Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the staff and their moderation practices, finding them to be inconsistent or unfair. Customers frequently encountered issues with the service, noting concerns about the impartiality of moderation, the dynamics of discussions, and the feeling that varied opinions were not encouraged. The website was also a source of frustration, with many finding it to lack diverse perspectives and experiencing technical difficulties. Some people were dissatisfied with the social media presence, finding it to contain content that was not relevant to the product. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that the product, specifically the film and TV reviews, were excellent.

I completely agree with Brad W's recent post. Any credible forum should not be banning someone just for using the word "fanatic", but AV Forums is basically a left wing echo chamber. Just to confirm... See more

Have been a member for a long time but…

Have been a member for a long time but over the last 5 years the site has hit rock bottom.
Biased mods who love to wave their banning stick.
No free speech unless you fit the leftist narrative. Constant reporting if you don't agree with someone's opinion.
The site is only suitable for the woke, leftist snowflakes.

BEWARE OF MrsArcanum AND Derek S-H

AV Forums where truth goes to die and free speech is strictly prohibited. Toxic place full of woke loonies while the PC moderators are biased and dislike anyone critical of leftist politics. The forums are infested with cliques of snowflakes that will mass report you to get you banned if they disagree with you. There is no room for adult debate - if you don't play make believe and go along with their delusions, you'll be wiped out. I was branded a Troll and a racist because I went against the group think of the main contributors, many who have recently migrated to AV Forums from the equally Stalinist echo chamber Digital Spy.

Holocaust Denial

The site used to be useful for technical questions.
However there has been a recent influx of users from other sites.

So expect Holocaust denial, Genocide denial, propoganda for dictatorships - when the mods supprt someone who claims North Korea is truly freely and the US is the Forth Reich something has gone wrong.

So did you know that all those mass graves and death camps were false news? People just died.

AV Forum supports and defends this view.

And best of all, threats of physical violence against other users that are just "banter" and not really threats.

Hopefully advertiers will realise.

Over moderated and toxic

AVF used to be a great site and resource for all things techy, unfortunately over the last ten years or so the place has become over moderated and it’s now extremely toxic, some moderators (and senior/admin mods) are just power hungry keyboard warriors with attitudes like the Gestapo and the SS, it’s their way or your out if they don’t agree with you on even the most trivial of things.
If it wasn’t for this then it could well be the friendly place that it used to be in the noughties, I still visit occasionally but the content I now look at is so small it’s hardly worth it as most sections of the site are moderated to the extreme, plus the sheer amount of adverts are so off putting these days.
Although I’ve been a member for a very long time now, I rarely visit, but felt the need to share my honest opinions as I’d read that the owner has asked forum members to post positive reviews here on TP, how desperate and low could one go.
That is all.

Been a AVF user for around 18 years and…

Been a AVF user for around 18 years and i visit several times per day. There are some great people there who are very helpful and interesting and some who like to moan and disrespect other members, the owner and mods and who are full of their self importance (and its nice to see so many on here leaving reviews too). Thankfully they are dispatched fairly quickly after so many warnings (which is great in my book).
They have some great posts not only from tech, but from any aspect of life, from love, to loss, to cars, to food, to buying/selling, to competitions, etc.
Well worth a visit if you are looking for a great place to visit, hang out and get advice or just some friendly banter.

Over modded

Over modded.
Been a member for 2 decades.
Mods used to be quite casual, however bannings and post deletions are commonplace.
Still a great place for av.
The general chat spin offs politics/covid sections are over modded strait jackets.

Just to add, DS closed its politics section, due to general bullying, the cohort responsible have now taken over this board. They are currently behaving in the same manner, polluting this board.
RIP AV forums.

Some great posters but control freak mods

Some great posters, especially in the tv section.

To the person below, it is not the websites fault that tv manufacturers no longer put any quality into tvs below 48 inches

Moderators do not allow free speach to a worrying degree.

Forum negativity if not high end

Been considering a new Tv to upgrade my 32" 14 y.o HD Ready. They have a negative approach to smaller size models, all most folk can cope with in there abodes.
Whilst correct technically correct more constrictive help to find the best of lower end improve the site.

What goes around haha

Funnily enough I was accused of scalping on here years back even though I was selling imported games at cost price to help out a few fellow members but no.
The Mods would not allow that and accusations starting to fly.
Now I hear they advocate scalping and I am not surprised in the slightest as they are the biggest hypocrites on the Internet and that is saying something.
Avoid this website at all costs!!!!

Heavy Moderation And Snowflake's

The site used to be good, now they are more concerned with promoting adverts and its own second hand market place.
The moderators act a bit like the Gestapo and are heavy with the ban hammer for no real reason sometimes, you must follow the populace but not criticise anything like a product or they will ban you if you if members complain you are being indifferent. Some of the members are snowflakes and you must not express your personality or opinion but behave like being in the workplace, having a differing opinion leads to a ban, even if you are not breaking any of the rules.
If you need advice it can be a good site to read, but as I previously said you need to ensure you don’t criticise a product or argue against it too much, as that will lead to members complaining and you will be banned no matter how polite or intelligent you put your case forward. So overall a site good for reading about AV only but not much else.
It's also a bomb site in its political threads and 'Covid' threads, where people and moderators act like professional experts in the world of politics and medicine. And if you again go against the status quo and date challenge anyone deemed a professional, purely because they claim to be, then you are threatened with the ban hammer which is presented in an incredibly biased manor. It's quite obvious the moderators have their favourites who they deem worthy to express their comments how everyone they see fit, with no proof or evidence to backup their claims, but if you chose to follow suite your post is deleted and your threatened with being banned.
Avforums is one site to stay clear off, read only and for your own sanity stay out of the politics and Covid threads. They are not welcoming or accepting of differing views and opinions to the favourite ones that get all the 'likes' and 'agree' emoji's.

THE place to venture when looking to…

THE place to venture when looking to buy or wanting to learn about all things AV. There’s a great weekly podcast with funny characters to talk you through the 90mins. Back to the forums, it’s not just an AV place, it’s all things that life throws at you. It’s a community to join and enjoy. Highly recommended.
I’ve been a member since Nov 2000 and call it home 👍

Remains an active enthusiast community

Over 10 years as a member, still my first choice for feedback and knowledge on AV products, alongside many topical threads. The forums have at times become very politicised, polarising the community. But away from mainstream social media and in the absence of forums generally, it can offer well-mannered discussions and helpful advice.
Generally, my experiences on the Classifieds have been very positive, any new user must approach with utmost caution and consider the detailed guidance posted.
