Child welfare.

My experience with Laura Sellick at Almy & Thomas was extremely disappointing.
During a family court hearing, I raised genuine safeguarding concerns about my child being expected to sleep in a room without a window, ventilation, or natural light. Rather than addressing these concerns professionally, Ms Sellick dismissed and belittled them in court, stating that a child “does not need a window” in a bedroom.
I found this attitude concerning, particularly in a case involving a young child’s welfare and safety. Subsequent checks showed that my concerns about the room were valid, which makes the way they were handled even more troubling.
In my experience, the approach taken was intimidating and lacked sensitivity towards child welfare issues. I did not feel that my concerns as a parent were treated with the seriousness they deserved.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this firm for matters involving child arrangements where safeguarding and welfare should be paramount.

Unprofessional

I bought my Flat in August 2023 and still haven't had the title deeds. I contacted the Land Registry who said they were waiting for Almy and Thomas, maybe I could contact them. I did by email twice, and they have completely ignored me. How rude and unprofessional.

Very poor service in both probate and…

Very poor service in both probate and conveyancing. Unable to get my name right on two occasions. Lost paperwork, did not return calls or reply to emails without chasing. Charged me for things that should have been deducted from the estate and had to refund. Staff with one exception were offhand and sarcastic. My estate agent knew more about my sale than my solicitor! Outdated, time to give up.

Excellent

Myself and my partner recently bought a house and used Almy and Thomas to progress this.
We had Jenny Plumb and she was very efficient and left no stone unturned when it came to the checks and ensuring everything was in order.
There was pressure from the chain to progress the sale quickly and Jenny did everything she could to ensure that this went through as quickly and smoothly as possible.
Would definitely recommend to anyone requiring legal services and will use again in the future should we need to.

Almy & Thomas Great Service

Have used Almy & Thomas lots of times for various things, this time we used them for our wills, we received professional advice, friendliness and extremely quick service so I would like to say a very big thank you to Flis and Kirsty for all the hard work on getting our wills done so quickly.

How are they still in business?

Awful company - if I could give zero stars I would. I can list everything wrong with this business but I don’t think they’d care enough to take it in. Very backwards way of operating and most definitely did not have my best interests in mind throughout my sale and purchase in 2023. I’ve given them multiple opportunities to make up for their mistakes, hence not reviewing until now, but they’re so bitter! As the experts, I shouldn’t have to keep you in check regarding retaining funds (which you eventually sorted) and clauses in my lease (which you’ve chosen to ignore) but here we are. I fully expect a snarky response to this review which will show their true colours. Avoid and find yourself a reputable company that actually care!

1 star is to good for any of these…

1 star is to good for any of these firms but unfortunately I cannot select zero stars..Another corrupt firm to avoid who does not offer action against the police.

All these firms are useless as they do not want to bring action against the police cases against the police.. they find every excuse in the book to not take your case on. I am not surprised at all with these bogus firms.

Avoid at all costs not fit for public use!

Totally Useless - The Chocolate Teapot of Solicitors

During a recent house sale I had the misfortune of having my buyer be represented by Almy Thomas.
It all went as normal until exchange of contracts when there were multiple delays. At last they were ready and on the day Almy Thomas reveal that their client doesn't actually have the 10% deposit, not even 5%. They offer some wet excuses and then offer the money held for Stamp Duty as the deposit. Our solicitor then has to go up the chain to get agreement for this reduced deposit to go to the top of the chain. Completion is finally agreed.
On completion day we move out and travel 170 mile to our new house to hear there are problems with completion. Almy Thomas say their client called forward the money from her mortgage lender but it hasn't arrived yet. Our solicitor tries to fathom out what Almy Thomas are doing but in the end completion doesn't happen and our removal firm take our stuff back to Devon and into storage so they can load their vans for the next day. As a result of this we got the keys the next day but had to camp out in an empty house for 8 days until we could get our removal people back to deliver.
I am now having to chase Almy Thomas's client for £2947 pounds to reimburse my incurred expenses. My Solicitor has contacted them twice to date with no reply. I have tried once again with no reply and have decided to initiate a Gov.UK Money Claim against their client. Use them at your peril.

This is only my personal experience

This is only my personal experience. Visited their office and asked if they handled a specific legal matter. The answer was yes.
I sent an e mail and followed it up by two phone calls - without any response whatsoever.
Although the offices have been established for many years - this experience does not instill confidence!
What do you think?
