Zero service out of office hours.

Hit a pothole and had a burst tyre on a Sunday in a Mercedes rented from this company. Impossible to contact them out of hours and Mercedes left us sitting by the side of a busy road for almost four hours. A few miles from Northampton so not exactly in the middle of nowhere! Finally managed to locate a tire recovery company but they did not have premium tires. No choice but to buy a standard tyre which I had to pay for or tow the vehicle to Mercedes (closed on sundays) and make our own way home. Avis Prestige basically said tough luck and by the way you owe us for a premium tyre. Very sorry you can’t contact us out of office hours. One week later still waiting for the balance of my 2000 deposit! Beware!!! Not a premium or prestige company at all. The normal Avis company is better!!

Cowboy company

If I could give this company 0 stars I would, absolutely useless employees, none of them seemed trained, and I was being quoted the wrong price by someone who couldn't work out simple maths, I take it my issues won't be resolved as it seems they don't respond to anyone's complaints, and as a side note if you employ new staff please make sure they are fully trained and they can work out what 2 x £50 is or better yet give them a calculator

£5000 deposit charge, instead of hold on card.

Avis Prestige is not part of Avis and operates separately from Avis Hire Car. Also Avis Prestige does not put a hold on your credit card for the deposit, they actually make a charge to your credit card for deposit. I was charged £5000 deposit. They held the deposit for 7-10 days before it was refunded. I've never been charged for a deposit. Hopefully they don't go bust during your hire because you won't get your money back!!!

Petrol tank never full

Petrol tank never full. This has happened to me 3x in a row seems like too often to be an oversight or coincidence. Must add up to a lot doing this with every car...

Never ever use these

Absoltely disgusting customer service. Used the Manchester airport branch. Got there and the guy went back 8 years on my driving license and said no. This was not stated anywhere under their terms and conditions. Guy was damn right rude and racist. Never ever would I use bigots like these

Booked a car and on different occasions…

Booked a car and on different occasions get cancelled. First booked an E class and went through and meet all requirements after I phoned them when they heard my accent they ask for more deposit money and even told me even if paid £30 which was an option to have a reduced deposit from £3000 to £1000 there still want £3000 I requested to find out if their policy allow that . I also requested them to highlight were it written in their policy but I never have a respond . I booked again online I ticked the box for options to pay £30 and it allowed me reduced deposit of £1000, however , the same guy again tell me they will not allow anything less of £3000.

This is open to different interpretations, I know my mates who booked the same car without to face the same treatment which makes me why there is discrimination to who and different requirements to different people

Nice cars, but too many little irritants

Nice cars, clean and new. Not cheap. I spent over £1k for a Mercedes E300 convertible for a long weekend. Mostly a positive experience but some avoidable irritations.
They didn’t have the car I originally wanted so I had to arrange an alternative via email with them, which was ok. They were responsive and friendly.
However, they wouldn’t let me collect from London City airport unelss I was flying in to that airport. A bit of a pointless and irritating bureaucratic rule - why does it matter to Avis Prestige if I’m flying in or just live near by? In practice I do live near by and it would have saved me some time on my journey if they had delivered there. They would still get to charge the airport surcharge, too. But they refused to let me collect from there. They delivered to my home, including delivery charge.

It was delivered roughly on time (about 25 mins late) but that was fine - they had warned me about this by phone the day before. The fuel wasn’t quite to the top of the tank but I was asked to refill to the top.

When returning the car, I was allowed to return it to LCY airport, oddly.

I later found out they charged me £18 for the London congestion charge. I don’t live in the congestion zone and I didn’t drive through it, but THEY drove through the congestion zone when delivering the car to me. It seems this was inevitable because I think they’re based inside the congestion zone, and they delivered the car from Kensington. I assume this includes some kind of admin fee on Avis’s part too. When I complained about being charged £18, they said it was my liability and it was mentioned in the T&Cs. They knew they would incur this charge ahead of time, and that they would pass this cost on to me, but the didn’t mention it when giving me a price, and didn’t do anything else to bring it to my attention. Really annoyed me.

They are responsive and polite, but as a company it’s odd they don’t realise that these little irritating things spoil the whole experience and make me much less likely to use them again. It sounds fussy but they charge a premium price so should provide a premium (or ‘Prestige’) service.

I usually use a company called The Out, who aren’t perfect but they offer a much nicer/smoother service, and fantastic Range Rover, Land Rover and Jaguar cars. I’ll have to think hard before I use Avis Prestige again unfortunately.

Update. They refunded me the £18 (bit said it will apply next time) and apologised for the fuel tank not being full.

Always get the same thing wrong!

I love these guys. I have hired a Mercedes V class from them time and time again - at least 2-3 times a year for the past 4 years. Everything is always amazing except when it comes to the pick-up. Never ever ever on time and expect me to be hanging about waiting for them! Not rocket science! Sort it out please! You are letting yourselves down!

Rented an F type 5.0 Jag for the weekend, all went well but unfortunately it broke down, this happens and is not my gripe, the problem is that it took approximately 17 hrs to get the car looked at and then towed away which means I basically only had use of the car for half the time I paid for, I then also had to be around during this time for the recovery services to do their thing.
As vehicles do break down and this is a prestige service I would of thought this would have been a much smoother process.
To add salt to the wound have have still been charged for the whole rental period despite verbal assurances I would be compensated for the time without use of the car and my time.

Very professional service

Very professional service. Like the standard Avis but with a more personal concierge service (i.e. a named person who will meet and greet you and have the car all ready).
