amenable solution. We’ve been unable to reach you as you announced in your voicemail that you no longer answer the phone due to telemarketers. While we’d love to address your concerns in person, we’d also like to clarify a few points for accuracy relating to your comments. First, while you referenced paying for AMA, your account was on our free Basic tier and did not include an Act! Marketing Automation subscription. The Basic version offers limited functionality, and because we understand you had questions around the transition from Mail Merge, our support team provided extensive assistance despite this being a non-paid feature set. Second, regarding deliverability, inbox placement is impacted by many factors outside of our platform, including domain and email settings. We worked closely with you over many months to identify the best setup for your use case. And last, regarding billing, we began outreach several months prior and followed up nine times by email and phone before your subscription was suspended due to non-payment. While we offer flexible payment arrangements, these must be made prior to lapse. Multiple payment methods—including credit card, EFT, cheque, and PayPal—remained available. At this point, since we are unable to reach you for resolution, we wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Act! CRM

Act! is the main software we use to run our company. We track all of our interactions and communications with our clients, prospects and vendors in our centralized Act! database. Act! integrates seamlessly with our Outlook email and even sync's the Act! calendar with the Outlook calendar. We also integrate it with our phone system for caller ID screen pops and dialing.

ACT!'s Sr technicians redeemed their reputation

Glad to say that a Sr Tech contacted me after seeing my review and worked with me for a couple of weeks to figure out the problems with the program. Even though he was not immediately familiar with the issues, he scheduled follow up calls giving him time to research the problems. After several meetings, it looks like he may have fixed everything. He even told me to contact him in the future if I had anymore issues. Andrew was the best! I can say my his support has mitigated my original feelings: he found the problem with the program freezing constantly, the history time spent report registering 0 minutes as negative time, inability to install on Windows 11 laptop, and clearing old searches...

Clear flexible CRM without unnecessary complexity

I am an Act! user for decades already. And it is still unbeatable when used in most situations, where complexity often isn't always much of an ally. O yes, I know all about the recent developments in the CRM world. But in my situation I still prefer Act! It has all the flexibility I need and it is very clear, without any unnecessary complexities. So for me, still triple A for Act!

ACT Was Great

Act! really changed the way we communicate with our clients. The automation capabilities enabled us to send personalized email campaigns but without a person having to remember to do it each time. This has enabled us to improve our productivity, and we can now handle more client requests without sacrificing quality or spending lots of time on manual tasks. Act! helped us make the most of our resources (people & time) and has become an invaluable tool to our business.

I've been a user since version 1

I've been a user since version 1. It has clearly grown by adding capabilities that make it more like SalesForce, but lacking full enterprise features. Features that were added many versions ago have been eliminated - the one that comes to mind is adding external program access.

I really like the ability to add tables but was disappointed because of the cost.

Up until the last couple of years, ACT was a perpetual license. Moving to subscription had potential customers examine other subscription lower cost products. I don't know the impact to ACT but I suspect new customer access slowed.

Not easy to use

Very slow loading. Not intuitive, broken links.

I tried to cancel my company subscription, but was unable to and the company took another £500 out of my bank.

They refused to refund.

Great program

Great program, especially the Pro version. use it in the office, on the phone, all over. Very simple and on site - not cloud based so no one else has your data.

While I like what ACT can do

While I like what ACT can do, I remain very disappointed in current version and previous one. I have ongoing problems with ACT freezing/locking up. Each time a Tech has attempted to correct the problem it has returned.
