Dodgy!!

I don’t like the fact they are claiming 4 plus Trustpilot stars on Facebook which is a lie. So I would never trust them with my dog’s diet!

This is not true. We have never referenced our trustpilot rating anywhere. We work very hard to try to empower pet owners and unfounded reviews like this set us back enormously. Please reconsider

Inaccurate and misleading advertising.

I used to trust this website implicitly, but I'm afraid this is no longer the case. I received a marketing email inviting me to try the dog food, Dr Veneta, a freeze-dried raw food. On the all about dog food website, there was absolutely no reference to the artificial mineral pack which was included in this product. In the circumstances, I assumed it was an entirely natural product, with no artificial additives. Upon receiving the product, I was horrified to discover Dr. Veneta actually contains a whole host of artificial additives, including the highly contentious ingredient, Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate, which has in certain studies, been linked to the development of liver tumours, including liver toxicity.
Advertising products on a website carries with it a statutory duty not to mislead or misrepresent. I purchased a product in good faith, which was certainly not as described. It is also concerning that all about dog food consistently fail to respond to any emailed complaint. I am actually extremely disappointed by the extent to which this previously reputable website, has now deteriorated to such an extent that you cannot trust its representations.

RESPONSE OF AADF

AADF did not respond with 48 hours. Sadly, they took several days. What I find most concerning is the completely misleading response here. I took a screenshot of the Dr Veneta review, therefore, I am able to prove that no reference was made to any artificial vitamin and mineral pack. I am shocked by what appears to be a blatant misrepresentation.
It is incorrect to state that the samples were "free" because you do have to pay quite a large postage charge. Taking the original price of the product into account, I received a 50% reduction in the usual price.
Copper sulphate pentahydrate Is not included in all mineral packs, because the more enlightened manufacturers include a safer alternative, such as, copper oxide. Copper sulphate pentahydrate is the cheapest form of copper available, yet it is the most dangerous, as it is utilised to kill slugs and snails.
Aadf have now amended their description of Dr. Veneta, but that was only in response to my email, which aadf confirmed to me in their response.

Hi Angela. I'm sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with the AADF site but I don't think your review is entirely fair:
We did reply to your email within 48 hours of receiving it - maybe check your spam folder?
The free sample service is intended to allow our members to try foods that they might be interested in before committing to a purchase. It is free of charge and entirely opt-in.
The food you mention does indeed contain synthetic vitamins but this is true for 99% of complete pet foods and for most it is a necessary measure to ensure the food is nutritionally complete and balanced. It is otherwise free from artificial additives.
There's no evidence that the concentrations of Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate provided in pet foods are dangerous. You can find our take on the ingredient along with references here: https://www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/dog-food-ingredients/0113/copper-sulphate
Our product listing for Dr Veneta clearly states that the food contains a vitamin-mineral supplement including Copper Sulphate.

Absolutely excellent advice by…

Absolutely excellent advice by individuals who really know what they’re talking about. Since following their advice, I have changed my dog’s food and can really see a difference in their digestion. She’s not passing stools now 5 or 6 times a day or having bouts of regular diorhhea or vomiting. This has given me the courage and understanding to question my vet’s nutritional advice and they have had to admit that the foods that they were recommending (Hills Digestive Care and Royal Canin Gastrointestinal) are not good options for managing her long-term digestive issues. These foods left her lacking energy, constantly hungry and with incredibly dry fur and terrible tear stains. Thank you for everything that you are doing.

Such a useful basic guide

Such a useful basic guide, enabling the dog owner to know which food was the very best value for money.
Additionally letting us know which overpriced and nutritionally low foods to avoid.
Very disappointed and curious to know why the website is no longer available ?

Information is incorrect compared tot he food manufacturers web sites, had concerns so emailed "All about Dog food" and never got a reply. Seems like they rate higher foods on an Algorithm rather than actual facts. Totally unreliable and misinformation which clearly isn't updated to 2024 info or prices. Had potential but seems to run by people who can't be bothered anymore as not even reply on here.

Hi Paul, I'm really sorry that you didn't get a reply to your email - it must have slipped through the net somehow. The rating algorithm only uses factual nutritional information from the manufacturer so is as close as we get to impartial. We also do our best to keep all of our info up to date but with well over 3000 foods and treats listed and product changes happening all the time, there can sometimes be a short delay while we get everything updated. If you do spot any outdated info at all, do let us know and we'll get it updated right away.

Misleading reviews

I recently purchased dog food based on a review from this site, and I'm deeply disappointed. The product they recommended was not only of poor quality but also clearly lacked any real nutritional value for my dog.

It's evident that the reviewers here either have no real understanding of canine nutrition or are simply pushing products for profit based on advertising revenue. For a site that's supposed to be an authority on dog food, their recommendations are shockingly inept. I strongly advise against trusting their reviews if you value your dog's health.

Hi Stuart. Our ratings are designed to estimate how nutritionally beneficial a food is likely to be for the *majority* of dogs and we work really hard to make sure they are as accurate as possible. The trouble is that every dog is an individual and no matter how nutritionally excellent any food is, there will always be some dogs that it simply does not suit. Of course, if you would like to know more about why we gave this particular food its rating, drop us an email and we'll gladly go through it.

know nothing about nutrition

I find the person who writes it really incompetent in nutrition. They keep talking about "meat content" but fresh meat and offal are mainly water and only 18% protein, whereas meat meal (which is dried fresh meat and offal - I mean really...) is 65% protein... so what matters is how much protein you get not how much water... As well too much protein can damage kidneys...so...daaaa... absolut tools

Hi and thanks for your review but I don't think it's entirely fair. We actually take great care to factor in the moisture level of ingredients. On our product review pages we have the dry matter nutrient dials and the as-fed ingredient pie charts, both of which take account of moisture levels to provide information on a level playing field. This is far more transparency than you will find from any manufacturer I am aware of or any other pet food review site

Very useful information

Very useful information on what you are feeding your pet. Also great to know that they’re continually updating the reviews on foods as I have noticed changes in food we have given our dog in the past.
