Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 913 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People are extremely frustrated with excessively long phone wait times, automated systems that constantly fail to connect, and unhelpful customer support when trying to resolve critical payment and account issues. Consumers frequently deal with delayed deposits, unexpected transaction holds, and sudden account closures without proper advance notice. Though some customers encountered severe banking obstacles, a few reviewers were happy with specific branch staff who provided professional, attentive, and welcoming assistance. These positive interactions successfully resolved urgent matters and made certain branch visits smooth and genuinely reassuring despite widespread systemic frustrations.

If I could I would put 0 stars

If I could I would put 0 stars. Closed down my account just 4 days after it opened without notifying me just to find out it's because I opened my account online instead of in person. Could've just sent an email to see a local branch but instead I have to wait for my paycheck to go back to my employer and to another direct deposit. NEVER BANK HERE

BANK OF AMERICA WILL NOT HELP YOU WITH FRAUD TRANSACTIONS

Western Union (WU) processed a fraudulent transaction on my account (backed/funded by my Bank of America (BOA) credit card) on 7/16/26. The total amount, including fees charged to my credit card, and paid by WU is $1058.30 USD.

The transfer was to someone I do not know in Gambia, West Africa. I have never sent money using WU to a foreign country. I have a years long history with WU sending the same amount, to the same person. This pattern has never deviated.

WU states it cannot help me in my fraud claim because I 'received the merchandise or services'. WU also states it has documents supporting their denial, including my alleged approval of the transfer, sender (supposedly me) communications and other documents. WU states it sent these documents to BOA, but I have not been able to se them.

How can WU (and BOA) not have basic safeguards in place to flag an obvious fraudulent transaction, and how can they try to get away by doing NOTHING to honor their promises of standing by their customers and fighting fraud on our behalf?

We would rate it -0 if we could

We would rate it -0 if we could. Been a customer with them for over 20 years for a mortgage. Tried to pay the mortgage off this week at one of their branches in Springfield, Mo. and what unfolded in our interactions with staff there became a joke. They wouldn’t accept cash, they wouldn’t accept a personal check, they wouldn’t try and make the interaction in anyway favorable to us. Long story short….we would never bank with them again. Also, dealing with their customer service line had us on hold for over 1 1/2 hours as well. No resolutions are easy with them…..they do nothing but take your money and not accommodate the customer at all. Poor poor system of helping their customers.

Zero customer service

if i could give it a 0 I would. Been a customer for over 20 years. Just to lazy and do not want to go thru the routine of changing banks due to bill paying setup. Anytime I have had an issue, I have had to wait for over 25 minutes on line-this after going thru a nauseating auto menu that won't directly get u to a representative. All issues make you go thru hoops to get the transaction rectified, even if it is the banks fault. This last fiasco was that we deposited a large check in the atm and the wife accidentally fat fingered the deposit amount. No knowing that she could have cancelled the transaction and gotten the check back from the machine, she hit the confirm button. She proceeded to go inside the bank with a copy of the receipt with the check image, along with the check stub from the deposit ck which was from another banking institution. The people in the bank said they couldn't do anything about it and to call a number that they provided. They couldn't even all the atm side and either retrieve the ck or get corporate to assist on line. We called the number and they told us that it would take 2-4 weeks to see the money! Total bullshit. Today I'm on hold for now 33 minutes!! Worst bank ever.

0 stars - horrible customer service

0 stars. I have been a Bank of America customer for more than 30 years, and the experience has steadily declined over that time. Their customer service has become extremely frustrating, and it feels nearly impossible to get even basic issues resolved. I have been bounced between branch staff, the website, the mobile app, and phone support, yet some problems have remained unresolved for years.

The phone system is especially unacceptable. It often fails to understand simple requests, sends customers in circles, and sometimes ends the call after telling you to try again later. For a bank that handles people’s personal and business finances, this level of service is not just inconvenient—it is unacceptable.

If I were not so deeply tied to Bank of America through both personal and business accounts, I would close everything immediately. I plan to move my accounts as soon as I reasonably can. Unless you have endless time to spend chasing unresolved account problems, I strongly recommend finding a better banking partner.

Bank of America is on top of it!

Sunday night I got a text from the BofA telling me that I had two suspicious charges at a deli in Chicago (I live in California) on my Visa and they were declining them. Then I got a call from the bank the next day and spoke with a great agent named Abby. They confirmed that my card had been compromised, cancelled it and today (two days later) I got a new card. Well done B of A!

Find another bank

I've been with boa since 2010 and they are the worst. First of all they do absolutely nothing to protect against fraud. You report it then they make you call and sit on the phone for hours. They also absolutely rob you with their cc interest rates. A loan shark has lower rates. I am looking for a new bank that actually cares even a little about their customers .

Calling customer service to speak with a live agent should not take an hour. This type of service is unacceptable. Mind you this happens every time i need to speak with an agent. Please respond to customers in a timely manner.

worst bank ever

OMG, WHAT A SCAM!!! I would give ZERO stars if possible. Im the exector of my brothers estate. I had to close out his account. I walked into a branch on 7/10 with correct papers. they said they turned it in to their people and that I had to come back after I get something in the mail. I came back 2 weeks later with forms I got from the mail. Once I confirmed the paper work, they did not issue the check to close the account, they said it had to be mailed from corporate. Another 2 weeks goes by and I have not heard a word. I call into their estate number and I told the guy I was frustrated. He then asked if I am lodging a complaint of how long it took and I said yes. He then immediaealy put me on hold for another 5 minutes to "log my complaint" without even talk to me. this is THEE WORST bank I have ever dealt with in my 40 years of banking. The resolve was to go through all of the paper work I had already gone through twice before OVER THE PHONE which he said would take 15-45 minutes and then the check would be processed in 5 business days or the check be mailed on 8/11 (which was 6 business days). INSANE amount of bureaucracy. I will NEVER bank here and tell all I know NOT to bank here.

If you lose your card you have to wait till the new card arrives and that takes several days, and usually in my experience the longest amount of time possible. This is a horrible way to inconvenience a customer and drive people away.

Beware second party reservations

I recently rented a room for two nights in the Omni Hotel Los Angeles. Two nights, one room for my daughter and I. There was no indication that I would be dealing with a 2nd party instead of the hotel directly. I never do this because I know that you can run into trouble with a 2nd party. When I checked out I was informed that I had reserved two rooms. I didn't - it was just my daughter and me. I was never even given a key for a second room. I filed a dispute twice and both times B of A said there wasn't enough to prove this. One of the women I talked to over the phone said they often got this problem with 2nd party reservations. It is the responsibility of the hotel to tell you are dealing with a 2nd party but I wasn't informed of that. Both disputes were turned down and I am now out $786.86.My reservation specifically says one room 2 guests.I have filed disputes a couple of times with B of A and always got my refund and never had any trouble. I've had this Visa card for many years and this is the first time this has happened. From the reviews I read it sounds like this happens a lot and I am a very unhappy customer along with a lot of other people it seems.

Absolutely shameful bank

Absolutely shameful bank, in so many ways. Predatory fees, onerous rules, shady practices. I have nothing good to say about them. The exist because we live in a fake meritocracy, if any of us did our jobs so poorly we would be fired, but somehow BOFA gets to carry on.
