A dishonest tradesman; a roofer to avoid

This was an appalling experience and certainly a tradesman to avoid. We contacted Apex Roofing and Guttering Ltd in June 2021 for a leaking flat roof. Apex' director Michael Coffey came over. Seeming to know what he was talking about he quoted a reasonable price of 850 pounds. A few days later he organised for one of his people to do the job. The man spoke no English and was not able to answer any questions. He started the work, stripping away the roof. Once the roof was open, Michael came by and said he needed 3000 pounds more - 3 times over the agreed amount - after which the work would be done. A reasonable extra would have been understandable (wood had to be replaced) however clearly not 3000 pounds. We had no choice once the roof was open in rainy weather. Once he finished, the worker left without removing the debris which was scattered all over the garden and moreover, the inside vents hanging from the ceiling simply pushed out. We felt upset. Michael had given us a 10 year warranty certificate. However, when we texted him three weeks later that the roof started had leaking again with water dripping from all sides, he ignored our messages. We have since contacted Michael Coffey using different phones we eventually spoke to him. In spite of each time promising to pass by, he did not show up while we waited for him. After weeks we now asked for another roofer to quote for a repair. He came today and said it was an appalling job which basically needs to be redone from scratch. Cheap felt had not been fixed (can just be lifted up), and around the corner of vents the felt has been closed with small pieces glued together. The roof leaks on various places. Poor work, extra charges half way, leaving a mess, not honouring the guarantee - certainly a company to avoid at all cost. We are in the process of reporting this to Trading Standards and will seek guidance on how to get refunded for the repair we now have ahead.
