I wrote a claim to customer service, after having been redirected by KLM. This was over 3 months ago. No reply, nothing. Absolutely horrendous and a mockery to the term customer service.

Stay away from a very rubbish company

My honest opinion is to stay away from Alitalia. I am not even sure where to start to describe how rubbish this company is. First, if you book seats you can have the surprise, on the plane, to be told that actually seats A, B and C and not available in all planes, so you paid for nothing. Second, if you liaise with them, they get back to you almost year after the complain, which makes it difficult to hold all the information needed. Third, they would send you links to escalate your complaints which don't work, so they are a waste of time. I am embarrassed to be Italian and will never ever use Alitalia again. Ever. UTTERLY RUBBISH, I can see why they are failing.

This airline absolutely sucks

This airline absolutely sucks

This airline has the most deceptive baggage policy in the world. We booked our tickets through Kayak and *WERE NOT* informed of the baggage policies beyond the usual thing.

When we traveled from Palermo to Naples, we were allowed to check one bag and carry on a bag with no additional fees.

However, the problem began on our flight from Naples to Rome. We could have easily taken the train. However, we decided to take the plane. Unfortunately, when we went to check our bags, we were informed our checked bags were each over 8 kg. They charged us 53 Euros per bag to check them... Yes!!!! 53 Euros per bag.

This is for a 45 minute flight! In what universe is that a reasonable bag fee.

The ticket agent gave us a lot of crap and a lot of misleading information about what our options were. Very deceptive business practices. According to their company policies, we were charged the wrong excess baggage fee... but they won't even refund that and charge us the right fee.

I won't even go into the long lines to check in, the constantly changing flight information, the barrage of useless emails, and a customer service department that is anything but...

DO NOT FLY THIS AIRLINE. I repeat "DO NOT FLY THIS AIRLINE".

They are scamming you with bags and trying to introduce all sorts of hidden fees. Take the train for much less money, no baggage restrictions, etc.

This airline is the worst I have ever encountered.

If there was below zero that would be…

If there was below zero that would be my rating. As per all the other customers here, this is by far THE WORSE AIRLINE !! WE had baggage lost TWICE. I had two vaccinations totally ruined by this airline. Too make matters worse they did not care AT ALL. The staff are so rude it is unbelievable. I do not understand how an airline could have such rude customer care staff, who do not care about the customers at all. Words cannot express how awful this airline is. I will not go into detail but do yourself a favor and NEVER travel with them EVER!!! I will be writing to their CEO, not that that will do anything but this service is unacceptable.

Worst airline in the world - You have been warned!

Disgusting company. Completely incompetent and rude staff.

Severe delays causing missed connections and completely no help or information from the staff, just a complete rude and arrogant attitude.

Wrote to company official complaints and they did not even have the courtesy to reply.

As a frequent flyer all over the world I can easily confirm that this is the worst airline anywhere in the world - you have been warned!

Avoid this company

They lost my luggage during the flight between Czech Republic and Japan. They told me to buy replacement clothes and necessary stuff, they were willing to pay for it. I did as they said. The luggage arrived few days later. When I came back I contacted their support. Since then the company was not responding and when I sent them 4th email they offered my a voucher with a discount for a next flight worth a fraction of the costs I had to pay for new clothes and other necessary stuff. When I refused not contact from them since then. Avoid this airline at any cost!

Good

I had enough legroom, entertainment was good and food was decent. Cabin crew could have been a little friendlier but they seemed efficient enough.

Alitalia, destroying your luggage since 1946

Companies like Alitalia are proof that there must be a European regulatory body for aviation. Alitalia's administration should be investigated thoroughly because there is no human explanation for the horrible way baggage is treated for decades. If I was an Alitalia baggage worker I'd quit out of shame.

I booked a return flight from Amsterdam …

I booked a return flight from Amsterdam to Catania with a step over in Milan.
I was not able to get the first flight due to major force issues. I was not aware of the no-show cancellation policy of Alitalia, where if you do not show up for a flight ( you paid for ) and you do not communicate it within 24 hours, they will CANCEL your reservation with no communication to you, AT ALL.
So today I went to catch my flight in Catania, to work tomorrow in the NL, but I was told my reservation was canceled and I had to pay a fine of about 200 euros in order to be able to access to the flight I bought. All this with not even an email sent to me in order for me to re-plan my come back.
Unacceptable

What customer service

We have not yet even flown with Alitalia but experience so far has been very poor indeed. We had been warned about the airline but we had no choice in the matter. The forthcoming long flight due in January persuaded us to book comfort seats so we had extra leg room. Not cheap at £75 each on each flight. When I rang I was told I couldn't book these seats because I am over 65 (my wife is younger). When challenged they told me it was because the seats were by the emergency exits. After much discussion they said they would book them but could not guarantee that I would be able to board the plane. She said this is explained on their website. I checked and this is not so, it just says that passengers must be fit and able which I am.
Emailed to complain about this but no reply. Tried again but no reply. Eventually I contacted the Customer Services Manager (not possible to email CEO unfortunately). She replied that their staff are really experienced and knew that age itself was not a barrier and I could book. She said she would remind their telephone staff. When I rang to try and book again I was once more was asked if I was over 65. When I said yes she went away to check if I could use these seats and eventually said she would book them. I was told I would get an email by reply - I didn't so phoned again and was told they would email me - they didn't.
Emailed Customer Services Manager again to tell her of my recent experience. She emailed me back to say that their telephone staff would not have raised the issue of age and in fact it was me that raised it and because this had never been asked about before. This was absolutely not true. I went back to the CSM to tell her that she was being mislead and felt aggrieved that I was being blamed for the confusion. I said I felt that an apology would be in order. I have had no reply.
Customer service seems non-existent, no wonder Alitalia is in trouble.

I flew Tel Aviv

I flew Tel Aviv - Rome - Mexico City on August 26th 2017, and back on September 26th . The price was great and the service on board good, yet when I tried to change my date back to an earlier one, to Sept.20th. or so, they wanted to charge 200 euros for the change!
I wrote and phoned to them some 3 week in advance, it was on low season (and indeed: in both flights there was plenty of free space in the planes), so I think is is unacceptable by all means the airline wanted to charge so much for so small a change!
The above was very annoying: sometimes plans change, things change, and charging so high a fee feels like the company you chose is punishing you and even worse: taking advantage on you.
I shall check carefully these things next time, as I see this as a very poor client service by Alitalia.

Canceled flight regularly departed

We received an email 20 hours before the flight's departure saying that the flight was cancelled. We had to call the costumer service, since no other options were listed on the email. We were rudely answered that the only thing we could do was to take a flight that would have left 5 hours earlier, which would have meant wasting a night of vacation, and spending an incredible amount of money to reach the airport nighttime. We accepted. I, naturally, asked the reason for the cancellation and one of the employees mumble an "overbooking" explanation. So, I said that then we should have been reimbursed for having our flight cancelled for overbooking and not for "natural" causes. The kind employee cut the conversation by abruptly ending the call. I had to call again to be sure that we were actually booked for the earlier flight. We were.
The day after the "cancelled" flight departed regularly with 30 minutes of delay.
After almost two months Alitalia hasn't answered any of our emails, and hasn't given us the refund defined by EC 261 Flight Compensation regulation.

AVOID THIS COMPANY!! TERRIBLE

The worst airline ever!!!!

I would rate it -0 if it allowed me
I flew from Tirana to London Via Rome with this horrible company. As I went to the airport to check in TWO hours before only to be told at check in that my flight had been cancelled 10 days ago and they did not bother to inform me!! The earliest flight back to the UK was 3 days later via Turkey with Turkisht Airline!

Once in the UK i have contacted Alitalia with several emails to claim compensation and have heard nothing now for over a month!! When you contact their call centre they put the phone down!!

Terrible company will be making sure I give my reviews in every social media possible and make sure my family and friends does not fly withh this company. Awful customer service!

Horrible service

We waited an hour for our luggage, but it was missing, it was still in Rome. They said they would call later that evening but they didn't. The next day they called and said we could either pick it up or it was delivered within 24 hours. But we kinda needed it within the hour, so we had to pick it up ourselves. Horrible service. Never flying with them again.

S h i t t i e s t Airline Customer Service

After booking my first ticket with Alitalia, I was happy to receive a reduced fair, but this is where my positive experience ended.

I needed to make a change to my flight (2 months before the flight), and I decided to try to do it online but I could not. I then called Alitalia customer service, and it turns out that I am not allowed to change my flight due to the "special deal" I received. Therefore, in case I could not take my flight for any reason whatsoever, the flight would be lost and I would lose my money in the process. I tried to persuade the customer service agent that I am ready to pay a penalty for changing the flights although I know the fare wouldn't be more expensive, but he mentioned that I could only buy a new flight.

This is the first and LAST experience I have with Alitalia. Never buying their tickets again. I cannot believe that such S H I T T Y customer service still exists today. The best part is I booked my tickets only two days ago, and they're not willing to help in any way at all. It is utterly ridiculous.

never use this airline!!!

My husband and I ordered tickets from Rome to Palermo for our honeymoon - we ordered the tickets 7 months before the trip. As we were in Rome the week before leaving for Palermo (we live in DK) we were not able to check in before we were at the airport. When we get there the electronic check in does not Work, and the flight time has been changed. When we ask why we can't check in they said we had to go to the costumer service - we stood in line for quite a while to be told we should try to check in electronically again. This (off course) didn't work so we had to stand in line for manuel check in. Here the staff tells us that we have been put on a stand by list for the flight, as the plain has been overbooked, and that we can get information 15 minutes before take off whether we can get on the scheduled flight. We tell her it's our honeymoon and that we ordered the tickets a long time ago, but there's nothing they can do (we were at the airport 3 hours before take off)... so these 3 hours were used with a stomach ache not knowing if we could get on board.
